amamyhsup:
We love books on
How Things Work from the library. Currently we have, "How do Flies Walk Upside Down?" and a Magic Schoolbus book about inside the human body. I have to generally go to the juvenile books instead of the little kids to find this kind of thing. A lot of the science behind it is over his head, but he is really interested so we go full speed ahead. He surprises us with how much he absorbs.

estrellemar:
52 Amazing Science Experiments by Lynn Gordon.

It is a deck of cards, each of which is a set of instructions for a very simple science experiment. Examples are making salt disappear and reappear, writing in invisible "ink" (lemon juice - then making it appear by ironing the paper), making a homemade rainbow, making a penny pop off the top of a bottle. Each card contains instructions and necessary supplies, and a brief explanation of what happened and why. It is designed for 4 to 8 year olds. It's really great!

"I highly recommend renting or buying the
Popular Mechanics movies for kids. Our boys loved them, and they have cool experiments some of which are appropriate for young kids, too." --babycosmosmom
