Do you believe in any other kind of a higher power?

No.
sarandon71, 6/27/05

Nope - but I'm agnostic and think its a possibility that some form of higher power exists - just can't fathom that that form would be a grandfatherly guy looking over everything we do in our lives, and then judging us if we don't believe he sent his only son down to save our souls - I especially dislike the christian focus on faith over good deeds (what kind of god values others bowing down to him over a life of good deeds?)--

I'm not sure. I'm in a place right now where I believe love is crucial, but my beliefs are always chaning.beatmom, 6/27/05

I'm really not sure.
DaniZ04, 6/27/05

I totally agree with another poster who said that they aren't sure. I lean towards the side of not, but I will not outright tell you there is no god because the simple fact is that "I do not know" but I don't believe in one..does that make sense?
AngieMom2Rnb, 6/27/05

I don't see what the existence of a higher being has to do with me or my daily life. In other words, would I act any differently if I knew conclusively that there was a god? Nope. I'd still treat others as I'd like to be treated.

I do,but in the sense that we are tiny little creatures of unimportance,on earth in a very big and vast universe -much like scientific pantheism.
silvermisfit13, 6/27/05

nope, nothing.

This self awareness makes me aware of the power I have to create or destroy.

Nope. Pretty hard-core atheist here. I think that the notion of some higher being from which all love and morality emanate cheapens the human experience, and renders love and morals meaningless. I think of it this way: being babycenter, I assume you have a young child. Its mothers day morning, and your child has presented you with two gifts. One is that necklace youve had your eye on at the jewelry store, and is exactly, perfectly what you wanted (obviously, really a gift from daddy, presented through the child). The other gift is the time honored macaroni necklace painstakingly hand painted and strung by your child at preschool (Mommy, I tied the knot myself!!), clumsily wrapped in tissue paper, with lots of tape, and carefully hidden under her stuffed bear until this morning. I know which of the gifts I find the most meaningful. The love and caring from my family and friends is all the more meaningful to me because I know that it comes from them, not from some higher entity through them. The incredible generosity and compassion that some people commit to are all the more meaningful to me because they have chosen to take those actions. To think that some other entity guided them cheapens their actions, and renders morality meaningless.---

No, I don't. I believe that it is impossible for us to know if there is a God or other higher being(s) [which makes me an agnostic] but I also do not have a belief in a God or gods [which makes me an atheist also].
c.geoffroyi, 6/27/05

...I am agnostic, not atheist.
KimberlyK4, 6/27/05

Higher beings, advanced life, some sort of creator of universes is possible. Anything that existed or happened before the universe began is possible. But I see no evidence of a god-like creature interacting with the universe as we know it. This may make it easier for you to understand: Do you believe in Zeus, Ra, Buddha or any number of the other gods that have been worshiped in the past? I just believe in one less god than you do.
nikiharris, 6/27/05

I waffle on whether I call myself atheist or agnostic. I like the bumper sticker: "Militant Agnostic - I don't know and you don't either." I don't think there is some all-knowing Big Daddy in the sky, or anything equivalent.jmw78, 6/27/05

No. I find science too compelling..
mjenifer, 6/27/05

Sometimes I do but with all the violence against women and children going on in the world, the wars that are started by men who use religion to justify violence and rape, it's hard to believe that a higher being would allow that to happen in the world. I'm somewhere between agnostic and atheist but more towards the atheist side because I think that the fear of God is often used to manipulate people to act in their own self-interest because they want so badly to go to heaven to be near God.

I do not believe it is likely at all that there is a higher being directly involved with the creation of life specifically on this planet. I believe it is likely that there are other beings in our universe, and beyond in the cosmos, that are more or less intelligent. Importance is all relative.
babycosmosmom, 6/28/05

Nope. I definitely identify myself as an atheist, but I don't completely rule it out. I don't think there is anything out there, but, if there were one god, why wouldn't there be many?
amamyhsup, 6/28/05

What do you mean by higher power? I dont believe there is any conscious entity controlling the entire universe. Is that what you mean?
