What's Mentoring

Mentor and mentees having fun
What is the BP Mentoring And Tutoring Programme?

It is a unique community service project for youths to become Mentors to younger peers. An older Mentor becomes someone special in a childs life over an agreed period of time as a big brother or sister. This Programme was launched in August 1995 and is the only nation-wide voluntary character building programme that recruits and matches tertiary students with school children.

What is our focus?

We aim to impart life-coping skills, social graces and self-respect to raise self-esteem, personal achievements and aspirations.

How we go about doing it:

We have two-hour weekly school based mentoring sessions over a period of at least nine months, during which semi-structured, learning-through-fun activities and games will be held. Personal sharing, mini celebrations and academic coaching are also carried out.

The overall result?

  • For our mentees: Enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem; improved attitude towards school life and higher personal aspirations.
  • For our mentors: Improved time management, planning and creative project management skills, personal and character development.
  • For both mentors and mentees: Unforgettable friendships.
