PASPARTU, The new servant, introduce himself
to
Fog. |
Chapter 2
Fog
and Paspartu start the trip……Who was the bank
robber?.........
Who
is Mr. Fix?...........
The time was
Paspartu
was ready, a bag
packed with clothes in his hand.
Fog
gave him another bag ,
and said:
" Keep it well,
there are 20
thousands pounds in
it !"
Paspartu
almost fainted. He
never had so
much money in his
hands !
They
went out, and
took a carriage with
two horses to
the train station.
On the way Paspartu told
Fog that he forgot to turn
off the gas
lamp in his room.

story, 1872, more
than hundred years ago,
there were already
trains and ships,
but no cars, no electric light,
and no telephones. And
of course, no
airplanes. |
"Never mind"
said Fog. "when we
come back, you will pay
for the gas for
the whole 80
days !"
In
the station they
met Fog's friends
from the club. They came
to say hello,
and wish him a
good trip.
Fog
told them that
he will get
his passport stamped
in every country on his
trip, so that they will be
sure he really
went around the
world.
Than
he gave the 20
pounds he gained in the
card game at the
club to a
poor woman, who was
begging for money.
He
told his friends:
"See
you in 80 days. I will be back
on
Paspartu
and Fog went
on the train. Fog
had in his
pocket a travel
guide, a small book
with all the schedules
of trains and
ships
for
the whole trip.
They were going by

week later, the
ship arrived to

fat guy. His name
was Mr. Fix,
and he was a
detective from the police

the bank."

Detective Fix Waiting for
Mr.
Fog on

Now,
we must explain:
The

the ship, Fog
was looking now in
his note-book, which looked
like a calendar
with the details of the
trip. For this day it was:

He
looked at his
watch. The time was exactly
Paspartu
took the Passports, and went
to get them
stamped by the
British
Consul. On the
pier, Fix was waiting.
He asked Paspartu to show him
the passports, and he
looked at the
photos.
"Who
is this ?" He asked.
"This is the
passport of Mr. Fog, my
master", Replied Paspartu.
The person in the photo
looked well dressed, rich, tall, a real
gentleman ! And he also
had a well-cut
beard !
Fix asked: "Where are you going? What is
the purpose of
your trip ?"
Paspartu
told Fix all
about the trip around the world. He said
that they left in
a hurry, took just
few clothes, and a bag
full with lot of
money!
Fix
was almost sure now that
he found the thief.
He told Paspartu that
Fog must come
himself to the British
Consul, and when
Paspartu went to
call Fog, he
ran to the Consul's
office himself.
On the way he stopped in the post-office and sent this cable to

Found the bank robber
STOP His name is Fileas
Fog STOP
He
carries all money with him
STOP Please send an
arrest-order
immediately STOP
Detective Fix
Breathless he
entered the office
and said to
the Consul:
-- "I am
sure I found
the thief. His
name is Mr. Fog. In
few minutes he will be here. Please
hold him until
I will get
from
--"How can you be
so sure?" Asked the consul.
--"Well, he looks exactly like
the thief. He left
London in a
hurry, and he
carries with him lot
of money ! and
he also invented a stupid
story about a
trip around the
world!"
--"How do you
know all this?"
--"Well, don’t
forget I am
a detective !" Answered
Fix. "I just asked
his stupid servant,
and he told
everything !"
The
consul told Fix
that he cannot hold Fog
without the arrest-order. When
Fog and Paspartu
arrived he stamped the
passport, and wished them a good
trip.
Fix
knew that the ship, with Fog
and Paspartu on
it, is going
to leave soon
on it's way
from Egypt to
Bombay in India. He
knew that
Cannot
hold Fog in
Leaving with
him to Bombay
STOP
Send the arrest order to
Detective Fix
Than he
took his bag
from his hotel,
bought a ticket for the
ship, and went to
the harbor to
join Fog and
Paspartu on the
trip
from
After
Fog left London,
the papers printed
the story about
his trip.
Everybody
got very excited.
Some people said
he will be
back on time, and
his friends will have to pay him
the bet, others
said that this
trip is impossible.
They said
that a storm
at sea can
delay a ship for
many days,
that
in India the
trains may break
down on the
middle of road,
and
that in America
Indians may attack
the train, and
even take Fog
and Paspartu as
prisoners !
The
people started to bet with
each other if Fog will
make it or
not.
Most
of them liked
the idea of the
trip, and liked Fog,
and thought he is brave,
and bet for
Fog's success.
Than,
the cable from
Mr. Fix arrived
to the
The
next day, the
papers said that
Fog is the
gentleman who robbed
the bank!
Nobody

Now,
everybody in

(that was the name
of the ship),
Fog had a
very pleasant time.
The sea was calm,
the food was
good, he even
found a friend
who liked to
play cards with
him. This friend
was an officer
of the British
army, on his
way to
Paspartu
also enjoyed the
trip. He was
glad to meet
Mr. Fix on the
ship, and answered
all his questions
about Fog.
The
wind was good.
The ship went
very fast. They
went from Suez
south, through the
Red-Sea, and than made a short
stop in Aden, In
Yemen. There they
loaded more coal,
for the ship engines.
