Past NU Alumni Events in Nashville
The Nashville NU Alumni Club was resurrected in 2001. Since that time, we have held the following events:
- A group of 30 alumni gathered on March 6, 2004 for a guided tour of the current exhibition at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts: From El Greco to Picasso, European Masterworks from the Phillips Collection. Prior to the tour, Martin Terrien, Interim Executive Director of the Frist Center and a Kellogg alumnus, joined us in the Frist Center auditorium for an informal discussion on insights to the exhibit, as well as how and why the Frist Center was selected to host this exhibition.
- A presentation entitled"Rules of the Road for Individual Investors" featuring fellow NU Alumnus Rick Carlson (KSM95) discussed strategies for successful investing on Thurs. January 29 at the Green Hills Public Library.
- We held a New Student Party to welcome the class of 2007 on July 22, 2003. A number of the new students and their parents were welcomed into the NU community by current students and alumni.
- A faculty speaker from Northwestern, Dr. Phyllis Zee, came on Monday, February 24, 2003 at the Vanderbilt University Club. Dr. Zee did an excellent job of explaining the impacts of circadian rhythm on our lives to the alumni (classes of 1947 through 2001!) who attended.
- A welcome party for the NU incoming class of 2006 was held on September 8 from 2 pm until 4 pm. Current students and alumni were available to answer any and all questions that the class of '06 and their parents had.
- Area alumni ranging from the class of '47 to '01 came together for a potluck picnic at Dragon Park on May 18, 2002. Although the weather was reminiscent of our times in Evanston, approximately 20 area alumni and their families enjoyed the opportunity to renew old ties to NU and make new friends.
- Area young alumni came together on April 6, 2002 to enjoy a selection of fine wines. This small, intimate gathering was hosted by Paul ('00) and Carrie ('00) VonHoff and provided a great way to get to know fellow alumni in the area.
-
Volunteers Conducted Admissions Interviews
Each year, the Northwestern Alumni Admissions Council (AAC) in
Nashville sets up a day long timeslot at a central location for admissions interviews conducted by alumni volunteers. This is our second year of our involvement with the AAC. Each year we have added to the number of interviewers from our club. It is truly amazing to meet the applicants and experience first hand the high quality young people NU is attracting.
- For the past two years, the group has gathered at area sports bars for every televised football game. This year, the Cats were invited to the Motor City Bowl! Go Cats!
Join us next year at Cross Corner Sports Bar and Grill to cheer the Cats to victory!
(Cross Corner is located at 330 Franklin Road in Brentwood. Their number is (615) 370-0870. Take I-65 to exit number 74B toward BRENTWOOD. Turn LEFT onto FRANKLIN PIKE/ TN-6/ US-31. Cross Corner is in the Kroger/Office Max shopping complex on the left.)
- Our 2001 New Student Party was a success!
Area students from the class of 2005 had their first official welcome to the NU community. Current students and area alumni and their families answered any and all questions regarding life at NU and beyond.
