The Nuclear Family
The nuclear family is a kin group consisting of a married couple and their unmarried children.  This kin group is widespread in human societies.  However, a nuclear family only lasts as long as the parents and children remain together.  Most people belong to at least two nuclear families in their lives the family of orientation, the family in which one is born and grows up in, and the family of procreation, formed when one marries and has children.
