At least 10 people, including the
driver of Jamaat-e-Islami office, were injured when supporters of Islamic
Constitutional Movement (ICM) launched an attack on the musallis' near
the North Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque yesterday.
According to witnesses, the ICM
supporters were in a procession protesting against the Jamaat for an alleged
attempt on life of the ICM chief Maulana Fazlul Karim, Pir of Charmonai, at
Sherpur in Bogra on June 7.
The processionists attacked the musallis'
when they were coming out of the mosque after offering the Asr' prayers
yesterday.
The attackers chanted slogans
like "Ekatturer Razakar, Ei Muhurte Bangla Chhar" during the
incident, witnesses said, adding that at least 10 people were injured in the
attack.
Later, the situation was brought
under control after the intervention of police. None was arrested in connection
with the incident, police said.
Of the injured, Nur-e-Alam
Siddiki (35), driver of the Jamaat-e-Islami office, and Golam Rasul were
undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), hospital
sources said.
