Gene Stallings got his start as a football player at Texas A&M for Coach Paul W. "Bear" Bryant. He played from 1954-57,I believe. He then moved over to Alabama when Coach Bryant became the head football coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 1958. In 1965 Coach Stallings went back to Texas A&M to be the head coach at his alma mater. After a few years there he went to be an assistant under Coach Tom Landry for fourteen seasons before becoming the St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinal head coach. Then in 1990 he was named head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide and over seven seasons compiled a 70-16-1, record with a SEC and National Championship in 1992. He now lives back in Paris, Texas with his wife Ruth Ann, and son John Mark.
(Update)I learned recently that John Mark went to be with the Lord on August 2nd of this year(2008)Keep Coach, his wife Ruth Anne, and the rest of the family in your prayers.
