This is a fun little car that I decided to buy after months of reading up on them
in various magazines and on various web sites. MiniWorld Mag was one good source,
another was www.MiniMania.com. Plus they're quite rare in the U.S., so they'll be
less chance of seeing one in a mall parking lot hehe... but I do see some in and
around the San Francisco area, so I know there's others out there :-p
My little mini's a 1962 MK1 body in a British Green body color, white roof and
white bonnet striping. It's also got the Webasto English sunroof, more like a sliding
convertable :-) The body was repainted around 1995/1996; deseamed, stripped, painted
from what the previous owner told me.
It's got a fresh carpet, new moldings, trim, and other parts needing a fresh look
after showing its age.
Power in my mini's awesome. For such a demure car, it's got quite a kick. A 1360cc
engine helps keep me moving along the freeway, acceleration is not a problem here.
Powered through a 4-speed synchro, spax shocks, and 12" mags, helps keep me grounded
and on the road.
Some future upgrades: Get the sliding windows to work properly, these windows seem
to stick and takes a bit of effort to open/close, ahhh, I've got the sunroof to give
me a lot of fresh air :-) Maybe eventually I'll go for a full bolt-on roll cage and
if I'm not poor by then, then some racing seats and harnesses. The wheel arches could
be replaced with better looking ones, but oh well.
This is my first Mini, it took quite a bit of adjusting, it's no modern car, can't
jump into it and expect to take off ... just need to spend some time warming her up
and then she'll be ready for some fun ;-)
If you've never been in one, or driven one, it's a real blast. It's quite roomy
inside, at least for the front passenger, not much leg room for the back. And unless
you're a rather large person or tall person, you'll fit nicely. I've already taken a
couple of co-workers around since they've never been in one. Driving it is fun, a bit
stiff due to the suspension/wheel combo, but ahhh... take it like a race car :-D No
A/C, no radio, no power steering or anything of the luxurious sorts, after all, we're
talking 1962. The dash guages all works, from the speedo and tach to the water, fuel,
and oil guages.
