A "Rose" By Any Other Name
Names. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. "Rose." Now, that's a good name. Have you ever wondered how CD's pick their names? I have. Most of us don't have the luxury of "picking;" our names. They were given to us at birth and the best we can do is modifying it to some form of nickname.
So, just how do CD's select their names? Have you ever met one named Bertha? Agnes? Mabel? Hildegard? Somehow those "roses" are just not as sweet. There are mental images we have to go with names. The mental image most CD's have of themself is not the image conjured up by these names.
However, there are names that bring about very attractive and appealing images of womanhood that are still not commonly used. Have you known of any Sami's? Billi's? Jerri's? These are all extremely beguiling images, but alas, the super sensitivity of most CD's will not allow for names that are derived from masculine forms of a name.
What would you name yourself if YOU could? Hum. Interesting question. At my less than 5'5" frame, I would like a name that subliminally indicates height. Even better if that height was accompanied with "willowy." Let's add a few more qualities that would look good on me. How about blonde? And maybe 28 years old? I think an ideal name would be "Tawny."It even sounds like she would have soft, wide eyes! Oh yes, I like Tawny already!
But does Tawny go with my last name? If I am going to create an image, I want the whole thing to work. I have known Amber Brown's and Kelly Green's. Someone was thinking with those! A gal whose last name was Leer was named Chrysta Chanda. (Say that one out loud!) A last name of Jones doesn't get it. Something exotic, deeply intense, and revealing. How about Tawny Dinarius? From the Greek, it is exotic and foreign sounding. And speaks of money! Tall, willowy, blonde, young, foreign and rich. I think I like it.
Now, I can't change my name to Tawny Dinarius, but continuing the thought, what if we, GW's, were to change our name to masculine names to go with our CD? Something that indicates strength, self-assuredness, power. Names from the media might include choices of Hoss, Big Joe, and Harry. (Well, I guess Harry is not necessarily one that I would particularly select.) I sure can see myself as Duke, but definitely not Prince.
While this is written in jest, we all know that the issues Tri-ESS addresses are serious, legitimate, and worthy of earnest self analysis. However, is there nothing in life, regardless of how serious, that cannot be enhanced if we can only learn to laugh with it and see the humor. Humor offers us a safe way to look at things that might otherwise appear threatening. If we can learn to laugh at ourselves, and see the humor that presents itself, we will all be healthier, happier individuals. Humor allows us to have a perspective that freshens and not only enlightens, but lightens the burdens we bear. And a smile is the most attractive article of clothing anyone can wear! It hides wrinkles, takes off years, and makes us beautiful.
On second thought, I think you can just call me Tangerine!
