| NUIKARS GERTAK SANGGUL- PULAU BETONG RIDE ( Sunday May 20, 2001) It was raining that morning and I thought the ride was cancelled. But receiving calls from Lawlee and Andy prompted me to hop on my trusted Giant and rode out to meet them. The ride attendance was good. The riders were, Richard, Andy, Lawlee, Richie, Raymond, Stefanie and yours truly. We all grouped at Andy�s Dad�s. Breakfast was on Andy (or his Dad?) at his Dad�s kedai kopi. FYI, we rode from our houses to Andy�s and then rode to Gertak Sanggul. We started at the trail head (uphill climb by the sea) and along the climb, we can hear the waves breaking on the shore and glimpse of the sea. We reached the old abandoned golf course and waited for the I-drive couple. It was a mixture of cemented trail and dirt track. We followed the route to Pulau Betong where I saw some nice scenery, which I did not see on my first ride when I had the fall and hurt my ribs. Richard led the way and we had quite a number of stops as we had to wait for our only rose in the group. Every time she reached us, she would be mumbling and cursing us under her breath for making her join the tough ride. On this ride, Mrs I-drive (turtle) had two falls. One fall before we reached the top and other before we reached end of the trail. I saw that she had a blue-black shin. However, she did follow our advices to throw the bike rather that get flung with the bike. Richie did well on this ride. Raymond was the ever-loving husband who accompanied Stef all the way. Very romantic oooo� I can see that Lawlee is developing into a major rider and has improved tremendously. We reached a part where we saw some rubber things that looked like chicken eggs and decided to put up a mock nest and lay all the eggs in the nest. Stef was fascinated to think that the eggs were there naturally. After reaching Pulau Betong, it was R&R at the Pulau Betong Coffee shop. We pushed back via the Balik Pulau Road and stopped to wait for the I-drive couple at the durian stall. I was tempted to garb some durian. I can see that Richard was very tempted as well. We reached home close to 1pm. And I would say that the ride was very enjoyable. Kudos to Stef and Richie for completing the ride. All in all, we clocked 52km of ride. This I know as I had my new Cateye Tomo XC with me�..baru beli��.. |
