The Ashbourne cup is based on the style of the McCarthy All Ireland Hurling Cup a silver, four handled, eight inches high, Celtic designed cup. The ebony base, now standing at three feet high contains the names of every player, inscribed in Irish who ever had the honour of winning an Ashbourne medal. In 2000, the cup was presented to the GAA museum and was replaced by the Milennium Cup an exact replica. The base of this new trophy has extra space for the names of future winners. |
