On Wednesday the 21st of November, in conditions ideal for camogie at Dangan, The NUI, Galway senior camogie team took on near neighbours Athlone IT in the fourth match of the league campaign. Lourda Kavanagh opened the scoring with a point from play after just two minutes. A fine solo run from Lizzy Glennon resulted in another point. Another pointed free from Kavanagh along with good points from Maria Cribben and Claire Mullen saw NUIG led at half time by 0:07 to 0:05.
The second half saw Athlone start strongly with two long range frees from Galway senior player Therese Maher. However, NUIG responded well to the challenge with pointed frees from Kavanagh and a second point from Lizzy Glennon. Athlone battled hard, but to no avail, and Emer Murphys point capped a deserved win for NUIG.
