(updated: 10/31/08)

1. Joining DNPC
A. Joining the contest will be limited to 30 participants.

B. Priority will be based on three primary factors :

  • 1. Number of predictions made in previous years
  • 2. Interest shown this year
  • 3. Dependibility on making consistent predictions
  • 4. How frequent you post on the boards

C. A first-come, first serve system may be used to fill up remaining spots.

D. After all 30 spots have been filled, divisions and conferences will be created at random (5 teams per division):

  • 2 Conferences : Western and Eastern
  • 6 Divisions : Pacific, Northwest, & Southwest (Western Conference); Southeast, Central, & Atlantic (Eastern Conference)

E. Passwords : Password are required to login and make predictions. Before the season starts, choose a password and email it to
[email protected]. Be sure to include your screename and use the subject line "DNPC 10 Password".

2. Schedules
A. Schedules will be 40 games long for each participant, with the breakdowns as follows :

B. Each participant will NOT predict in every Nugget game. During every Nugget game, there will be a number of predicting matchups (averages 10 DNPC matchups per Nuggets game), as determined by the pre-made schedule. However, during a few different Nugget games everyone will be picking (starting with the season opener). You can see which games you are scheduled for on the matchups page and also on your login page (you will only have the option to make picks for your games).

C. Schedules will run from the season opener (10/31 at Utah Jazz) through game #60 (3/1 at Indiana Pacers) for the Nuggets giving each participant about 3 games (on average) to predict per week. You may have some weeks without any predictions and some weeks with as many as 4 or 5 predictions.

3. Making Predictions
A. To make a prediction, go to the
DNPC10 page, login, and scroll down to the game(s) youd like to make a prediction for.

B. Once you decide what your prediction is, in the space next to that particular game, enter your pick. If you think Denver will win, just put the margin of victory in the box (e.g. if you think Denver will win by 6, type only 6). If you think Denver will lose, put the margin of loss in the box, but make it negative (e.g. if you think Denver will lose by 3, put only -3 in the box). After you are done, be sure to submit your picks by pressing the button at the top or bottom of the page.

C. You may make your picks as far in advance as you like and up to the time of tipoff for each specific game. If you know you will not be able to make certain picks ahead of time, check your schedule and make picks in advance to avoid trouble.

D. Remember not to mention your score to anyone else, to avoid giving your opponent an advantage.

E. You may change your picks as many times as you would like until the tipoff of each game. If you do, be sure to chose the appropriate box on the predictions page.

F. After making a pick, be sure to check the schedule for your next matchup to avoid missing a prediction.

G. If, at any time the server isn't working on the page, and you need to make a prediction, you can email the pick to [email protected]. In the body of the email message include:

  • Screenname
  • Date of Game
  • Opponent
  • Winner
  • Margin

Please make sure each section is labeled clearly in the email and make it easy and quick to read and please only do this if completely necessary. You may make multiple picks per email.

4. Scoring
A. Scoring : Scoring is the same this year. First, the difference is taken from the actual score and your predicted score. Second, if you picked the wrong winning team, 5 points are added to the difference. Lastly, that final number is subtracted from 100. Higher scores win. An example...

B. Like last year, you only go up against your opposing participant and either get a win, loss, or tie for each game you are scheduled for.
C. Correct picks (chosing the right winner regardless of margin) will be counted. They will be used for tie breakers (see 5-C).

5. Regular Season
A. The games regular season runs from the first Nuggets game (10/31 at Utah Jazz) through the 60th game (3/1 at Indiana Pacers).

B. This leaves the last 22 games for the playoffs (see section 6).

C. The regular season standings are based on your matchup results.

6. Playoffs
A. Playoffs will begin with the 61st Nuggets game (3/3 at Detroit) and lasts until the rest of the season (final 22 regular season games).

B. The best 8 records in each conference will make the playoffs (based on games above .500; e.g. a record of 20-17-3 will be considered the same as 21-18-1). The winners of the divisions automatically get the top three seeds. Seeds #4-8 are then filled in with the next 5 best records.

C. If you do make the playoffs you will be required to predict on time for all games that you are in. Picks are made in the same fashion and with the same rules as the regular season.

D. The 8 participants in each conference are broken into a bracket in the first round:

E. In case of ties, tie breakers will be used in order of :
  • 1) Correct picks
  • 2) Overall higher Head-to-Head scores (sum of all games played vs each other)
  • 3) Higher final power ranking (see section 7-C)

F. Playoffs will consist of 4 rounds (1st round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, finals). The first three rounds will be a best-of-5 series, while the finals will be a best-of-7.

G. The team with the better record gets 'home court' (see section 6-H) for rounds #1-3 regardless of their postseason seed (format: HHAAH). In the finals, homecourt only applies to tied scores (no bonus points given) and goes in the order HHAAHAH (the person with the better regular season record is the "home team.")

H. Homecourt : Homecourt consists of having one point added to your score and getting credit for the win in case of ties. The road team can 'steal' a win automatically by making a perfect pick, granted the home team did not make the same pick (if during any game, both people make the exact same pick, the "home team" will get the win, regardless of the outcome of the Nuggets game).

I. Winning 3 games (best of 5) advances you to the next round through the first 3 playoff rounds and the overall champion is the one who wins 4 games in the finals (best of 7).

J. Note : the playoffs usually start 1 to 2 days after the regular sesaon ends, so be sure to stay aware of the schedule to see if you make the playoffs. If you've already clinched in advance, it might be a good idea to make your pick a little earlier to be sure.

7. Other Notes
A. If you join, you must be committed to participate. Missing games you are scheduled for is highly discouraged.

B. Late in the season, if you are eliminated from playoff contention, please continue to make your picks to the best of your ability as they will have an affect on others standings and chances.

C. Power rankings are based on 5 different statistics: Pick percentage, Correct Pick percentage, Win Percentage, Average Points per Pick, and Perfect Picks. D. Please read the FAQ section if you have any questions. If that doesnt help, email me at [email protected]
