�I was beginning to think you weren�t coming,� she said.
�Now why would I lie to you?� he asked kissing her.
�Sit down!� David said warmly motioning to a chair next to him.
He did and Crystal sat down next to him.
�So I�m guessing you got your wall finished?� she asked.
�Yeah. All I have to do now is get it painted.�
Crystal furrowed her brow when she picked up on the depression in his voice.
�Are you ok?�
He sighed.
�No. I found out this morning that JC�s been sleeping with my ex.�
Her mouth dropped open.
�Are you serious?� she asked dumbfounded.
�Yeah. I tried to kill him this morning but Lance came to save the day. I really hate those bastards.�
�You have every right to,� Margaret said nonchalantly.
�So, uh, were you jealous?� Crystal asked.
�No. I�m just pissed that JC would do that to me.� She smiled but didn�t seem convinced. �Ok, look at it this way: your best friend sleeps with your ex-boyfriend, even though you hate him.�
�Oh, ok. I would have killed him,� she said.
�Exactly. So, how have things been since I left?�
�You�ve only been gone a day,� Kandi said.
�Well, you never know when something exciting is going to happen.�
David smiled. �Nothing exciting happens when you�re not here,� he joked.
�I know that. I was just wondering if there was a fluke.�
�They put up a plaque with Kyle on it in the main hallway,� Kandi said quietly.
�Can you believe they had the nerve to do that shit? God, they make me madder every day,� Margaret said.
�They act like it�s not their fault that he died,� David said spooning soup into his mouth.
Kandi lowered her head and spoke up so softly that she was barely heard. �I saw him last night.�
�What?� Margaret and David said at the same time.
�I saw him when I was coming back to my room from the restroom. He was standing in front of his door and looking up as if he could see through it. He was looking at the light fixture on the ceiling.� Everyone merely stared at her. �I�m telling the truth. If you don�t want to believe me it�s your own loss.�
�We�re not saying that we don�t believe you. That�s just�� David trailed off.
�Bizarre,� Crystal said.
�What time did you see him?� Margaret asked.
�It was around two in the morning.�
Chills went through Chris.
�But, that was around when he died,� Crystal gasped.
�I know.�
David slapped his hand on the table.
�S�ance!�
�Have you lost your mind? I don�t want to mess with that shit,� Margaret said.
�Oh come on, it�s just Kyle. He wouldn�t possess us and make us go on a satanic killing spree.�
�Think about who you�re talking about, David,� she said.
�Hmm� I still want to do it. I want to know if he took his medicine. Because if he did then they have to stop prescribing it.�
�And when are you planning on doing this?� Crystal asked.
He looked at his watch.
�Chris, when do you have to be out of here?�
�Bye nine.�
�Well, then at seven. I want you to be here for this,� David said to him.
Chris and Crystal showed up at David�s door at seven o clock. He did their secret knock and the door slowly opened.
�Welcome to the doorway to the next realm,� he said dreamily.
�Knock it off David,� Margaret said throwing a pillow at him.
�Hey! No throwing things at the medium. Please, enter,� he said opening the door the rest of the way.
The walked in to see the room completely lit by candles.
�How did you convince them to let have all this fire in your room?� Chris asked sitting down on a pillow on the floor.
David smiled mischievously.
�Since when do I ever ask permission to do anything?�
�They�re so going to kick your ass when you set the entire building on fire,� Crystal said sitting down next to Chris.
David smiled and opened a drawer, taking out an ouiji board.
�Can I ask you a question?� Margaret asked.
�Shoot,� David said.
�Why in the hell did you bring an ouiji board here?�
�You have to be prepared! And besides, it�s my granddaughter�s and I don�t want her messing around with this kind of stuff.�
�But it�s ok for you?�
�Yes.�
Kandi emerged from the dark corner of the room and took a seat on one of the pillows. Ever since Kyle�s death she had barely said two sentences. Everyone was beginning to worry. Even the psychologist who had a drug for everything and never worried was worried about her.
David threw the board into the middle of the pillow circle and took a seat. Margaret followed suit and sat down on the one empty pillow.
�Damnit, why do I have to sit on the lumpy one?� she asked shifting uncomfortably.
�You should have sat down sooner. Now, everyone join hands and close your eyes,� David said. Rather reluctantly everyone did so and David coughed loudly. �Ok. We would like to speak with the deceased Kyle Grower. Please, Kyle, if you can hear us, please give us a sign!� Silence. �A sign to let us know that you are with us!� Nothing. David opened his eyes and looked around the room expectantly. �Please Kyle, we need to speak to you.� After another moment of waiting David dropped his hands. �Damnit!�
�Were you actually expecting this to work?� Margaret said.
�Yes, I-� he was cut off when all the candles in the room blew out.
�Oh shit,� Crystal said grabbing Chris. He smiled and wrapped his arms around her.
The two candles in the circle burst into flames and the ouiji board became visible. The pointer began moving on its own and everyone scooted back slightly. David got out a piece of paper and wrote down what it was spelling out.
�What do you want? I�m trying to enjoy the afterlife.�
�Wow,� David whispered excitedly. �What�s it like?�
�Better than life.�
�Um, we need to know if you were on your medication when you died.�
�You saw me. Of course I was.�
�Then why did you do it? It should have made you better.�
�I was still dying on the inside. I couldn�t take it anymore.�

�I guess. I miss you though, Kandi.�
Everyone turned and looked at her. She smiled innocently and blushed.
�Oh come on. If you were stuck here you�d want some action too.�

�Crystal and Chris are together,� Margaret said.

Everyone turned and looked at them and Crystal kissed him.

There was a knock on the door.
�Mr. Carmichael, I smell smoke! Open the door! I swear if you�re in there smoking marijuana you will all be sent to different institutions!� Dr. Lauren yelled.
�Do you want me to fuck with her?�
�Do it,� David said.
The door flew open and a wind blew, nearly knocking Dr. Lauren over. Everyone just looked up and smiled at her. The look on her face was priceless. She was absolutely terrified. When Kyle materialized in front of her she ran down the hallway screaming. David laughed until he fell over. Kyle turned around and smiled one more time before he disappeared.
