Monday 4th December
It is early and Zoe cannot cope with the cold weather. Mark is feeling smug about not having to work and buys a paper. He clarifies that Zoe has banked the takings from last week - unfortunately she forgot. As Eddie shows her the 1500 to bank, Nick watches from the window and when Zoe goes for the teas, Nick steals the Stall's cash box. When Zoe looks for the box, she notices it has gone. "Don't worry. I'll sort it out," says Eddie.
Tuesday 5th December
It is the day of the calendar shoot and the Slater girls are planning on gate-crashing the shoot. Kat wants to see Steve, Zoe is interested in Jamie and Little Mo is dragged along. Lynne on the other hand, will not let Garry participate. "Garry, you're not flashing your bits around Walford. I mean it!" she tells him. "Yes oh masterful one," he replies, "Typical isn't it. There's me offering my services for the benefit of the ladies and she puts a kibosh on it." When Lynne isn't around, he puts his name down anyway. Meanwhile, on the stall, Eddie tells Zoe that Mark has already banked the takings to reassure her. Unfortunately, the takings are still in a bucket under the sink in the Fowlers house, where Ashley tried and failed to break in and retrieve it.
When it is time for the actual shoot, the first arrivals are the Slater girls, all ready to see the show. But no men have arrived - in fact they are all hiding. The only man that eventually turns up is Garry. When Mel tries to turf the girls out, Garry says, "Let them stay. I don't mind an audience." { clip } When Steve finally plucks up the courage to go, he is too late. "You're off the hook," Mel says, "Garry's done all twelve months, and if there was a thirteenth, he'd be up for that as well.". When Lynne sees him, she is unhappy with him. "Don't pretend you did it for me Garry. It's just one big ego trip with you." When Maureen asks Billy about the shoot, she ends up comparing him to Trevor. "He's not like you," she says. "A bit old fashioned, is he?" asks Billy. "Yeah, in some ways." replies Little Mo, hesitantly. Thursday 7th December
On the stall, Zoe is discussing Dot's court case with Eddie. "I know dot's a bit mad and all that, but I wouldn't want to be in her shoes right now. I nearly had kittens when I thought we lost the takings." Eddie had told Zoe that Mark had banked the takings, even though Nick Cotton has stolen them. "It don't matter now. Marks banked the takings. It's not as if we nicked it or otherwise Dot wouldn't be the only one up in court today, would she?" Monday 11th December
As Barry and Roy set up their minicab business, Charlie makes fun of their cars. "Call those jalopies cabs?" he laughs. Garry moves in with Mark, which make Lynne happy. She wants him close! Garry on the other hand is looking forward to some freedom. Janine suggests a house warming party, which Mark thinks is a great idea, although Lynne isn't convinced. In the pub, Mel and Steve are getting closer, which annoys Kat, but Little Mo thinks it is romantic.
Garry and Mark are looking forward to their party. "I got you down as the original party animal" "Why? "What with you being HIV, well you're a long time dead, aren't you?" says Garry, "Or is that the wrong thing to say?" Mark smiles. "You're a breath of fresh air, Garry." At the party the girls are encouraging Billy and Maureen to dance together. But Little Mo is looking forward to her Trevor coming home. "I hope you're going to wear something raunchy," says Kat. "The way to a mans heart isn't only through his stomach, is it Billy?" The party goes off in true Eastenders style, with Lisa flirting with Mark, which winds Phil up, who has a go at Mark, Ian tries to stick up for Mark but just ends up losing his temper and Robbie has a go at Sonia and is punched by Jamie. "I think I'm going to like living round here," says Garry. Tuesday 12 December
In the morning, Maureen is looking forward to seeing Trevor again, and her sisters take the mickey out of her - again. Kat once again suggests that she should 'glam' herself up for him. Billy and Kat drag her round the West End to find something nice for her to wear. In the pub, Maureen tells Billy that she sees him as the brother she never had. Back at home, Maureen wears the dress she bought, and Charlie is very proud of her, even though Maureen is still unsure. Charlie then takes her to see her husband Later that night, Little Mo returns, covered in bruises.
Thursday 14th December
The Queen Vic Calendar has arrived, showing Garry in all his glory. Kat buys a copy. At the Slaters house, Maureen is trying to cover her bruises. Kat suggests she get a good divorce lawyer, but Maureen is insistent that Trevor didn't do it; it was an accident! In the cafe, Kat is showing Lynne the calendar when Billy asks after Little Mo. They tell him that she is still with them. "Last time I spoke to her," he says. "She couldn't wait to get back to her little flat and Trevor." Back at the Slaters, Maureen is trying to get in touch with Trevor. She leaves a message on the answer-phone. "Trevor, it's me. If you're there, please pick up the phone. I wanted to say, I'm never going to wear that outfit again if it upsets you that much. And I know you didn't mean it but you really hurt me, and it's been really difficult trying to explain things away here. So when you get in and get this message, will you give us a call." At that moment, Kat takes the phone away - she has been listening in. "Still say it weren't Trevor that done that to you?" she asks. Kat tells Charlie and Lynne what she heard.
Mo tries to give Maureen some advice. "A man treats you like that, he don't respect you. You're better off well out of it." When Maureen tells her to leave her alone, she replies, "OK. You go back to him. And he will do it again Mo. He will. They always do. And when you come round here again, I will say to you, 'you made your bed, you lie on it' shall I? You stupid little cow, we're only trying to help you." Billy comes round to see Maureen so Mo goes to the pub to see the others. They decide to pat Trevor a visit. Maureen described what happened to Billy. "Sometimes you break my heart, d'you know that Mo." "Why?" "Because sometimes you're just like a little kid. You don't understand how horrible this world can be." "It don't have to be that way do it?" "But it is. There's people out there capable of doing anything. Who given the right money, would cut their own mothers throat without thinking twice." "My Trevor's not like that." "I weren't thinking of him."
The Slater family, en-masse, go to sort Trevor out. When they return, they tell Billy that Trevor has smashed the flat to pieces, ruined Maureen's clothes and scarpered. Billy is furious that the others aren't going to do anything. "C'mon," he yells. "You've got to do something!" Monday 18 December
Mo buys some stolen decorations from the thieves, which she tries to sell to the residents of the Square, including Janine in the cafe. When Lynne finds out, she gets annoyed and returns them to her, telling her not to try it again. Maureen is still pining over Trevor. Billy tries to make her see sense, but when a big bunch of flowers comes for her, she assumes that they are from Trevor, and he wants to make up. Mo gives Billy her blessing, "you're a good lad," she tells him. Zoe has trouble with a customer complaining on the stall and Mark sacks her. Eddie tells her to wait for him to calm down and then go and talk to him. Tuesday 19th December
Zoe is back on the stall and Mo has asked her to try and sell some of her dodgy decorations. When she has trouble, Mo dresses up in Robbie's cleaners gear and gets rid of the opposition by telling them the market inspector is on his way. "He's a right sod," she tells them.
Maureen is contacted by Trevor, and they start to make up. Mo and Kat are appalled. "Your mother will be turning around in her grave," Mo says. "If it were down to me you would be filing for divorce, not running back to the little Git!" Kerry convinces Zoe to go on holiday with her.
Thursday 21st December
Maureen is getting ready to go back to Trevor. She reminisces about Christmas past, and dreams about the sort of married life she wants. Charlie agrees to drive her there. "If Trevor even looks at you wrong, you come back home," he tells her. Billy decides to sort Trevor out himself, after a few subtle hints from Mo. Billy arranges a meeting with a pal called Mouse. Garry invites Janine to the Slaters for Christmas, and Janine repays the compliment by helping Garry choose a present for Lynne by telling him that she really likes her ear-rings - even though Lynne thinks they are hideous. Janine grins. Lynne is getting ready for her Christmas holiday and not let Janine bother her. "I'm gonna forget about that slack little cow until New Year," Lynne says.
In the pub, the family say goodbye to Little Mo as she returns to Trevor. Mo gives a secret wink to Billy as he leaves to pay Trevor a courtesy call. "Are you Trevor?" Billy asks as a man answers the door. "Whatever it is I don't want any," Trevor replies. "I hear you hit women." "You what?" "That's what they're saying." "Is that right?" "Yeah. Behind closed doors, when it is just you and the Mrs. You give her a good pasting didn't you." "Have you got a death wish pal?" "Blokes like you are scum, you know that." "Come here." Trevor starts towards Billy, who is backing away. "Does it make you feel hard, beating up a bird." "Oh I'm hard alright. Let me show you how hard I am." With that, Trevor goes to grab Billy, but a huge menacing figure appears from the shadows. "Now this is Mouse," Billy says. "Mouse, this is the geezer what hits his wife." Trevor gets beaten up by Mouse.
Charlie pulls up with Maureen in the taxi. On seeing Trevor, Maureen immediately goes to his aid. "My husband needs me," says Maureen as the couple disappear into the house. Billy, Mo and Charlie watch with regret. Later on in the pub Mo tells Billy, "I think you've done more harm than good!" Monday 25th December
The family decide to spend some of their Christmas in the pub, but Kat refuses to get dressed. She wants to spend Christmas in her night-clothes. The others head off for the pub. Lynne is excited about a ring-shaped box that Garry has for her. When Kat arrives at the pub, she is wearing a large coat - underneath, she is still wearing her red nightie and delights in showing everyone.
Janine also delights in telling Lynne that she is coming for dinner. Charlie also invites Billy. Zoe tells Jamie, that she and Kerry are off to Tenerife. "If you play your cards right, I'll show you my snaps," she tells him. Maureen returns from Trevor. "I've left him," she tells them all. "Eureka!" yells Mo. At the dinner table, Billy gives Maureen a present and Lynne opens hers from Garry. "They're ear-rings - just like Janine's," smiles Garry. Janine gives her a cheeky smile. Lynne is horrified.
Later on, the happy crew are playing charades. It is Janine's turn. So far they have got 'D you think..' "Do you think I'm mental?" says Kat "Do you think I'm gross?" says Zoe. "I know," says Lynne. "Do you think I'm a cheap little tart." After the party, Lynne tells Charlie that it will be just family next year. "Sold," agrees Charlie. Tuesday 26th December
Trevor pulls up outside Number 23, waiting for Little Mo. Inside the house, the family are deciding what to do. "I hate boxing day," says Kat. "Nothing ever happens." Little Mo wants to play charades and gets up. "Brief Encounter." says Kat. "How did you know that?" "Because you did it yesterday, and last year, and the year before that." Explains Kat. "So what, are we just going to sit in front of the telly doing nothing are we?" "Well, it's better than watching you pretending to be a train." "I bet everyone else is out there enjoying themselves, having a lovely Christmas," Little Mo dreams. Maureen then decides to invite the neighbours over for a drink, but Robbie and Jim are worried about Jamie's revelation about the baby's father - Martin. Outside the house, Maureen bumps into Trevor, who has been waiting for her. "I've come to take you home," he says, but Maureen doesn't want to go back. "What did you expect me to do," she asks him. "Stick around and get hit again?" "I'm not leaving here without you," begs Trevor, and Little Mo goes back into the house.
Back in the house, Garry is discussing the religious aspects of Christmas. "I always thought that was a bit dodgy myself," he says. " 'Sorry Jo, I'm preggars. But don't worry, I haven't been playing away from home - God did it!' " "That's blasphemous," complains Little Mo. "All I'm saying is, that it's a bit iffy coming home and saying you've been impregnated by an 'Angel of the Lord.' " Garry continues. Little Mo is restless and it is driving Kat nuts. Then the phone starts to ring, but the caller keeps hanging up when someone answers it. As the day progresses, Garry suggest Monopoly, but the others disagree because Mo always cheats. "I do not cheat," she protests. "You do. Like shoving Park Lane down your knickers," laughs Kat.
The conversation then turns to Sonia, and Zoe calls her a slag, but Kat defends her. "I'm just saying, life ain't as simple as Zoe thinks it is. Just because you get pregnant, it don't make you a slut.. Just because you choose the wrong bloke, it don't make you an idiot." Garry is telling everyone about Reg Cox and how he died, when the phone rings again. This time Little Mo answers it. It is Trevor - and he is turning on the charm.
The family then decide to go to the pub. On the way Mo mentions the subject of marriage. "She might not want to marry me," says Garry. "How are you going to know if you don't ask her," asks Kat. "Alright then, I will," Garry replies without thinking. This makes everyone stop short, especially Lynne. Garry stutters, "I mean obviously not now. There's a time and a place for everything, isn't there. You know I love you don't you, Doll." "Yeah." says Lynne, disheartened. "See, she's happy," Garry tells everyone, relieved.
In the pub, Lynne suggests a game of 'guess the conversation'. They focus their attention on Barry and Natalie. "She's telling him that she's pregnant," Kat says. "Only it's not his, because she's had an affair with some bloke at an office party." "But," continues Maureen. "He decides to forgive her and bring them up as his own and they live happily ever after." "What about Tweedledee and Tweedledum," asks Lynne, referring to Robbie and Jim. "Robbie's telling Jim that he's gay," Kat says. "What about those two," Lynne asks, now referring to Mel and Phil. "She's asking him if he can see her roots," Laughs Kat. "Maybe she's asking him for a rise," Maureen says. "No. I reckon he's warning her off that Steve Owen," Lynne says.
Maureen makes an excuse to leave the others in the pub, but she is really off to see Trevor. Together they pack up her presents and leave the Slater house. "This is going to be a new start for the both of us," says Trevor. As they pack his car, Trevor notices the present from Billy and starts acting jealous. "Can we talk about this at home," Little Mo asks, looking worried. "Oh yes. You'd better believe we will," replies Trevor, menacingly. As they get into the car Mo starts to talk but Trevor interrupts. "Do yourself a favour, Mo. Shut up." And he locks the car door. On the way home, Kat comments, "Boxing day is always the same. Nothing ever happens."
Thursday 28th December.
Because Mo and Charlie are worried about Maureen, they decide to take it in turns to keep vigil outside Trevor's house. But no-one has seen her. Mo visits Sonia with some turkey stew. Sonia tells her just how she feels about Jamie, she then goes to give Jim and Robbie a piece of her mind. "Are you thick as well as useless?" she says, as she tells them to look after Sonia better. Maureen phones her family from Clacton, saying she is alright, but she is covered in bruises again. Sunday 31st December
It is the afternoon and Mark gets Garry out of bed to discuss milk. But Garry is not alone, and it isn't Lynne. In the cafe, Robbie is planning a new year's eve party with Zoe, Kerry, Ashley, Asif Sonia and Jamie. In the pub, Mo phones Zoe, to make sure things are quiet. But the party is only just beginning. At Mark's house, Garry answers the door to a 'tripping' Martin before leaving for the Vic. In the Vic, Janine takes more than a friendly interest in him. When the family return home to see in the new year, they catch the party in full flow, and Ashley and Asif wearing some of Kat's finest lingerie. Happy New Year!
