Thursday 2 November

Pat's affair

Frank searches for a missing letter detailing his affair with Pat, it turns out that Maureen had moved it whilst cleaning their kitchen.  When Little Mo remembers, she passes the note to Peggy and when Frank finds out he lays into her.  "You stupid little girl," he says, "You've probably ruined the whole of my life."  Mo rescues her as Frank goes up to Peggy to face the music.

Peggy announces the affair in front of everyone in the pub, and as Roy and Pat leave to discuss the situation, Mo and family are overheard discussing the situation.

"What you have to remember is," claims Mo, "Pat Harris, as was then, was a prostitute."

"What.  Really Nan?" asks Lynne

"She'll  deny it now, but she was."

"How long are we talking?" asks Charlie

"How long? Who knows.  There's women like her down Dog Street in there carpet slippers even now." continues Mo.

"Don't be ridiculous," says Charlie

"You're having a laugh." says Lynne

"All I'm saying is sex was the only thing Pat Harris was any good at.  She couldn't get enough of it, and she ain't changed.  Once a tart, always a tart."

Monday 6th November

Mo's Cot

n the cafe, Lynne tells Janine to take the  day off as she is upset after her dad, Frank, walked out.

In the market, Zoe and Mo wind Robbie up over the fact that Sonia's baby is coming home and he will need a block and tackle to lift the baby out of the bath.

Mo also takes the opportunity to set up a dodgy deal involving a cot.

Charlie and Jim pick up Sonia and the baby from the hospital, as Mo pays thirty quid for a stolen cot.  She tries selling it to the Jackson's for forty-five quid but, because they only had a little over ten pounds, Little Mo says the rest is a present.  Mo was not pleased with this.

Tuesday 7th November

Zoe's scores

In the Square, Zoe and Kerry are giving the local men scores out of ten.  As Asif and Martin walk past, Zoe gives them a  score of 3 or 3½.  Kerry says 5. "They've got potential," she laughs.

When Phil walks past, Kerry gives him a score of 4.  "I'd give him more than that," says Zoe, " You want them with a bit of experience.  He'd know how to reach all the right bits!"

In the cafe, Mel Jim and Little Mo are worried their jobs are in jeopardy as Peggy has not opened the Vic.  This also annoys Kat as she can't go there for a drink.  They arrange to go to the E20, but Maureen reveals she already has a date.  "In front of the telly with Alan Titchmarsh," she says with a smile.

When Zoe complains about not going to the club, Mo makes a decision.  "None of you are going out.  So shut your mouths and behave," she orders.

Family night in

Mo, Charlie, Lynne, Kat , Maureen, Zoe and Kerry are 'enjoying' each others company on their family night in.

Charlie shares his brandy with Zoe as the others decide what to watch on TV.

"I wanna watch Ground Force," says Maureen.

"You've always had the hots for that Alan Tit-Marsh," moans Kat emphasizing the tit.

"There's a documentary I fancy," says Mo.

"Is that the one on fencing?" asks Lynne, referring to the handling of stolen goods, and not garden fencing as Maureen first assumes.

"After some tips Nan?." says Zoe.

Charlie turns the television off.  "We're meant to be having a family night in, so we can  sit and chat.  Believe it or not, we used to do a lot of this in the sixties."

"No wonder everyone was on drugs," Kat comments.

Charlie gives in and puts the film on as Zoe continues to help herself to the brandy.  Later on, Zoe confides in Kerry that she is still a virgin and then starts to throw up.  It is the effect of the alcohol.

Eventually, Mo lets Lynne, Kat and Maureen go to the club, whilst Zoe is suffering the effects of too much alcohol.

Thursday 9th November

Kerry's revelations

Zoe is suffering from a hangover and refuses to go to work.  Charlie goes to tell Pauline that Zoe has a virus.  She has to get Ashley Cotton to mind the stall and when Eddie Skinner catches him stealing, we find out that Kerry is actually Eddie's daughter.

At the Vic, Maureen apologies to Peggy about Frank's note and Peggy tells her not to worry about it.

In the cafe, Robbie enquires after Kerry.  "Did she mention me?" he asks.

"She never stopped talking about you," mocks Mo, " 'Why does he keep following me about'   'Why doesn't he just leave me alone'"

When Kerry sees Robbie with the baby, she goes all gooey and suggests taking her for  a walk.  "YES!" thinks Robbie, smiling.

In the Square, Mo helps Pat with her stuff.  "You might be an old slapper, but I don't like seeing anyone get caught out," she says, "You've been keeping your head down.  You're not the Pat I remember, you weren't frightened what anybody thought."

Monday 13th November

Bites and Beer

Nick Cotton is back, and Zoe takes an immediate interest in him.  "He's loaded," she says.  The only person trying not to notice is Eddie Skinner.

Garry makes another pass at Kat and arranges to meet her at the arches at 5pm.  When she turns up, they kiss and Kat deliberately bites his lip.  "You get the message now?" she asks him, and walks off.  Later on, in the pub, he tells Lynne that he hit himself with a spanner, to explain the mark.

Also, Charlie starts discussing with Jim and Terry the merits of brewing their own beer.

Tuesday 14th November

Charlie's Brewery

Charlie has a proposition for Jim; they are going to brew their own beer.  There is one obstacle - Mo.  After Jim offers the savings from it to go into the housekeeping pot, Mo agrees.  "Just make sure those girls don't get near it, because it's lethal that stuff," she says.  Charlie sets it up in his airing cupboard, amongst Zoe's  old baby clothes.

Once again Garry offers Jamie advice about his near miss with Sonia.  "Find yourself a girl with a big heart," he tells him, "and she'll look after you.  Every-time you let her down, and you will let her down  'cos it's only natural - she'll forgive you just like that.  She'll always be there for you, just like your old mum.  I'm not saying you want them thick or anything but ... birds with brains is trouble!"

After setting up the brewing equipment, Charlie takes Jim for a beer at the Vic.  Jim tells him he is a connoisseur of beers, so Charlie challenges him and  they spend the night getting drunk testing out his knowledge.

In the square, Billy is waiting for Maureen as she struggles past with her shopping.  He offers to help her.  When Billy invites himself in for a cup of tea, Mo catches them.  "You know our Mo's a married woman," she warns, "So don't go getting any funny idea's."  But she still gets chance to sell him a magnetic water softener.

In the pub, Garry is still trying to chat Kat up, he asks her if she is free Saturday night.  "Actually, I'm busy every night for the rest of my life, seeing as it's you who's asking," she tells him.

Thursday 16th November

Knicker-nicker

On the stall, Zoe is having trouble counting out change, as Eddie turns up and helps out.

"They don't teach them like they used to, do they," he tells Lisa.  Zoe is annoyed, "You didn't have to go and embarrass me like that."  As Joe walks by, Zoe throws him an apple.  "You're gonna have to pay for that," warns Eddie.

In the cafe, Jim and Charlie are discussing the still.

"How's our little investment coming on?" asks Jim.

"fermenting slowly mate, and my girls are all giving me ear-ache about the whiff of it," replies Charlie

"Have you tried laying in the bath with that stench in the air," Kat chimes in

"Yeah.  Close your eyes you'd think you've passed out face down on a pub floor," Lynne says in agreement.

Back at the Slater house, Jim and Charlie are making a sandwich as Mo walks in with the washing.  Routing through the basket she gets a shock.  "I knew it!  Some little beggars nicked my drawers off the line!"

"You ought to see the local scout group," says Jim, helpfully.

"Eh?"

"Well it stands to reason, doesn't it.  They're the only ones that will be short of a tent or two."

Babysitting

In the cafe, Zoe agrees to baby-sit Joe for Beppe.  Kerry invites herself and Robbie along.  Kerry helps herself to Beppe's alcohol and convinces Robbie to get a bottle of cider.

In the pub, Billy has dressed up to impress Maureen.  As they are chatting, Mo walks up, "Still trying to get your grubby mits on my granddaughter, are you?"

Maureen is taken in by his gentlemanly behaviour.  "You really are a decent bloke, ain't you?" she convinces herself, "We're gonna have to find you a really nice girlfriend, someone who deserves you.  So you can get yourself married like me and my Trevor."

Kat goes to the bar as Garry walks in.

"I've forgiven you you know, for biting my lip.  I mean, we can all get over excited in the heat of the moment, can't we," says Garry

"You know you are really starting to wind me up with this.  You ought to pack it in or next time it won't be just your lip that gets hurt," Kat replies.

"More physical contact.  I just cant wait."

With that, Kat knees him in the groin and storms out as Lynne walks in.  Garry tells Lynne that Kat had got drunk and came on to him.

Lynne is angry.  "She is my sister Garry.  That is one line you do not cross."

Back at Beppe's, Kerry is getting drunk and, as Robbie goes to hug her, she knocks over the table, spilling the drinks.  As they are trying to clean up, Sandra arrives and sees how drunk Kerry is.  Sandra goes to fetch Beppe as Kerry throws up.

As Sandra enters the pub, Jim is still winding Mo up about her lost underwear.  "I think you're making a mountain out of a scout tent Mo, it's only a pair of passion killers isn't it."

"You aren't the phantom knicker-nicker are you?"  Mo asks.

Beppe returns home and slings the girls out.  "Do you know how much damage you've caused me tonight?"

"We'll pay for it, won't we Kez," says Zoe, upset.

"This is not the sort of damage you can pay for.  You've just lost me my son."

Monday 20 November

Lynne's fury

Kat returns home after a night out unaware that Lynne is furious at her because Garry has told her that Kat came onto him.  Lynne confides in Maureen and when Kat comes home, they both give her the cold shoulder.  When Lynne walks out, Maureen tells Kat to see Lynne to sort things out.

In the cafe, Lynne confronts Kat who is still unaware of what Garry has said.  "Garry's told me what happened," yells Lynne.  With that Kat storms off to see Garry.

In the garage, Kat confronts Garry.

"What have you said to Lynne?"

"We'd both had a few, hadn't we.  She just must have put two and two together."

"Yeah and come up with five!  Now I want you to get over to that cafe and tell her what really happened."

"About us?  She couldn't handle it."

"But she can handle her sister stabbing her in the back," says Kat and rushes off to see Lynne again.

"He's lying!" Kat tells Lynne, "Read my lips.  There is nothing going on between me and Garry."

"Only because he's got more sense than to go out with every slapper that offers it to him on a plate."

"Oh shut up.  Just because you're too prissy to keep him."   Kat replies.  With that Lynne leaves the cafe.,  "I can't take this no more."  Outside the cafe , the argument continues and Zoe is brought into it.  { CLIP }  "What did you have to tell her that for?"

"Because that's what happened," says Kat

"but she wanted to marry him and have his kids and everything," Zoe continues.

"Not my life!  Not my problem!"

"No!  It's hers and you've just gone and ruined it!  You can be a right selfish bitch , can't you!"

Garry's Lies

Back at the Slater house, mo has a the police round to report her missing knickers.

"What sort of sentence do you get for a knicker theft then?" she asks PC Wilson.

"Can I have a look at the crime scene?" he asks her and she shows him outside.

Lynne then walks in and tells Mo that Kat has been trying it on with Garry.  "Right," says mo, "I'll sort this out."

Charlie and Jim then walk in and discuss the benefits of selling their newly made beer.  Charlie comments on the legality of it, just as the PC comes in from the garden.

In the garage, Garry is telling Phil how to treat women.  "You've got to treat women like our punters.  You've got about a minute to decide whether you can get away with a full service or just do an interim."

"Here's your chance to test your theory," Phil says as Mo walks in.  "I want you to tell me what's going on with those girls."

Garry tells Mo that Kat had had a drink and was just mucking about.  "If I find out you've been messing Lynne about, it won't be oil you'll be up to armpits in!" Mo threatens.

Kat's torment

Later on, as Kat returns home, she overhears Lynne say how much she loves Garry, so she lies and tells the family that she came onto him.  "You disgusting, filthy slapper.  How could you do that to me?" Lynne yells, "How can you do that to yourself?"

Kat goes to the Vic to drown her sorrows and makes another play for Steve.  Steve responds to her because Mel is listening, but when they leave together and Kat tries to kiss him, Steve turns on her.  "Do you think I'd take it further with a little slapper like you?" he says.  "Look at you.  You're a state!"

Kat, feeling totally rejected, sits on Arthur's bench in the rain.  She hears Garry and Lynne talking as they go past.

"I'm not going to believe another word she says," says Lynne

"What sort of person would tell lies like that, eh?" Garry replies.

Kat cries.

Tuesday 21 November

Charlie the peacemaker

Zoe is still having trouble on the stall, as she almost accepts an Irish fiver.  Eddie steps in again, "You are a liability," he tells her.  When Mark returns, he decides to take a look at the books, which worries Zoe.

Back at the Slaters' house, the air is frosty as Lynne and Kat are having breakfast.  Kat walks out as Charlie comes in from work and notices the atmosphere.  "I'm going to get my paper," he tells them, "and when I come back I want it sorted!"

On the way to the shop he passes Zoe on the stall and gets the details of what had happened with Garry.

Zoe and Kerry got to the garage to visit Jamie and to tell Garry that Charlie needs to see him.

In the pub, Garry thanks Kat for not saying what really happened.  "Don't flatter yourself," she says, "I'm doing this for Lynne, not you."  Charlie enters and catches them together.  "Very cosy," he says.

Charlie talks to the both.

"I don't want to know about the gory details but I do know that my family are at each others throats and a little bird told me it's got something to do with you." he says looking at Garry.

"ME?  why would anyone want top be fighting over me?"

"Because you're a little chancer with your brains in your trousers."

As he goes on he warns Garry, "If I find out you've done anything to upset my daughter, or any of my family, you'll lose your privileges.  Do you get my meaning?"

As Garry leaves, Charlie takes Kat to the cafe to sort things out with Lynne.

"Do you remember what your mother used to say when you fell out?"

"There's enough trouble in the world." says Lynne.

"I didn't come here to referee a re-match," Charlie tells them, "I want you to kiss and make up."

Lynne and Kat grudgingly apologize to each other and Charlie leaves.

"You just stay away from my Garry, then." Lynne adds.

"Don't worry.  You can keep him.!" Kat replies.

Zoe is thrilled when Mark tells her the books balance perfectly.

Thursday 23 November.

Ian loses it

It is the day of Ian's bankruptcy hearing and he is rushing around desperately trying to raise thirteen thousand pounds.  He tries to convince Laura to stay but Mo is watching and sees him grab her.

"What are you looking at?" he asks her.

"You!  Raising your hand to that nice young girl in there.  Do it again and I'll be straight on to the old bill, I promise you." Mo replies.

"Why don't you mind your own business you nosey old cow," yells Ian and rushes into his house.

"Did you hear what he said to me?" Mo asks Kat, who has just walked out of the house.

As Ian rushes through the square, Kat stops him.  "You called Nan a stupid, old cow and I ain't having it.  Unless you want my fist in your face, I suggest you get over now and apologise to her."

As Ian pushes her out of the way she yells, "You're dead, mate!"

In the Vic, Ian burst in on the ladies toilet to speak to mel.  Lynne is there with her.

"Ian," Lynne laughs, " It might have escaped your notice but this is the Ladies toilet."

"Really?  I thought it was the cafe.  So why don't you get back  there and shut up!"

"Boss or no boss,  That's bang out of order."

As Lynne leaves, she bumps into Kat who tells her what Ian said to Mo.  The pair of them gang up on him.

"Hold it right there, you."  Kat orders.

"I've just heard what you said.  No-body insults my Nan and gets away with it."  Lynne says.

"We want an apology and we want it now." Kat says.

"Tough!" replies Ian and pushes past them both.

Charlie to the rescue

In the cafe, Ian grabs as much of the till money as he can.  Kat is in there with Zoe. Mo and Maureen.  Kat once again asks for an apology to her, her Nan and her sisters.  Ian is in too much of a hurry and pushes Kat who knocks her and Zoe over.

Soon the whole Slater family are up in arms and there is a showdown in the square.

Charlie stops Ian.  "I hear you've been giving my girls some lip.  In fact you've been downright rude" Charlie tells him, "You called Mo an old cow and you barged in on Lynne in the Ladies. And you've also pushed Zoe and Kat around.  That is not on, d'you hear.  THAT IS NOT ON AT ALL.  Right. Apologise."

Ian sarcastically apologises to the girls and turns to Charlie, "Now will you keep your interfering tarts out of my way."

With that Charlie punches Ian.  "Do you get the message?  Don't do it again!"

Monday 27 November

Arrangements

It is early in the morning and Charlie is woken up by the sound of Ian's car being repossessed.  Lynne is worried about her job at the cafe and Zoe is still eyeing up Jamie.

Barry tries to promote his new cab firm in the cafe, but Lynne opposes him.  She doesn't want  the competition for her dad.

Mel asks Kat what happened between her and Steve and tricks her into letting slip that she hadn't slept with him.

In the Vic, Maureen has just finished cleaning the flat when Chris de Burgh comes on the radio.  As she daydreams, Billy watches.

Back at the Slaters, Charlie and Jim are drinking their home brew and disturbing Kat.  Mo walks in and has a go at them.  As Jim laughs at her, Mo tells him, "I want to get some practice in too.  At stuffing a turkey.  Are you volunteering?"

Afterwards, Mo tells Charlie that she thinks she deserves a cut of their profits.

Garry convinces Mark to let him move in with him.

Kerry arranges a trip to Southend with Zoe, Jamie and Robbie.

Tuesday 28th November

Southend Ahoy

Zoe, Kerry, Jamie and Robbie head for Southend.  Zoe finds it difficult choosing what to wear as she wants to impress Jamie.  "If you want to impress Jamie, you've got to show a bit of flesh," Kerry tells her.

Jamie is unhappy that Zoe is coming with them.

At Southend there is hardly anything open.  Jamie is not enjoying himself and Zoe thinks it's because of her.  To liven things up, Kerry suggests breaking into the theme park, where Robbie gets one of the rides started.  Unbeknown to them, they are being watched by surveillance cameras.

Jamie confides in Zoe why he is not happy.  Seeing Sonia with the baby, brought back his feelings of betrayal.

When the security guards arrive, Jamie and Zoe run off but Kerry and Robbie get caught.  They meet up again on the pier where Robbie tells Jamie what he thinks about the way he treated Sonia.  Jamie gets so frustrated that he drives off and leaves them stranded in Southend.

Thursday 30th November

Home Bloomers

Billy gives Maureen a present, a Chris de Burgh tape.  "I'll think of you when I play it," Little Mo says.  "You do that," replies Billy.

Charlie is annoyed with Jamie for leaving his daughter stranded at Southend.  He has had to go and pick them up.  Zoe sees that Jamie and Sonia have made up and is upset.  "He's back with her," she says to Kerry.

Back at the Slaters, Kerry tries to cheer Zoe up and Maureen tells her what it was like to meet 'the one'.  "I remember when I first saw my Trevor.  All wobbly inside, I went.  And I weren't as old as you, Zo'."

Charlie and Jim start to bottle up their home brew.  They sell some to Billy and Mark, who try to sneak a drink in the pub.

When they are bottling up, they find a surprise in the bucket - It is Mo's lost knickers!

Lynne sees this and decides to use it to her advantage.  When Mel tries to get volunteers for the Christmas calendar, Lynne volunteers Charlie and Jim.  When they refuse, Lynne says to Maureen, "Right.  Go home and get Nan.  Let's see what she has to say about it."

Charlie and Jim realise they are being blackmailed.  "We're snookered here mate," Jim says.
