Sunday 24 September

Two jobs

After the crash into Mark's stall, Charlie comes up with a suggestion; Zoe will work with Mark as repayment.  After unloading the fruit, Zoe notices the rotten fruit and asks what to do with it.  Mark suggests chucking it because it wouldn't sell.  "My Nan says you can sell anything," replies Zoe and asks to set up a small section of the stall.  Mark challenges her to sell the rotten fruit.

Lynne starts work in the Cafe and finds she has to work twice as hard to cover for the Laziness of Janine.  That is until Ian walks in a and Janine starts acting busy.  "I've been chasing after her all day,"  whinges Janine.  "You have my sympathy," replies Ian.

Back on the stall, Zoe is working hard at selling her rotten stock as Mo walks by.

"How you getting on with my Zoe?" she enquires.

"She's doing alright, Mrs. Harris" replies Mark

"Ain't a bad kid, is she"

"When she's not driving."

In the cafe, Lynne loses her temper with Janine as she continues to play up to Ian.  She grabs a frying pan and threatens her.

"Right lady.  I'm gonna see if this fits," she says, "Now, I don't mind doing my fair share of the work.  That way I feel like I've earned my money at the end of the week.  But if you think I'm some sort of muppet then you've made the biggest mistake of your life.  D'you understand me?"

Zoe manages to sell the rotten staff on Mark's stall and earns herself a bonus.  As she helps pack away the stall, Lynne storms out of the Cafe leaving behind a fuming Janine.

"Oi!  Where are you going?  You've got all that washing up to do,"  screams Janine.

Threats

Back at home, Zoe tells her dad that she had done a good job and asks if she could put her bonus towards her first driving lesson.  He tells her he'll think about it.

Maureen asked how  Lynne got on at the Cafe and she told her that Ian, 'The flash git who lives next door-but-one'.  "It's just the way he talks to you, like you're beneath him or something."

"I've had enough of this," says Mo, and storms over to the Vic to have it out with him.  She orders him to give Lynne a fair chance or else.

"I don't have to listen to this," says Ian.

"Oh yes you do darling 'cos I'll take you outside now and give you a good hiding. That won't do your reputation much good would it?  Being bashed up by an old lady."  Ian leaves with his tail between his legs.

"See," said Mo, "He ain't such a bad fellow after all."

Monday 25 September

Kevin

It's the middle of the night and Kevin is back, throwing stones at the window trying to get hold of Kat.  "I love you, Kat," he pleads.  Mo throws a bowl of water over him, again.

The Queen Vic is promoting a Karaoke night as Zoe walks through the Square.  She sees Kevin asleep on the bench.  "You still here?  We heard all about last night from Nan.  We had a right  laugh about you  this morning," She teased.

Back in the Slater house, Lynne is staring out of the window at the hopeless Kevin.

"I think it's quite romantic," says Maureen, which makes the others tease her more about the arrival of her husband, Trevor.

Meanwhile, Kat is searching through a record collection for a number they can do at the karaoke night.  She finds a copy of the Nolan's ' I'm in the mood for dancing '.

In the Cafe, Lynne asks Garry to pick her up for the karaoke at 7:30pm because they are all performing in the karaoke.  "Maybe I will, maybe I won't," he says and walks out and meets Kat going into the launderette and tries chatting her up.  "Come on Kat," he says, "If you didn't  like it just as much as I do, you wouldn't still be talking to me."

Karaoke

As the girls rehearse their routine, Kevin is spotted peering through the window at them by Jim.  As Kevin scarpers, Jim has a little peek through the window himself and continues to watch girls rehearse.  Garry spots Laura struggling with the shopping and helps her home with it, much to the annoyance of Ian.

The girls try on their outfits, which for Zoe includes a very short skirt.

"You must be joking," says Charlie, horrified

"This is show business, dad.  You have to look the part," replies Zoe.

"Show business or not, they're not gonna see next weeks washing.  No arguments, go back and get changed."

Lynne is on the look-out for Garry who appears to have stood her up and Zoe changes into a long skirt.

Garry is already in the pub, trying it on with Laura when the Slater girls come.  Laura is getting more drunk and Garry is becoming more friendly.

The girls get up and perform their Nolan Sisters number and Zoe pulls off her skirt revealing the short skirt underneath just as Charlie walks in with Kevin.

As the song finishes, Charlie drags Zoe home, Kevin gives Kat a bunch of flowers and declares his love for her again, and Lynne storms out after seeing Garry leave with Laura.

Laura, who is very drunk, mistakes Garry's friendliness as something which Ian isn't giving her, and kisses him.  Lynne catches them and storms home.

"I was entirely innocent," explains Garry.

Kat slaps him and says, "That's what you get for messing with my sister!"

Tuesday 26 September

Aftermath

Lynne is devastated by the way Garry behaved and is in tears.  Robbie can hear her crying through the wall.  When Janine calls up to ask where Lynne is, Kat tells her she is ill.

In the cafe, Janine tells Garry that Lynne is skiving so he goes over to see her.  He tries to give his side of the story; that she was drunk and all over him.

Robbie pops over to  ask for a cup of sugar, in the vain hope that he can see Kat.

In the market, Zoe continues to flirt with Jamie and Sonia gets even more jealous.  "Are you buying?" she asks," because if you are, he ain't for sale!"

Back at the house, Lynne has forgiven Garry, much to the annoyance of Kat.

In the cafe, Robbie tells Janine that Lynne had been crying, so when Lynne turns up to work, Janine starts winding her up about it.

"Why don't you shut your mouth you poisonous little bitch," she tells Janine

Janine convinces Lynne that Laura would be incapable of making the first move, which causes her to be more suspicious of Garry.  So she and Kat, make their way round to have it out with Laura, who admitted she made the first move.  "Go near him again and your dead, are we clear?" Lynne threatens.

Maureen leaves to spend some time with Trevor in Dagenham for a few days.

Monday 2 October

After the weekend

It is Monday morning as Kat returns home after a heavy weekend clubbing.  Robbie looks on, longingly.  As Kat passes, she drops a bottle and Robbie picks it up, using it as an excuse to go and visit her.  When he does he is lost for words and all he can  manage is, "Bottle.  Lost it." which is exactly what he had done!  Mo takes the opportunity to flog him a dodgy walkman.

Garry manages to drag himself out of bed and Kat asks him what he had done at the weekend.  She had seen him with another woman and threatened to tell Lynne.  "Go on," he says, "Light the touch paper.  See what happens.  There is only one person who's gonna get hurt."

Back in the cafe, Garry tries  sweet talking Lynne to get a free feed as Robbie walks in to ask some questions about Kat.

"What sort of bloke does she go for?" he asks.

"Pop stars.  Professional footballers.  Jamie Redknapp is her favourite."

Robbie leaves feeling better.  He thinks he looks a bit like Jamie Redknapp himself.

Mo and Zoe take the laundry to the launderette, passing Pat on the way, who is receiving a bunch of flowers from Frank.

"I wonder what she had to do to get those," Mo comments.

Kat questions Lynne about Garry, asking if things are O.K. between them.  Lynne tells her that she cares for him.  A great deal.

Charlie has been asked to collect the laundry, because, unknown to him,  the girls are trying to match him up with Pauline.  As Kat and Lynne walk in, Charlie and Pauline are ignoring each other.

"I didn't know she worked here," Lynne lied, "She seems like a nice woman, don't she."

"Yeah." replies Charlie innocently.

In the pub, Kat orders Garry home to have a word with him and turns down an invitation from Robbie, who had accidentally invited her to a bondage club.  Back at the house Kat tells Garry that Lynne really cares for him.  "I care for her too, but it's you I really want." he says.

Garry continues to tell her how much he wants her but Kat is so appalled she slaps him.  At that moment, Mo walks in - she has been listening outside the door.

Tuesday 3 October

Warpath

Mo is on the warpath and out for Garry's blood as she nabs him in the market, whereas Mark is after someone to work for him on the stall.  Lynne and Kat are still trying to match-make Charlie with Pauline as Robbie continues to mope after Kat.

In the Slater house, Mo confronts Garry and he tries to wriggle out of it.  He blames Kat for making the moves.

"I'm a one woman man, Mo you know that," he says.

"One at a time?"

One.  Full stop.  And her names Lynne."

As Lynne walks in, Mo tells her that Garry has come over to fix the cab and he's going to take her out, as a surprise.

Mo then goes to see Kat in the pub.

"Do you seriously think I'd get hold of my sisters boyfriend?" argues Kat

"You'd better not," says Mo.

"What do you take me for?"

"But would Garry mess around with his girlfriend sister given half the chance?"

"He's not gonna get the chance."

"With someone else then.  What about him and that nanny?"

"I don't know.  There are a lot of scrubbers around I suppose."  replies Kat, glancing meaningfully at Mel.

Lynne and Zoe then come into the pub.  Lynne tells Kat that Mark is looking for someone to work for him and drags her to the stall.  But the job has gone - to Zoe, who had overheard them talking about it.  "You got to admire her cheek," said Mark, " Last week she did her level best to demolish the stall.  This week she's my new apprentice."

Thursday 5 October

Cupid's Arrows

Zoe starts working on the stall, as Charlie watches her.  As Pauline comes out of the shop, he says "Your Mark's got her well trained."

"That's because he had a good teacher," she replies, "His uncle Pete."

Zoe also has another onlooker - Martin.  "You'll go blind." comments Mark.

As Charlie starts his cab, Lynne rushes over - she has seen him chatting to Pauline and is getting hopeful.

"Nice chat?" she asks.

"What?" asks Charlie, confused.

"With Pauline.  She keeps herself in good shape, doesn't she." Lynne smiles. " How's the cab  by the way? Nan said Garry was looking at it."

"No.  She's running as sweet as a nut!" Charlie says, driving away leaving Lynne bewildered.

Lynne and Kat decide to help cupid along and book a taxi for Pauline.  As the taxi pulls up, the girls watch from the square.  They are disappointed when Charlie just shrugs it off as a mistake.

Meanwhile on the stall, Martin tries to chat Zoe up.  Trying to act as cool as he can, he gets very embarrassed as Pauline calls him in to tidy his room.

In the cafe, Lynne chucks Jim and Terry out after Jim accuses him of trying it on with Janine.  Phil walks in and is impressed.  "You can handle yourself then." he says

"Growing up in our house you had to.  Don't believe what they say about boys, when you've got five girls fighting over one bathroom, things can get very personal."

Garry walks in and Lynne introduces him.  Phil says he's looking for a mechanic so Lynne tries to fix him up with a job.  "Terrific!" says Garry, sarcastically.

In the pub, Robbie makes a fool of himself trying to chat up Kat.

"What team do you support?" says Robbie

"Football team?"

"Yeah."

"I don't like football."

"So you haven't get a favourite team then."

"You're sharp aren't you."

"Yeah"

"Have you come from some sort of home or something?" enquires Kat, which embarrasses Robbie and he leaves, his tail between his legs. Kat smiles.

Monday 9th October

Little Mo's return

Maureen arrives back after spending the week with Trevor.  She has come back early because Trevor was needed back at work.  Maureen asks Kat to help her move some boxes and bends over to pick some up.  At this moment Robbie comes out and gets a good view down Kat's night-dress.  He is speechless.

Garry comes round and asks Kat what she has said to Mo.  Lynne sees him and asks what he is doing there and he quickly makes an excuse.  Lynne leaves for work late and Garry follows.

Zoe is unhappy that Maureen is back because now she hasn't got a room to herself.

Outside the launderette, Mo spots Pat and makes a comment about her 'fancy man' spending the weekend.  This worries Pat.

In the cafe, Janine walks in late. Lynne moans at her, saying she had been there since seven and because she was late, she can do the mopping up at the end of the day.  Robbie enters and tells Janine that the cafe was open until 8:30.

"Are you alright?" asks Janine

"Yes thank you.  You?" Lynne replies.

"Not bad.  Oh I forgot to tell you, I'm gonna be nipping out at lunchtime."

"Lunchtime.  You're having a laugh."

"In the case, the same goes for me doing the mopping."

"You were late Janine, you didn't get here 'til nine."

"Half an hour after you and if I remember rightly it was your turn to open up.  I wonder what Ian would think about that." There is an icy silence as Janine smiles smugly.

Also in the cafe, Robbie gets some advice from Barry about how to win over Kat.  "Be an action man," he says.

Chains of Love

Back at the Slater house, Kevin returns looking for Kat.  "I ain't leaving here 'til I see her." he says and pulls out a huge chain from a carrier bag.  Robbie takes the opportunity to be an action man and goes to confront him.  Kevin accidentally elbows Robbie in the nose.  "Sorry mate, you caught me by surprise," says Kevin as Robbie staggers off.

Kevin chains himself to the Slater's Gate and starts calling for Kat.  As he does, the audience grows!  Mo tells him that Kat isn't there.  Pauline drags Ian round to sort things out.  Maureen answers the door.

"Can I speak to your mum please." asks Ian

"My mum's dead." replies Little Mo.

"The old crone in the window then." asks Ian, referring to Mo.

"I heard that!" shouts Mo appearing in the doorway.

"Look!  Will you get rid of him or he's gonna call the police," says Pauline, pointing at Kevin then Ian.

"See Kevin, they're calling the police," says Mo as she drags Little Mo back in the house, slamming the door.

Pauline turns to Ian.  "Fat lot of use you were!"

Ian tries to convince Kevin to unlock himself, but he can't - he has swallowed the key.

Maureen slips Kevin a blanket as Kat returns.  "I love you Kat." He pleads again.  Garry also turns up.  "I've got some bolt cutters down the garage.  Have you out in five minutes - on one condition." He looks meaningfully at Kat.

"Forget it," Says Kat and walks into the house disgusted.

Tuesday 10 October

Gatecrashing

Outside the Slater house, Kevin is still chained to the gate.  Charlie steps over him to get to work.  Asif runs up to him.

"Did Kat come out and see you then?" he asks.

"Not yet." replies Kevin, "which one are you hanging about for?"

"Me? No I was just passing."

"Oh yeah? So why have you been standing over there staring at the house then?"

"I was watching you, you plonker." replies Asif., "Anyway, has Zoe come out yet?"

"Why don't you knock and see?"

"Not my style mate.  Too pushy.  Birds don't like it when you're too pushy" warns Asif and walks off.

At the breakfast table, Lynne and Maureen discuss other ways to get dad and Pauline together.  "I'm not sure we should be doing anything," says Maureen concerned, "It is mum's anniversary tomorrow."

Kat comes down.  "Up before mid-day?" laughs Lynne, "what's wrong?"

As Lynne leaves, she takes Kevin a cup of tea.  "That's right Lynne, make him feel even more welcome." moans Kat.

Charlie has borrowed a  metal cutter to cut Kevins chains off.  Mo unplugs it.

"What are you doing?" asks Charlie.

"Putting an end to all this nonsense." she replies and lifts the gate off it's hinges.  It was already broken and Kevin could have been freed at any time!

Kat confronts Kevin.

"Go away. Its over." says Kat

"Why?  We were so good together," pleads Kevin.

"For two weeks yeah. I slept with you Kevin.  We're not joined at the hip."

"But we got loads in common."

"No we haven't. you want a wife and 2.4 children.  I just want a laugh I don't wanna go out with you.  I'm sorry"

"you don't mean that"

"yes I do. go away and get a life."

After the scene is over Mo asks Charlie if he's alright.  "I should be thinking about Viv, not  idiots like him."

As Zoe heads to work, Asif takes his chance to speak to her.  "He's a bit of a Muppet, your sisters boyfriend.  Isn't he?"

"yeah.  We seem to attract them in our family," replies Zoe and walks off.

Crossed Wires

In the cafe, Pauline tells Barry to get himself an allotment as it is good for gentle exercise.  Lynne overhears Pauline say she wants someone to work on Arthur's and volunteers her dad, Charlie.  "Tell him to have a word with me," Pauline says.

As Kat and Maureen come into the cafe, Robbie leaves trying to hide a huge plaster on his nose.  Kat heads straight for Beppe.  "  How about that for timing.  A seat by the best looking man in the place," she say, "Mind you, there's not much competition."

Outside in the square, Mo is admiring the contents of a couple's pram.  "She's a little beauty isn't she."  but it isn't a baby - It's a large joint of pork.

In the pub, Kat and Maureen try to convince Charlie that gardening would be good for him.  "I don't need a new interest.  I've got my work, the crossword, the tele and the 'Hammers'."he replies.

Maureen tries a new tactic.  Pauline's over there, she wanted to talk to you ... about the knowledge.  You should go and talk to her."

"I suppose so, if she's interested.  But she's a bit old to start now."

Charlie approaches Pauline

"Hello," says Pauline

"Hello Pauline," replies Charlie, "I think I can help you out.  It's not easy of course and it takes a lot of hard work."

"Oh well, I'm pleased you said that.  I really want someone who can put in the time.  And of course I'd go halves on the fees."

"Sorry?"

"Well, it's only a few pound a year but I thought if you were interested I could help you out."

"But I thought I was supposed to be helping you out.  What I mean is, I've already got my license."

"License?"

"You can drive, can't you?"

"No, well you can walk there in no time at all."
"You can't walk all those routes, it's hundreds of miles."
"What is?"

"The routes of the knowledge.  Most people go out and get a scooter or moped."

|What are you talking about?"

"Me helping you to learn to be a cabby."

"Why on earth should I want to do that?"

"I thought that's what you wanted to talk to me about."

"No.  I thought you wanted to talk to me about taking over my allotment."

"I hate gardening."

"Not according to your Lynne."

"Ahh - I know what's going on." says Charlie as the penny drops. At this point Kat and Maureen sidle out of the pub.

"Well, I wish someone would tell me," says Pauline, confused.

Busted

Outside in the market, Asif asks Robbie for a job sweeping around the stalls, especially the one where Zoe is working.

Back at the house, Mo is cooking the pork she bought.  When Charlie comes in, he confronts his daughters about setting him up with Pauline.  Kat tells him he should be grateful.

"Grateful?  For what exactly?  The fact that my daughters seem to have forgotten what tomorrow is.  Do you really think I am interested in chatting up another woman?  You ought to have more respect."

In the square, Barry has faked a heart attack.  People gather round to see if he's alright and Asif tries his first aid on him, after all, Zoe is watching.  "Nice work, Asif," she says.  Asif has called for an ambulance, and Mo goes to tell Pat.  As she approaches Pat's house, she spies Frank leaving furtively.
