New Skills and Specializations

The following skills are used by characters in the NieA Under Seven series. Most, however, are also useful in many other BESM game settings. The point costs given for the new skills are for the "Teenage Romance" genre, but they can be adjusted for whatever genre the skills are being used in.

Skills

Fire-building

Cost: 2 point/Level
Relevant Stat: Mind
Specialization: Arson, Campfire, Fireplace, Furnace
The ability to start fires efficiently, with just the right amount of fuel, and to keep them burning safely—or to predict how they will “go out of control” if the fire is intended to be purposefully destructive.

Gardening

Cost: 1 skill point/Level
Relevant Stat: Mind
Specialization: Floral, Herbs, Lawn, Market, Ornamental, Vegetable
The ability to tend a garden or cultivate plants.

Scrounging

Cost: 2 skill points/Level
Relevant Stat: Mind, modified by Electronics or Mechanics.
Specialization: None
The ability to successfully recover reusable parts and components from damaged vehicles and equipment, or perhaps even pick edibles from the garbage.

Skill Specializations

These following are new specializations of skills detailed in Chapter Two of BESM 2nd Edition. They are suitable for most modern and science fiction settings.

Cooking: Inexpensive, Tea-Making

This specialization allows the character to know how and when to find the cheapest groceries and then turn them into a meal that is far tastier than the ingredience should allow for. Tea-Making not only allows the character to brew that perfect pot of tea, but also allows for knowledge of traditional Japanese tea ceremonies. (The actual tea ceremony is governed by the Performing Arts skill, but a high rank in tea-making may provide a bonus to the Performing Arts roll, at the GM's option.)

Computers: Websites

The character is skilled at building, programming, and maintaining web sites.

Cultural Arts: Bathhouse Etiquette

The character is familiar with the traditions surrounding Japanese public baths.

Electronics: UFO Control Systems

This specialization allows the character to build and repair guidance systems and other

Mechanics: Boilers, Furnaces, Heating Systems, UFO

The character can build and repair the specified types of equipment, using the rules described as part of the Mechanics skill description in BESM2.

Piloting: Small UFO

The character can fly UFOs that can hold the pilot and up to two passengers.
