Background and Personality Notes: Dragonbait is a humanoid dinosaur-like being who served the god of justice on his homeworld. He was drawn into events on Aber-Toril surrounding the being who eventually became the hero known as Alias. He has remained on the world ever since, guarding a small community of saurials in a hidden location known as the Lost Vale. He has known Veya for a couple of years, and since Cormyr was the first nation on Aber-Toril in which he made friends, he has something of a soft spot for the kingdom. Therefore, he joined the half-elfs efforts to see what might be behind the mysterious threat. He is caring, kind, and patient, using his paladin abilities to fight for the cause of good and his friends.
Dragonbait seems like the strong, silent type, never speaking and only responding with nods or shakes of his dragon-like head, or by springing into action. The truth is that Dragonbait cannot speak Common or any other humanoid languages, as his vocal chords and tongue cannot produce the sounds. However, he understands perfectly most of the common languages in Faerun. When he needs to communicate with someone, he activates the ring of spellstoring that he secured on one of his adventures. Dragonbait considers this a last resort, as he is never one to squander resources.
Dragonbait was created by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak. He first appeared in Azure Bonds, the first book in the "Finder's Stone Trilogy," set in the Forgotten Realms. The trilogy is currently out of print. The game version presented here was made using the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook, published by Wizards of the Coast. D20 adaptation by Steve Miller.
