Our Home.
In 1999, The Zwolle City Council, in conjunction with the local Housing corporations, and various developers acquired a large area of land, which was formerly a number of farms, on the bank of the Black Water, Together, with Vision, they are  developing an estate that combines living and recreation in a water based environment. They have called this housing Estate STADSHAGEN which will not be completed until the year 2005, when it will have it's own major shopping centre, Health, fitness, and sports centres serving a population of about 25,000, which is almost as great as that of the City itself.

Our Home is a first floor apartment in a block that was designed for senior citizens, and was built as part of the second phase of the development.

The development itself, is about 10 minutes drive from the City Centre and is served by a half hourly bus service that runs to and from the Station via the city centre and serves the estate on a circular route, with a stop opposite our block on the return leg of the circle.

Our block, is completely self contained with electronic self locking doors at the ground level, operated from within the flat by an intercom system.

The Flat entrance is through a large entrance hall, to the left of which there is a small guest room, and to the right, a small storage room containing the central heating boiler which is also used as a study. Further along the Hall is the door to our combined WC and Shower facility, and at the end is a door leading to our lounge. Off the lounge/diner, alongside the hall is our kitchen, and to the right of the lounge is the entrance to the Master Bedroom.

Both the Lounge and Master Bedroom are large by English standards measuring almost 4 metres wide by 5 metres in length. Both have large picture windows looking out across a rivulet called 'the Old Wettering' which runs through and round the estate across grassland to the main road. Entrance to our block from the main road is across one of two bridges.

The Development of the estate has and still does require extensive excavation work, and these excavations have revealed the existence of two middle age castles on the site. Archaological diggings are being carried out alongside the building excavations to preserve this important part of the City's history, at considerable expense to the City Council, which is very proud of it's heritage.

Our own apartment is not overlooked from any direction, and is too far from the road for anything to be seen through terylene net curtains. We are therefore able to live completely naked within the flat without fear of causing any offence to our neighbours.
