:: Location ::
Haunted High was relatively easy to find, even if you are unfamiliar with the area as I am. We
used the directions provided on the Haunted High Website and didn't have much trouble at all. The highways (75 N and Spur 503) were not busy, but
the street sign for Main St. was a little hard to see. However, once we made a U back to it
and went 5 blocks down Main as the directions tell you-you can't miss the three story school.
:: Price ::
$10 for adult admission, $6 for children 10 and under or $9 and $5 respectively with the $1off
coupon. I would have to say that paying the full price or the coupon price is definitely worth it.
I know how it sucks to pay $10-$15 for just a few minutes in even a really good haunted house.
The length of the journey through Haunted High is different for each group but I would say it's
definitely 25 minutes and up. When you are running for your life, it's hard to judge time-you know.
Haunted High also offers a Fast Pass which you pay $15 (adults or children) and get to surpass
the entire line and get right to the door. If waiting in lines isn't your thing, then the $15 ticket is
well worth it.
:: Atmosphere ::
Haunted High is located inside of a 44,000 square ft school which was built in 1914 and was last
used in 1986. The site itself dates back to 1873 when the first free school for the area was built.
The structure itself is quite beautiful, in a creep-you-out kinda way. Waiting in line is actually a
fun part of this haunt's experience. Adults will definitely enjoy looking at the architecture of the
old building while the younger set will enjoy seeing monsters peeking out of the windows
occasionally. The over-grown lawn creeping into the broken and cracked sidewalks adds to the
abandoned ambiance. As you wait, your fear and anticipation build while the sounds of screams
from inside (and people in line) with the buzz of a chainsaw nearby keep you company.
:: Haunting ::
Once you reach the door, you are greeted by your tour guide who will lead you through the
haunted high school. He/She explains the rules and answers your questions then walks you
through the front door. Once you are inside you are lead through a number of ghastly rooms
with horrors jumping out at you from every angle. You begin on the second floor at the principal's
office, make your way up to the third floor through haunted hallways-peeking through the empty
class rooms waiting for something to come after you, then finally make your way down to the
first floor. This is where your guide leaves you to fend for yourself and when you are wishing
you had bought that glow ball at the ticket stand.
This was my first time to visit this attraction, and I must say, I was excited from the get go. The
concept of using an abandoned school was very appealing to me. My mind went on a tangent
with visions of the different school themed rooms it might have. And while not every scene was
high school related, I was not left disapointed with scenes like the prom night massacre room
complete with screeching zombies in formal wear. I screamed several times during my walk
through and I am not that easily scared. You just never knew when someone was going to come
at you.
:: Photos ::

The photos I took with my digital didn't turn out too well, so I had to make this black and white for much to show up. Hopefully the photos I took with my zoom lense camera will look better.
:: Other Notes ::
Visit Haunted High's website by clicking on the banner.

2004 marks Haunted High's third year scaring the daylights out of new classes of students.
Feel free to visit even on rainy days because they do have a covered area available for the
wait line. All of the actor's inside are volunteers and seem to really enjoy making you pee
your pants. The proceeds are put back into the community by way of donations to charities such as Christmas & Back to School Shopping Sprees, A/C & Fan Drives, Scholarships, Denison Little League, Crime Stoppers, County Shelter and many other organizations.
:: Rating ::
Where Haunted High lacks in special effects (animatronics, etc), it makes up in fright and gore
with a high number of actors coming out of the cracks everywhere. Overall, I enjoyed the
experience immensely and plan to return next year.
