On June 30, America's National Technological University will confer its Master of Science Degree on Ajchara Simphliphan who completed a graduate program of study in Mechanical Engineering while working full time in Thailand.

In a brief ceremony at Ajchara's company,
FASL (Thailand) Ltd., Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an, Executive Vice-president of Chulabhorn Research Institute and former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of University Affairs, will present the Master of Science Degree to Ajchara on behalf of the President of National Technological University. Taking part in the ceremony will be Dr. Subin Pinkayan, former Minister of University Affairs, and Mr. Yuthana Hemungkorn, Managing Director of FASL (Thailand) Ltd. This happy event will be recorded on video-tape and sent to NTU, where it will be included in the university's annual Commencement Ceremony to be held on August 2, and broadcast to NTU member organizations throughout the United States and Asia.

NTU, a fully accredited American graduate institution, offers study in engineering, technology, science, and management through a distance learning approach that makes it possible for its students to study with outstanding professors teaching at top-ranked universities while remaining on the job. NTU offers master degrees and certificates of completion in 19 fields of study. The programs of NTU have been available in the Asia Pacific Region since 1996, and in 1999 the Civil Service Commission approved the academic credentials of Thailand's (and Asia's) first recipient of a master degree in Telecommunications Engineering) from NTU, Taweechai Suksithpornchai. A second graduate, Chrisada Wongwiriyapark, received his Master Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2001.

Hundreds of organizations and institutions in the U.S. and abroad are members of the NTU network, providing their employees with access to nearly 1,300 courses taught on the campuses of 54 of America's leading universities, including many of the top engineering institutions in the country; for example, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech, Cornell U., Purdue U., University of California at Berkeley, University of Wisconsin, etc.

Students participate in courses offered on campuses of member universities through
internet online, CD-ROM, and video instruction. They interact with professors and other students through the Internet, e-mail, or fax, and must complete all assignments and examinations at the same standard as on-campus students.

Khun Ajchara, who received a scholarship from her employer, earned her degree in just over two years, majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Design and Manufacturing Systems while working full time as an Principle Engineer at FASL (Thailand) Ltd. She took courses with outstanding professors at 9 universities, including Columbia University, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
