คุณกฤษณ สุจริตพงศ์

มหาบัณฑิตคนใหม่ ผู้สำเร็จการศึกษาทางไกลจาก National Technological University ในพ.ศ.2547 นี้

คุณกฤษณ สุจริตพงศ์ เป็นนักศึกษาคนล่าสุดที่สำเร็จการศึกษาในหลักสูตรทางไกลจาก National Technological University ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และเป็นคนไทยคนที่ 4 ของประเทศไทยและภูมิภาคเอเซียแปซิฟิก ที่สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญามหาบัณฑิต จากมหาวิทยาลัยที่จัดการศึกษาทางไกล โดยคุณ กฤษณ ได้สำเร็จการศึกษาในสาขา Electrical Engineering ด้าน Power System ด้วยคะแนนเฉลี่ย 3.5+

Starting out in September of 1999, Krisana Sutcharitphong wasn’t sure how this master degree by distance stuff would work out, but now, in November 2003, he has no doubt that it is the only way to do it. An engineer with the Metropolitan Electric Authority, Krisana didn’t want to leave his job, but he also wanted to expand his knowledge. So NTU was his choice. 4 years, 11 courses, and 33 credits later, Khun Krisana has achieved his goal. He’s just completed a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering (concentration in Power Engineering) and didn’t miss a day of work getting there. His grades? Well, altho the official transcript has not yet been released, we have heard that he’s in the 3.5+ range – competing wonderfully with all those hotshots on campus.

Our NTU crew had a chance to chat with Khun Krisana about his experience. He had some very interesting thoughts to share.

Q : What was it like, working full time and taking graduate courses at the same time?
A : I really enjoyed the chance to expand my knowledge, taking courses that I liked and learning new things.

Q : It took you nearly 4 years to complete your degree. Isn’t that a long time?
A :No, I think taking one course each term was quite appropriate. The courses were not easy, and to succeed, it was necessary to understand the lectures and complete the assignments within the time limit set. For me, taking more than one course per term would have had a negative impact on my work, would have been stressful, and I wouldn’t have had time to think deeply about what I was learning. The way I did it wasn’t burdensome, but it was important for me to manage my time carefully.

Q : Managing your time? How did you do that?
A : I worked during the daytime, played sports in the evening to keep fit, and then later on in the evening turned to the lectures, did my assignments, and read the text.Weekends and holidays were great for study since I wasn’t worn out from work.But anytime I had a chance, I would spend it studying. I don’t like to waste time.

Q : What did you like most about your studies?
A : I enjoyed the chance to think, and to analyze systematically and holistically. It’s hard to find opportunities to learn in this manner. I really loved the assignments that gave me a chance to solve real problems and to test my understanding. The lectures were great – they always stimulated me to follow up on the topic.

Q : Which course - or courses - did you enjoy the most?
A : That’s really hard to say. Every course was great for me, since I spent a lot of time considering which courses to take before registering for them – I would compare the course descriptions, consider the course requirements, the relative difficulty or ease, the suitability for me, what I would get out of it, and so on.

Q : Was your study program valuable for your work needs?
A : Well, even while some courses might not have been directly relevant to my job, my study program has enabled me to become more analytical and systematic in my thinking, and able to understand and solve problems more quickly. This has had a significant impact on my work. I am much more focused and determined, and less likely to be discouraged by obstacles.

Q : You seem to have benefited quite a bit from your experience. Didn’t you meet with any problems?
A : Problems? Of course! The courses are at and advanced level, and quite difficult. There were times when I would be unable to understand some concept, and even after thinking about it carefully, I’d need help. Sometimes I’d consult my professor, by e-mail, or discuss the problem with my Thai mentor, but in the end I’d have to find the solution on my own. And this has made me so much more self-reliant!

Khun Krisana, all we can say is, thanks for thinking NTU was wonderful. We think you are wonderful, too!

Q : ทำงานด้วยเรียนไปด้วย โดยลงเทอมละ 1 วิชา ใช้เวลาเรียนทั้งหมด 4 ปี คิดว่าเป็นระยะ เวลาที่เหมาะสมหรือไม่
A : คิดว่าเป็นระยะเวลาที่เหมาะสม เนื่องจากการเรียนในแต่ละวิชาสำหรับผมนั้นคิดว่า ยากมาก ๆ กว่าจะผ่านไปได้เพราะเนื่องจากการดู Lecture แล้ว ยังต้องรีบทำการบ้านที่อาจารย์มอบหมายให้เสร็จทันตามที่อาจารย์กำหนด หากเรียนมากกว่า 1 วิชา ใน 1 เทอม อาจทำให้เกิดผลเสียในเรื่องของงาน เกิดความเครียดเพราะพักผ่อนน้อยและใช้ความคิดไม่เต็มที่ในแต่ละวิชา

Q : เรียนไปด้วย ทำงานไปด้วย เป็นภาระหนักไหม
A : ไม่เป็นภาระหนัก เนื่องจากมีความสนใจในการเรียนวิชาที่ได้ลงไปเป็นอย่างมาก ทำให้คิดว่าเป็นเรื่องสนุกที่ได้เรียนรู้เรื่องใหม่ ๆ ทำให้สมองได้รับการพัฒนาอยู่ตลอดเวลา แต่ต้องพักผ่อนให้เพียงพอและออกกำลังกายบ้าง การเรียนไปด้วยทำงานไปด้วยทำให้รู้สึกว่ามีความสุขที่ได้ใช้เวลาอย่างคุ้มค่า ไม่เสียดายเวลาที่ผ่านไป

Q : มีการแบ่งเวลาอย่างไร
A : แบ่งเวลาโดยตอนกลางวันไปทำงาน ตกเย็นเล่นกีฬาบ้างนิดหน่อยเพื่อให้ร่างกายสดชื่น จากนั้นก็ดู Lecture ทำการบ้าน อ่านหนังสืออย่างเป็นระบบ เสาร์กับอาทิตย์หรือวันหยุดเป็นเวลาอ่านหนังสือที่ดีมาก เพราะไม่เหนื่อยจากการทำงาน แต่สรุปแล้วคือถ้าว่างเมื่อไหร่ต้องหยิบหนังสือขึ้นมาอ่านจะไม่ปล่อยเวลาให้ผ่านไปโดยเปล่าประโยชน์

Q : สนุกกับการเรียนในลักษณะใด (ตรงไหนที่สนุก)
A : สนุกกับการเรียนที่เป็นการใช้ความคิดวิเคราะห์อย่างเป็นระบบและเป็นบูรณาการ ซึ่งการเรียนการสอนในลักษณะนี้หาได้ยาก มีความสุขมากที่ได้คิดแก้ปัญหาการบ้าน ซึ่งเป็นการทดสอบความเข้าใจในเนื้อหาวิชาของเรา อย่างแท้จริง รวมทั้งการดู Lecture ก็เป็นเรื่องที่สนุกและน่าติดตามเนื้อหาในตอนต่อ ๆ ไปเป็นอย่างยิ่ง

Q : ชอบวิชาอะไรบ้าง และชอบวิชาใดมากที่สุด
A : ถามว่าชอบวิชาอะไรมากที่สุด จริง ๆแล้วชอบทุกวิชาเพราะก่อนลงทะเบียนเรียนนั้น คิดแล้วคิดอีกว่าจะเรียนวิชานี้ดีหรือไม่โดยเปรียบเทียบกับวิชาอื่น ๆ แล้วจึงเลือกวิชาที่เหมาะสมกับเรามากที่สุด ทั้งในด้านเนื้อหา ความยาก-ง่าย ประโยชน์ที่ได้รับต่อการงานในอนาคต ความอยากรู้อยากเห็นของตนเอง

Q : เรียนแล้วเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการทำงานอย่างไร
A : การเรียนในแต่ละวิชาที่จริงแล้วก็ไม่ได้คิดว่าจะเป็นประโยชน์โดยตรงต่อการทำงาน แต่ผลที่ได้อย่างมากคือ ทำให้เป็นคนที่มีการวิเคราะห์ที่เป็นระบบ มองทุก ๆ สิ่งมีความสัมพันธ์ซึ่งกันและกัน หรือมีผลกระทบต่อกัน เมื่อทำงานแล้วทำให้เข้าใจในเรื่องต่าง ๆ เพราะสมองได้รับการฝึกฝนมาเป็นอย่างดี และที่ผลที่ได้รับอีกอย่างคือ ทำให้คนมุมานะพยายาม ไม่ย่อท้อต่ออุปสรรค

Q : ปัญหาในการเรียนมีหรือไม่ แก้ไขอย่างไร
A : ปัญหาในการเรียนมีแน่นอน เพราะเป็นการเรียนที่ลึกซึ้ง ต้องใช้ความเข้าใจอย่างมาก แต่บางครั้งต้องใจเย็น ๆ ค่อย ๆ แก้ปัญหาในเวลาที่พักผ่อนอย่างเพียงพอเป็นเวลาเช้า ถ้าไม่ได้จริง ๆแล้วอาจถามผู้ที่เชี่ยวชาญในวิชานั้น ๆ เช่นเขียน E-mail ไปหาอาจารย์ผู้สอนโดยตรง แต่อาจรับคำตอบที่ไม่ใช่เป็นการบอกตรง ๆ ต้องกลับมานั่งคิดแล้วคิดอีก ซึ่งดีมากๆ ทำให้เรามีความมุมานะพยายามในการคิด หรืออาจสอบถามผู้รู้ที่เป็นคนไทยซึ่งทาง NTU ให้เป็น Menter แต่ในที่สุดต้องแก้ปัญหาด้วยตัวเองให้ได้
