| It's December 1914, the beginning of World War 1. Germany is at war with great britain. Youn men are forced to fight for their country. They are indoctrinated with hatred and ordered to kill on command. Lives are lost as though they mean nothing. The once beautiful French countryside is now filled with craters and dead bodies. Seemingly nothing short of surrendder will put a halt to the atrocities of war, until one fateful morning. Christmas morning; the two sides, hesitantly, call a ceasefire in order to celebrate the holiday. Soldiers are allowed to integrate with the other side. The soldiers exchange gifts, show each other photographs, and take part in an eventful soccer match; they become friendly with one another and realize that they are not all that different. At sundown, the fighting is to resume. The soldiers, however, have something else in mind. Refusing to fight their newly found friends, the soldiers strike. The commanders leave them with one fateful choice: fight, or be executed. Their only chance of survival is to fight for their country, against friends. |
