Goverment
of India has set up the National Technical Manpower Information
System (NTMIS) towards the end of 1983, with view to generating and
maintaining a reliable data and information base needed for planning
and administration of technical education on proper lines. NTMIS
also marks the climax of a series of options the Government of India
exercised in the planning and administration of technical education
and training in the country.
The
objectives assigned to the System include estimation of short-term
and long term requirements of various categories of engineers and
technical manpower and their supply, identification of anticipated
gaps in demand and supply positions and also asses the adequacy of
current enrolment rate in respect of each of the engineering and
technical manpower categories. The System comprises a Lead Centre at
the Institute of Applied Manpower Research ( I.A.M.R) Delhi, a
Manpower Cell in the All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE) New Delhi and 20 Nodal Centres spread all over the country
of which four are located in the four Regional Boards of
Apprenticeship Training.
