Story:

Yuki and Shuichi

Yuki

Gravitation is a story about Gravity.... Okay... maybe more about how opposites attract (Maybe it should have been called Magnetism?), it's also a story about perseverance, struggle and success.  Yuki Erie  is a cold, rude, arrogant author who just happens to be hot Hot HOT!  Shindo Shuichi  is a sweet, emotional, sometimes idiotic pink haired singer with a voice to die for who is trying to make it as a musical artist like his idol Sakuma Ryuichi the lead singer from Nittle Grasper!  These two meet and its love at first site.  Well...actually, Yuki slams Shuichi's lyric writing talents and makes Shuichi cry.  Later the emotionally traumatized Shuichi confronts Yuki on a busy street.  Actually he runs in front of his car and Yuki decides to stop rather than running the bothersome kid over.  Anyway...from there things get very interesting.  Yuki isn't interested in boys.  Shuichi is falling in love with Yuki...and why is Yuki (who isn't interested in boys...I established that already!) kissing Shuichi in an elevator...?   Oooooooh....this is very interesting....very interesting.  Want to learn more?  Watch it yourself.

Note:  Gravitation is a Shonen Ai series (in case you couldn't tell!) and it does deal with Male/Male situations.  It is mostly laughing, and singing (some great songs too!) and Yuki criticizing Shuichi and Shuichi crying or getting drunk or wearing funny costumes... It's a blast... However it also has some very intense stuff, some deeply emotional moments that give incite into why Yuki is such a good looking pain in the... well you get the point.

13 episodes.

Further Note: There is also a two part OVA with all the characters.  The characterizations are a little different but overall the story is still very true to the format of the original 13 episodes.

Art:

Ryuichi

The art of Gravitation (the Anime) is clean and crisp.  The characters are very nice eye-candy.  Yuki with his blond hair and golden eyes is hot.  Shuichi with his violet eyes compliment his pink hair (in the OVA Shuichi's eyes are green...like in the Manga) is really cute.  I like the clean style of the anime over the manga.    The back grounds are great.  The costuming is fun, some of Shuichi's and Sakuma Ryuichi stage costumes are...wow! BTW it takes to about Manga issue three for the characters to look like how they look in the Anime...wierd

Sound:

Bad Luck

The music for Gravitation is just great.  Unlike another Music based anime that I won't talk about here... Gravitation actually has quite a few songs that get done through out the series.  The opening and closing songs are just great.  Nittle Grasper also sings in the series.  Musically this series is so far with out compare.

Presentation:

Ryuichi

The characters are recognizably different in build and appearance from each other.  If you like the Manga style then the drawing style of the Anime may seem a bit off.  Since in the anime the art is as stated very clean and crisp...not sketchy as it is in the Manga.  My preference is the Anime.

Personal Note:

Kiss

Gravitation is one of my favourite Anime series.  This story is a make me laugh/make me cry kind of story.  It appeals to my Yaoi-girl soul in that it is a m/m story that though light in the Yaoi side of things with just kissing and some off scene making out, it still manages to strike all the right buttons for me.

The only regret I have with Gravitation is that it isn't long enough!

Rating Score:

9.75/10

Availability:

Gravitation in individual DVD's and a complete Box Set is available in the US and Canada

Language:

? (Unknown as of yet - assuming English Dub and also Japanese dialogue W/English subtitles.  Songs likely left as is in Japanese Dialogue/w English subtitles whether dubbed or not...after all part of the strength of Gravitation is the excellent songs created for the anime itself.)
