The Legend of the Blue Wolves (A.K.A The Legend of the Four Horsemen) is Yaoi in the extreme.  There isn't much that is sweet and gentle about this Anime, it is graphic...violent and right in your face.  This anime goes the full nine-yards (if you are lucky enough to get the unedited version).  You see details in this Yaoi anime that you just don't see in any other (and I've seen a few) even if you are unfortunate enough to get an edited version the editing is simply to cloud over the nasty bits...and you can generally see past the cloud unlike some other Yaoi anime where the distort or fuzz out the details which tends to damage the surrounding details and kind of make the whole anime somehow less satisfying.

Of course, there is more to TLotBW than yaoi action. The Blue Wolves has all the making of an epic series, the lead is some kind of super soldier (even though he's the yuke-bottom), it has mechs for you mech lovers, it's military based for you military & mech lovers. The story is told in flashback from the PoV of Second Lieutenant Jonathan Tyberius who is getting ready to fight a battle against the aliens called the Apocalypse. (What the Apocalypse look like I don't do, however they takes humans captured in battle -- rape their minds (destroying their human soul) and integrate them into their mech craft as the "brain" of the weapon, and then these integrated bio-mechs go out and start killing their fellow humans.) The story opens with Jonathan being tested for a new type of mech, then it goes off into Jonathan getting suited up for the battle...and finally from his memory comes why he fights. It's to honour a promise he made to his friend and lover Second Lieutenant Leonard Schteinberg. In his flash back Jonathan recalls Ganymede base, where he was stationed for training. From the onset he stupidly blunders into a mech mock-battle and nearly gets himself killed. The lead officer of the training run first determines that Jonathan is safe, then punches him for getting into such a stupid situation. The lead officer of the training run is none other than Second Lieutenant Leonard Schteinberg, who Jonathan finds himself bunking with once he reports to the base. Unfortunately for Jonathan he also immediately incurs the unwanted attention of the bases Captain Continental, a disgusting tub of lard of a man who uses a quirt (small horse-type whip) as an extension of his arm, orders everyone to address him as SIR with every response...not just YES SIR...but SIR, YES SIR...and is determined that every pretty man in the army service...er I mean serve under him...way under him, like beneath him while he's grunting and groaning and heaving over their back. Captain Continental goes after Jonathan with a vengeance, but Jonathan spurns his advances while at the same time his friendship with Leonard is growing stronger...though nothing sexual yet. Finally the Captain frames Jonathan as a spy in an attempt to have some quality time with the lieutenant, he also sees to it that Leonard is put in solitary confinement to make sure Leonard can't interfere. Anyway...things happen. I don't want to tell it all. At any rate, there are 3 sexual scenes in this story. The first involves the tub of lard and one of his subordinates...YUK. The second is a rape scene...guess. The final is a beautiful consummation of Jonathan and Leonard's love. Watch the anime.

Format: 45min ANIME

Rating: 9/10
Art:

The art for TLotBW is pretty fine, the details are all very sharp and clean, Jonathan is very cute, Leonard is very handsome, the pig is a pig...the base looks like a base, the outside scenery is very nice and the battle scenes and mechs look very impressive.  The attention to fine detail is incredible and you will be very pleased with what you see.  (whether edited or not)
Rating: 9/10
Sound:

The sound is excellent (I'm not big on music or anything... but it fits)

Rating: 8/10
Presentation: As stated the details are very sharp, each character is very much an individual.  These characters are as well rounded and believable as is possible in a 45 min episode.
Rating: 10/10
Personal Note:

I like TLotBW, the sense you get from this ANIME is that there should be more to it.  I mean it is epic.  It has a title that says Legend of the Blue Wolves...but it does kind of leave you wondering...who are the BLUE WOLVES...sure Jonathan is one of them...but who are the rest?  What this anime wants is more episodes.  Maybe if enough people indicate their desire to see more of the BLUE WOLVES (specifically unedited) the powers that be will consider developing the rest of the series...because you just know that there's more of it out there.

Rating Score:

9/10

Availability: Unknown at this time.  I have however heard rumours that it is being released to the North American market in unedited state.  Cool!  Keep your fingers crossed, when I know more, I will update this page with how and where to find it.
