  Awaken Lion

Awaken Lion's music is deeply influenced by the spiritual and social messages in the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, and Luciano. His inspirational lyrics relate strongly to the struggles of African people in Canada, taking on such topics as the police brutality seen in the Ottawa police slaying of Vincent Gardener, an act to which Lion was firsthand witness.

Growing up in Jamaica, Lion first practiced his rhymes at school, and recognition of his singing abilities eventually earned him guest vocalist spots on various sound systems. He delved into songwriting, chatting about reality subjects, his concern for the plight of the oppressed growing as his career progressed.

Lion first came to the attention of North American reggae fans with his regular performances and subsequent recordings with Bingie Barker and Ragamuffin, Ottawa's premiere reggae band. His smash hit Gentle Jah Jah burnt up local reggae charts, and soon Lion was back in the studio recording his debut album. Most recently, he was recruited by Canadian Reggae Music Award winners Jah Cutta and Determination Band to perform as a feature singer in the Montreal band's live shows.
