Klydel Wetland Flooding on April 8, 2000

Northern section- Birch, Fairfield, Raymond, and Ruie Roads

The City of North Tonawanda sewers were filled to capacity on April 8, 2000. The City was forced to bypass the sewage treatment plant and dump raw sewage into the Niagara River via a bypass pump at the intersection of Nash & Walck Roads. This occurs due to combined sanitary/storm sewer overflows during heavy precipitation events. North Tonawanda has suffered a drought for the past two years, but these "bypass events" happened 9 times in the 2 years prior to January 1997.
