Welcome to my Betta Obsession

Welcome to my obsession. Like many people that might visit these pages, I bought a betta and so started my obsession with these beautiful personable fish. I am always doing research and looking for more and more information, and on my pages I attempt to share that information with you. I have had trouble finding reliable information and I know that I can't be the only one having trouble, so I would like to help those who like me are in the quest for knowledge on something so beautiful and intelligent as my Bettas. Some of what I have found sounds just plain goofy, and makes no common sense, but I give it a try anyway and it seems to work wonders. Other times it sounds off the wall yes, but not to terribly difficult and then I try it and it works but not the way it is expected. Thru much trial and error I have found that there are certain things that work for me and I want YOU to have the benefit of that experience. But be cautioned, just because it works for me, doesn't mean it works for you so even though you try what I do you may not get the same results that I get.

Right now I do not show Bettas, no do I own a show quality Betta. All of mine are veil tails (I will refer to them as VT from this point on, that is the proper way to shorthand it I am told..*LOL*). I am breeding presently to get the color I want from a line that I completely bred on my own. I have never been one to shun work and this is work; there is no if, and, or buts about that. So before you get started on your breeding program, or even just owning this magnificent fish, I want you to see what kind of work you are getting into. I had no clue, but my obsession has taken over and no matter the cost I go on. Breeding bettas is a costly venture as you will be able to tell when you read my spawn log pages. Many people I have spoken to on the internet has and continues to give me excellent advice. They are too numerous to name, but I would also like to give you the opportunity to learn from them. I will give you their webpages and the club links, it is up to you to join and participate and learn from these breeders/experienced aquarist/fish keepers.

I always like to hear from people, to trade information and help when I can, so please feel free to use the link at the bottom of the page to email me whenever you feel it necessary. If I don't know the answer I would do my best to get you in touch with someone who does. Why would I do this? To improve the quality of the Bettas. What we buy now in the local fish stores (lfs) is not always healthy or bred to be nothing more than a temporary. Ever wondered why your betta in those awful vases die? Because they don't eat what your instructed to feed them. They are carnivorous, not vegetarians. So first off, you need to feed your fish certain foods that are just for them, such as the betta pellets. It has more of the nutrition's that they need to stay healthy and just survive but to thrive. There are certain live food cultures that do well for them such as micro worms, vinegar eels, baby brine shrimp and grindal worms. You can find safe cultures on the net for the worms and eels and I will give you links for how to do baby brine shrimp (bbs). Personally at the time I am typing this page, I can't make the bbs work for me. Can't get them to hatch, but there are others on here that can and do that have pages up telling you how to do it.

I have a seperate page for my links to pages for help and for different forums, clubs and such as that, and then for my spawn logs. With my spawn logs the first page is my mistakes, I want to share what I did wrong and cost me not one but 3 spawns of fry. Then I will tell you what I did right and how I am getting my current spawns fry and keeping them healthy. I uploaded pics of my Bettas, and I will be adding my other fish to the album later, to webshots. I invite you to click the pics button and take a look. Yahoo! didn't offer me enough space for the photos that I want to share with you so I find it easier to put it at Webshots and let you take it from there. Once again, if you have any questions email me. There is a link on every page to email me if you feel a need.
