Chapter 6:Chance Meeting
Lance sighed as he sped through the scenery, hardly paying attention to anything. His world had been so dull lately, that he was constantly looking for something to spice it up. He really had no life anymore. Once you've been to space, you've done everything... Lance recalled Justin saying to him in his mind. Justin was right. There was nothing more exciting to Lance anymore. Needing a bit of fresh air, Lance had decided to go for a speed drive in an area cops were known to never patrol because nothing ever happened.
*^*Julia's Car*^*
Julia sped along the road, feeling worn out from a hard day's work. Ashley's dad had hired her at his indoor flower shop & even though today was her first day, it was more like hell that she had expected. Now that she was finally off from work, all she could think to do was go for a drive. Looking at the road in front of her, she saw a car starting to come into her lane. She quickly blew her horn, making the person inside the car snap to attention & swerve from her lane, momentarily losing control of his or her car. She slammed on her breaks, her brakes locking, making her tires hold as they skidded on the road, leaving marks behind. She heard brakes squealing behind her as she watched the car that was now behind her slide sideways then come to a jerking stop a few centimeters away from a telephone pole. "Oh my gosh..." She quickly undid her seat belt & got out of her car, walking to the other car, watching the silhouette of a person inside moving a little bit before the car door finally opened.

Lance stumbled out of his car & walked over to Julia. "Ma'am, are you okay? I am so sorry about that. I zoned out for the moment," he apologized.
"It's alright. Are you okay sir? Your car sort of jerked to a harsh stop," Julia said, not even taking notice of who he was.
"I'm okay, a little shaken up. Are you sure you're alright ma'am?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Are you sure you're sure?"
"Yeah." Lance ran his shaky fingers through his hair, looking at her as a sudden small zephyr blew her about for a moment before leaving just as quick as it had come.
"Would you like to lean against your car for a moment?"
"Yea, that would be nice."
The two walked over to Lance�s car & he leaned against it, running his fingers through his hair again. �Oh god, I am so sorry about all this.�
�It�s okay sir,� Julia said. Suddenly she realized who he was & had to stop herself from screaming out in shock. I almost got in an awful wreck with Lance BassShe thought to herself as she looked him over for any marks of damage.
�Honestly ma�am,� he assured her. �It�s okay.� Lance looked up at Julia & saw tears in her eyes. �What�s wrong? Are you hurt?�
Julia shook her head to say no. �I�m just a little shaken up.�
�Is there anything I can do to comfort you?�
�Would it be too much to ask if you could hold me?�
�No, not at all.�
Julia stepped closer to him & pressed against him as his arms snaked around her, his soft hands gently rubbing her back. She sniffled & closed her eyes, listening to his soft heartbeat.
They stood like that for a few moments until Julia lifted her head & Lance looked down at her.
�Are you okay now?� he asked, letting his hand stop in the small of her back.
Julia nodded. �Yea, I�m okay now. I guess that was all I needed. I just got so scared about what the outcome of the accident might have been.�
�If both or either of us died I�m sure our families would die as well.�
�Mine would. So would my friends, or lack there of.�
�You don�t have many friends?�
�I used to have a lot,� she sniffled as he let go of her & she stepped back a little.
�Well, would you mind if I asked you what happened?�
�I don�t want you to get the wrong idea of me.�
�I promise not to judge you unfairly if that�s what you mean.�
�Alright. Well, I used to be the popular girl at school� Well, there was this guy Matt who I had this huge crush on & somehow he found out. To make a long story short, he led me on to believe that he liked me, took advantage of me, & now my parents are going to be grandparents, & I�m only 18� When everyone found out that Matt & I had, well, you know, they steered clear of me. I guess my true friends came out that day. Now I only have two friends. They�ve stuck with me through all of this bull & now all I could think of when I first thought we were going to crash was �how the hell is my family going to handle this if I die?�� I honestly don�t know how they would��
Lance stared at her for a moment until it all registered in his mind. �Wow� That was totally wrong of him to do if you ask me. Are you okay?
�Sort of� I just don�t know how I�m dealing with it all��
�You�re very strong to put up with all of this. How far along are you?�
�I�m in my third month & I just found out last month.�
�Does this Matt guy know?�
�He doesn�t know yet.�
�Why don�t you tell him?�
�He�s got such great connections & I�m afraid of what he�ll do or have done to me if he finds out he got me pregnant that night.�
�You don�t actually think he�d do something to you, do you?�
�He�s been known to do some stupid stuff because someone�s pissed him off or he just didn�t like what they�ve told him.�
�But what�s the point in it?�
�I don�t know. No one knows but him..�
�Oh. By the way, pardon my rudeness, I�m Lance,� he said, extending his hand.
�I know,� she smiled, shaking his hand. �I�m Julia.�
�Julia? That�s a lovely name. Isn�t it Latin for youthful?�
�I think so,� she smiled.
�Well Julia, I have to get going & I�m sure you do as well, so even though we didn�t meet under the perfect circumstances, it was nice meeting you.�
�It was nice meeting you too Lance.�
�Hey Julia?�
�Yes?�
�You�re really nice, can I get your number or give you mine so we can keep in touch?�
�Sure.�
Lance reached into his back right pocket & took out his �Little Black Devil�s Book� as was written in gold cursive on the front black cover. He opened it & took out a small pencil from inside, turning to the �L� section, which didn�t have any numbers & handed her the book. �Here, just put your name & number down. I�ll call you later on if that�s okay with you.�
She took the book & wrote down her number. �Of course it�s okay with me,� she smiled. �I�ll just be sure to let my parents & brother know you�re calling so they won�t treat you with disrespect over the phone. Just tell them we met a few months back at a diner or someplace.�
�Are they mad at you for the whole thing?�
�No. They�re mad at Matt since they never really liked him.�
�Oh, alright. Bye Julia,� he smiled & got into his car.
Julia walked to her car & got in, driving home.
