Chapter 13:Trust Me
*^*Past Hour*^*
Julia walked up the steps of the familiar porch & felt the stomach twist into more knots than it had in a while. She had gone into the Jiffy when her mother dropped her off, only long enough to buy a drink for her two-mile walk that lay ahead. Matt's house was two miles away from the Jiffy & on the way over, Julia had called Ashley asking her to cover for her while she snuck out to visit an old friend, never saying who it was. Thankfully Ashley had consented & now here she was. She approached the door & knocked a few times, waiting for someone to answer. Finally the door opened & Matt stood behind it. "Hey," she smiled.
"Hey," he smiled back. "Come on in," he said, stepping back from the door, pulling it open wider.
Julia stepped inside, turning to face him as he shut the door behind her. "So, how did you get here?"
"I had mom drop me off at the Jiffy & then I walked here from thee, telling her I was spending the night with Ashley."
"Very mischievous of you," he smiled, stepping closer to her, only to have her back up slightly. He raised his brow at her. "Are you afraid of me Jules?"
"No."
"Then why did you just back away from me?"
"I'm not afraid of you Matt, I just don't know yet if I can trust you.."
"Trust me Jules... I'm not going to make the same mistake of pushing you away again. You deserve so much more than that & I'm sorry I ever inflicted that much pain on you. I had no right to ever treat you that badly & use you like I did. It's completely unforgivable, but it would be nice to know you could trust me again. So please Julia... Trust me."
"I don't know."
"Julia, I won't hurt you again. I promise."
Julia bit her lip thoughtfully, debating in her mind whether or not to believe him. She knew she shouldn't but her heart was screaming to trust him. Everything else was screaming to "stop!", "get away!", "run & don't look back!", but she ignored everything. Looking into those eyes of his had recaptured everything inside of her that missed him so. She didn't care anymore...she just wanted him. And now here he was, promising everything she wanted him to. She didn't see the glint that had frightened her before, only true & undying love in the eyes that were pleading with her to trust him.
"Will you trust me Julia?"
She looked at the floor for a moment, thinking quickly before she looked back up at him. "Yes... I'll trust you."
A smile lit his face & he stepped closer to her, wrapping his arms around her in a soft embrace. "Thank you Julia," he whispered into her ear. "This means everything to me. You have no idea at all..."
Julia smiled & hugged back, resting her head against his chest. "I have a small bit of an idea."
No you don't, he thought wickedly to himself as a smirk overcame the smile that lit his face.
