!Chapter Nine!

"Oh... Hey Ang," Chris said into the phone. "How are you?"

"I'm going good... And yourself?"

"Good..."

A silence filled the line as neither person knew what to talk about.

"So, your message said you wanted to talk to me about something?" Angela said, scratching her puppy, who had just jumped up on her lap, behind his ear.

"Yeah, I do. I wanted to talk about the engagement party..." Chris answered.

"What about it?"

"I know what you saw & I just wanted to apologize for it. I don't know what I was thinking that night. I'm so sorry for what you saw. I had no right to be kissing Emily like that, but she kissed me first & the few drinks I had had before you got there were in full motion & the next thing I knew I was getting smacked on the back of my head by Lance. By then, you were gone. I feel so stupid for hurting you like that Angela. Can you please forgive me? If you can't, then I'll completely understand."

There was a short silence before Angela spoke again. "Chris, I really don't know if I should. I mean, I've been hurt pretty bad before, & normally after blind dates I don't see the guys for anything more than two days after I 'convieniently' lose their numbers. But I don't like them because of how they put themselves out to me... But Chris...you made me feel wonderful when we got to talking. No one has been able to do that in the longest time. I'm just afraid of getting hurt again..."

"Angela, I swear to you I'll never hurt you again, intentionally or not. You mean too much to me. I thought I'd never find someone who wasn't a fan at my age. Let alone someone as great & wonderful as you are. You amaze me Angela. And I wish I could take back the stupid mistake I made of kissing Emily. And she meant nothing to me. Pease believe me Angela. I never meant to hurt you."

Angela smiled to herself, hearing the truth & sinceraty in his voice. Just go for it, her mind told her. He's being true, he won't hurt you again. He hadn't meant for the first time to even happen... "Alright Chris," she finally spoke. "I'll give you one more chance... But if you hurt me again..."

"I won't. I promise."

"So, um, see you at the wedding?"

"How about tomorrow for lunch? Or are you busy?"

"I'm not busy that I know of," Angela answered, smiling a little to herself.

"Would you like to go out to lunch with me then?"

"Sure... Want to meet somewhere or were you going to pick me up?"

"I'll pick you up. I've already got a place in mind, just let me know what time's good for you & I'll pick you up."

"Um, what is tomorrow anyway?"

"Wednesday, why?"

"Oh shoot, I have to work tomorrow. I get off at four in the afternoon if that'd be okay."

"It'd be more like a dinner than a lunch, but that'll be fine."

She could hear the smile in his voice & smiled to herself. "Alright, so if you wouldn't mind picking me up at work then that'd be perfect."

"Where do you work?"

"Bellsouth. Can you make sure to be like two or three minutes early so they won't try to keep me overtime?"

"Sure," he smiled.

"See you then Chris," Angela smiled.

"See you then Ang," Chris smiled.

Angela hung up when Chris did & smiled to herself as she turned on the phone again & dialed Caitlin & Lance's number. Finally after a few rings, Lance picked up the phone.

"Hey Lance, is Cait around?" Angela asked.

"Yes she is. Is this Ang?" Lance asked.

"Yep. Hey PooFu," Angela giggled. "How are ya?"

"I'm doing good, you?"

"Just got off the phone with Chris & I promised Cait that when I got off the phone with him & I promised Cait I'd call her when I did."

Lance chuckled. "How did things work out?"

"Last I checked sweetie, you're not Cait," Angela giggled. "And I don't think you have the equipment o be Cait... Unless there's something you're not telling us all," Angela said, joking.

"Trust me I got my own equipment," Lance chuckled.

Angela heard Cait ask in the backround who it was followed by Lance telling her. Angela heard Cait ask what he was talking to her about & after Lance told her, Cait got on the phone. "Trust me girl, he does got his equipment," Caitlin giggled into the phone.

"Oh gross girl, I did not need to know that about Lance," Angela false gagged into the phone.

Caitlin giggled. "So did you call Chris?"

"Yes."

"And?!"

"And we're going to meet for a lunch-slash-dinner tomorrow when he picks me up when I get off work."

"So I take it he's going to give you a ride to work the morning after? Or are you going to walk to work so you won't have to worry about your car?"

"I'm going to walk."

"Coolness. So I take you & him are dating?"

"We're not exactly dating Cait," Angela giggled, the feeling of a thin blush creeping up her cheeks.

"Not yet."

"Oh hush you," Angela said, blushing more.

"Anyway, Lance & I were kinda busy making some last minute plans for the wedding so I gotta let you go. You have fun tomorrow with Chris."

"I will."

"And don't do anything Lance & I wouldn't do."

"I would comment, but I'm afraid of what you might do next time you see me," Angela giggled. "Bye girl."

"Bye Ang."

Angela hung up when Cait hung up & sighed, walking upstairs to her room. Pulling out her nightclothes from her closet, Angela walked into the bathroom, setting the clothes down on a small shelf.

-later-

After a nice, long, relaxing shower, Angela was just stepping out when the doorbell rang. "Oh shit..." she mumbled, wrapping a towel around herself. She ran downstairs & opened the door a crack, peaking only her head out to see Chris. "Hey Chris, what are you doing here?"

"You called me & then didn't say anything," Chris answered.

"Pardon?"

"Didn't you call me about ten minutes ago?"

"No... I was um, in the shower..."

"Oh... Sorry about this. I just got worried when no one answered the line & your number showed on the Caller ID. I thought something was happening to you or already had, so I came when you didn't say anything after about two minutes."

Angela smiled a little. "Thanks for worrying about me Chris. I'm flattered."

"Um... I guess I should get going then... Since everything's okay & all."

Angela thought she heard a small hint to ask him to stay for a little, so she decided to go with it. "Actually, if you want, you can come in & stay for a little while. I really wouldn't mind the company since I'm always alone," she smiled.

Chris smiled a little bit. "Are you sure?"

"Mmhm... I really wouldn't mind the company. Just come on in. I need to go upstairs & get dressed. I'm almost wearing my birthday suit," she giggled, walking away from the door as he walked in.

Chris watched her as she walked up the stairs & disappeared into an upstairs hall.
