!Chapter One!
"Lance, where are the keys to the Tracker?" Caitlin, Lance's girlfriend of six years asked, rummaging through her purse in hopes of finding the keys there.
Lance walked into the kitchen, where Caitlin was, & opened the nick-nack drawer & pulled out the keys to the Tracker. "You mean these keys?" he smiled, jingling them.
Caitlin turned around & looked at him. "Yes, those keys," she answered, walking to him & grabbed for the keys, only to have them escape from her grasp as lance
jerked them up.
"Uh-uuuuh..." he grinned, holding the keys above his head, out of her reach.
"Laaaance," Cait whined, "c'mon..."
"Why do you want the keys?"
"So I can go to the store..."
"Why are you going to the store?"
"To get some food from the house..."
"Are you going to get me anything?" he grinned, keeping the keys out of her reach.
"I won't if you don't give me those keys..." she warned, losing her patience due to the heat of the house since the A/C had recently broken & Lance hadn't
had the time to call a repair service out to the house.
"Oooohhh...snippy," he chuckled.
"James..."
"Okay, okay... I'll give you the keys if you give me something in return..."
"Do you have something in mind?"
"Mm-hm..."
"What?"
"You give me a big, fat kiss on the cheek."
"That's it?"
"Mm-hm... So, do we have a fair trade?"
"Yes..."
Lance smiled as Caitlin leaned up & kissed his cheek, grabbing the keys when he lowered them to her reach.
"Thank you James..."
"Mm-hm... Are you going to bring me back some cheese?"
"Yes..."
"Velveeta?"
"Yes..."
"Thank you baby."
"Yea, yea, yea..."
Caitlin grabbed her purse, the keys to the Tracker in her hand, & walked out of the kitchen & out the front door. The heat outside was almost unbearable as
Caitlin hurried to get into the Tracker. Once inside, she shut the door & started the Jeep, turning the Jeep's A/C on high, facing the vents on her face. She smiled & pulled out of the driveway, driving to the store.
-a few hours later-
A very hot & tired Caitlin dragged herself in the front door with a few bags in her hands. She walked past Lance, who was asleep on the couch, & into the
kitchen, setting the bags she had carried in on the island bar, sitting on a stool that was placed in front of it. She laid her head down, resting a moment, but fell asleep in the newly air-conditioned house. Apparently lance had called someone out to the house & gotten the A/C fixed while she was out.
The half-open front door swung open from a small breeze, slamming against the wall by the door, waking Lance up with a slight jolt. he got up & walked
outside, seeing the backseat of the Tracker filled up with bags of groceries, then walked back inside, walking into the kitchen to see Caitlin sitting on the
bar stool, leaning against the counter, her back moving up & down slightly to her light breathing. He smiled slightly & walked outside, bringing in the
groceries, a few bags at a time.
When Caitlin woke up, she noticed that she was no longer on the bar stool, leaning against the bar, but in the large upstairs bed that she shared with Lance. "How on Earth did I get up here?" she thought to herself as she sat up in the bed. The only thing that really stood out to her, was that she was cool & only in her undergarments. She quickly grabbed the sheet & pulled it over her, covering herself with it.
Spotting her clothes on the other side of the room, she got up & walked over to the chair they were laid on & quickly dressed, walking downstairs to look for
Lance. She spotted him outside mowing the lawn in only a pair of shorts & a wife beater, his boxers peaking over the edge of his shorts. To the side of
her, the phone rang & she picked it up. "Hello?"
"Hey, is this Cait?" a voice came over the line.
"Yes it is, may I ask who this is?" Caitlin asked, unsure of who was asking for her.
"It's Angela!" the voice came back, a slight pout able to be heard.
"Oh, hey Ang! What's up?"
"Eh, nothin much... Just bored... God single life sucks... You're lucky," Angela sighed.
Caitlin rolled her eyes. The girl had been single for such a long time that Caitlin had lost count of exactly how long & gave up trying to remember when she
actually got a headache from thinking too hard. "Then why don't you go out & find someone?"
"No one wants a girl like me... Boring, dull, not exciting..."
"That is not the way you are!"
"Apparently I am to every guy in the world..."
"Oh geez..."
"What?"
"Lance thinks you're funnier than hell when you get going!"
"Yea, that's only when I'm around people I know & I'm not uncomfortable with some new person or people staring at me, & trying to figure out if I'm the way
they think I might already be, when I'm not even close to their accusations."
"Ang..."
"Well, it's true..."
"Then how about you, me, & Lance, all go out tonight &-"
"No! You're not hooking me up with some friend of yours," Angela said, interrupting Caitlin mid-sentence.
"That's not the plan at all, now shut up & listen."
"Fine..."
"You, me, & Lance, all go out tonight & just chill somewhere."
"No hook-up surprises for me?"
"No hook-up surprises."
Angela sighed on the other line, "Fine..."
"Great!" Caitlin giggled.
"So, where are we meeting up at?"
"Um...movies?"
"Movies & no hook-up surprises?" Angela asked, suspicion in her voice.
"Yep."
"Okay..."
"Alright... I'll call you back with a time."
"Okay, bye Cait..."
"Bye Angela."
The two hung up & Caitlin waited a moment before a wicked grin spread across her face & she picked the phone back up, dialing a good friend's number.
"Hello?" a voice spoke into the line.
"Hey... Chris?" Caitlin grinned.
