Chapter 6: Coming Out
The guys all sat in JC's hotel room, exchanging glances to each other. The
only one missing was JC himself. He had barricaded himself in the bathroom
for the past half-hour. Everyone in the room was clueless, well, everyone but
Justin. He knew exactly what was going on. He just hoped that JC got out of
the bathroom soon before the others started to ask questions.
"Why are we here again?" Chris asked, getting impatient.
"We are here because JC arranged a meeting. He has something very important
to say,"Justin replied.
"He needs to get out of that damn bathroom and start talking,"Chris said
with a yawn. "It's getting late."
Lance and Joey weren't paying much attention to what was going on. Joey was
too caught up in some movie he was watching. Lance was also watching the
movie, but only for the purpose of curing boredom.
"I'll go see what's the hold up," Justin said as he got up from his seat on
the floor and walked to the bathroom door. He knocked gently upon it. "JC, it's Justin. May I come in?"
JC sat upon the toilet lid; his face was in his hands. He picked his head up
at the sound of Justin's voice. "Sure..." He unlocked the door for Justin to
come in.
Justin slipped into the bathroom and shut the door before locking it. He
knelt down beside the toilet and looked up at JC. "Are you okay?"
JC shook his head. Tears were evident on his cheeks. "I'm so scared, Justin.
You have no idea how scared I am right now."
"Maybe not, but I do know that you can't hide this from the guys any longer.
They're your friends. They deserve to know."
"I know, but it's just so hard. I don't think they'll be too accepting of
what I have to say," JC said as he wiped away his tears, but they were
replaced with fresh ones.
"You'll never know until you tell them."
"Justin, can you promise me something?"
"What?"
"Promise me that you won't reject me, even if the others do."
Justin smiled. JC needed him and he was glad to be there. "I promise."
JC wiped away his tears once more before getting up and going to the sink,
turning on the water. He quickly rinsed off his face before turning the water
off. Justin opened the door and walked out. He took his seat back on the
floor as JC walked out of the bathroom.
JC cleared his throat loudly, gaining the attention of the other four men in
the room. Joey turned off the TV and listened for what JC had to say.
"I'm sorry I kept you all waiting. I have something to tell you and I hope
it won't change your opinion of me after you hear it."JC paused, trying not
to chicken out again. ?"You guys, I'm gay."
The expressions on everyone's face, with the exception of Justin, showed
complete shock. The silence in the room was deafening and JC chewed on his
fingernails a bit to ease his nervousness a little.
"Wow, um..." Lance began, trying to find something to say. "I think it's a
bit of a surprise, but it doesn't change my opinion of you."
JC smiled. "Thanks Lance."
"No problem."
"I agree with Lance on that one,"Chris said. "It doesn't change my opinion
of you at all. You're still weird."
The guys all laughed, releasing some of the tension in the room. It all came
back though, when the laughing ceased and they all looked at Joey. He was the
one most likely to be upset about this. They all knew that. They just hoped
that in this case, Joey would be ok with it.
"So, you're a homo, huh?"Joey's words seemed to get under JC's skin.
"Yes, I am."
"Well, as long as you don't start prancing around in pink hot pants or
leaving the group to work at Chip 'N Dales anytime soon, I'm cool with it." Joey said with a chuckle.
JC couldn't help but smile. His friends were more understanding than he
thought. He was thankful for the friends and family he had. They were all
open-minded and understanding of his sexuality. "Thanks Joe."
"No problem."
JC felt relieved. He had no more secrets...ok, only one more secret, but he
didn't think that'd be a secret for long. JC's relationship with Justin had
become much closer. Coming out to the guys wasn't so hard after all.
