*NSYNC singer Joey Fatone (news) was on hand to help Hershey Foods unveil its new 15-story outdoor "chocolate factory" sign at the company's new store in New York City's Times Square (at 48th Street and Broadway) on Monday (October 28).
Fatone, who is currently starring in the Broadway musical Rent, hosted the lighting celebration on behalf of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (news - web sites). Fatone and his fellow Rent castmembers, along with Christopher Sieber (news) (Beauty And The Beast)and children from the casts of shows such as Les Miserables and Annie Get Your Gun, among others, performed as part of the celebration.
Fatone and company flipped an oversized light switch to illuminate the Hershey's sign, which is 215 feet tall and 60 feet wide, making it the largest permanent fixture ever constructed in Times Square. It contains 34 dimensional props, four steam machines, more than 4,000 chasing lights, 30 programmable gel lights, 56 neon channel letters, and 14 front-lit signs. The sign features an oversized Hershey chocolate bar, a light-up pyramid of Hershey Kisses with colors that change with the seasons, and a Jolly Rancher candy wind sculpture. In addition, steam flows out of the top of a giant Hershey's Cocoa cup.
