Formation
A JC Story

“5, 6, 7, and 8. 1, 2, push 3, 4, move 5, 6, 7, 8. No no no! Stop the music. This is simple guys. Just move from here to there in four counts.”
She said as she pointed. “Why can ya’ll get the intricate stuff, but you can’t do a simple formation change?”

Lance answered, not realizing it was a rhetorical question. “It’s just the music goes so fast.”

She pointed to JC and said, “Then blame it on him. He wrote it. I just put the dance moves to it.”

Chris wiped the sweat from his brow. “Can we take a break?”

She looked around the room and saw how tired everyone was. “Yeah, let’s take five, but when we get back we’re going to get the formation change down.”

All the guys grumbled as they went to sit down on the couches in the back of the dance studio. They all grabbed for a bottle of water out of the cooler, sitting next to the couches. She went out the door to go to the restroom down the hall.

“I swear,” Joey began, “she acts like we should be professionals at this.”

“Well,” Justin said as he grabbed for a towel, “after this long, we should be.”

“It’s just that she wants us to do things my body never knew it could do. Never knew it should do!” Joey continued.

"Guys, we always want fresh blood to choreograph stuff for us and she’s made up a great dance. We just have to give it a chance.” JC defended.

Lance laughed. “She is right. We’ve got the hard stuff down. Why can’t we get the formations?”

Joey sat up. “Because she wants me to move like 20 feet in four counts. It’s impossible!”

“Well, if you were in the right spot to begin with it wouldn’t be so hard.” JC joked.

Joey threw his empty water bottle at JC. “Shut up man! It’s easy for you since you just stand up front and sing. The rest of us are working our
butts off back here.”

Chris hit Lance in the arm. “Not all of us are working our butts off. It would take years of hard dancing for yours to go away, son.”

“Thanks, jerk!” Lance said as he pushed Chris off the couch.

She then walked back into the dance studio. She heard the guys laughing and saw Chris doing impressions of Lance’s dancing. She just smiled
and shook her head. She knew that when they were happy and joking around like this is when they did their best dancing. JC noticed she had come back in and got up to go talk to her. “So, how bad do they hate me right now?” She asked JC.

He smiled. “It’s been worse. We’re just tired.”

“I know. Really, ya’ll don’t look that bad. It’s just getting in formation.”

JC kissed her on the forehead. “We’ll get it. I promise.”

She smiled at him then yelled, “Time’s up guys!”

Justin whined. “It hasn’t been five minutes yet.”

She shook her head and crossed her arms. “Get your butt up here. The sooner ya’ll get this, the sooner you get to go home.”

Justin shoved JC. “Man, your woman is a slave driver.”

Joey added, “No doubt. You’ve gotta get a nicer girlfriend next time.”

As she walked from the side of the studio to the front mirrors smacked both boys in the back of the head. “That’s Mrs. Slave Driver to you. Now,
ready? Same spot. 5, 6, 7, and 8. 1, 2, push 3, 4, move 5, 6, 7, 8. Better. Again...and this time with music.”

Friends
A Lance Story

As Lindsey walked in the hotel room, she saw Jamie drop her bags and turn the TV on to MTV. Lindsey just shook her head and went to put her
stuff down on a bed. She could hear Carson Daily rambling and looked down at her watch, realizing it was probably time for the number one song.

“Not only do these guys have the number one song today, but they are also ending the second leg of the Pop Odyssey Tour tonight at Madison
Square. Here’s Selfish by NSync.”

Jamie hollered into the bedroom, “They’re number one today!”

“What’d you expect? It’s a great song, a good video, and like a week from retiring.” Lindsey replied as she brushed her hair trying to get rid of
that “just-woke-up-from-a-nap-on-a-plane” look.

Knock knock. “Room service.”

Jamie looked confused since they hadn’t been in long enough to call for anything. Lindsey hollered from the bedroom, “Don’t want any.”

“Um, okay. Candy gram.”

Lindsey walked into the living room smiling. Jamie asked her what she was doing. Lindsey shushed her. “Sorry! Try again.”

“I got it. Sexy man wearing nothing!”

Jamie questioningly looked at Lindsey as she laughed, walked to the door, and opened it. “That’s more like it. Come on in.” Jamie was star
struck as she watched her friend hug Lance Bass. This was the guy that had paid for her and Lindsey to fly from Mississippi to New York and gotten them front row tickets to their concert. She always thought it was too cool that her roommate was best friends with a member of NSync.

“Hey, Lance, this is my roommate Jamie.”

Jamie nervously giggled as she shook his hand. “Thanks for flying us out here.”

Lance smiled. “I figured you two deserved it after another hard year at Mississippi State. So, Lin, how’d the grades turn out?” Lindsey grunted.
Lance then flopped down on the couch next to Jamie. “Did Scott mind me borrowing you this weekend?”

Lindsey shook her head. “Nope. In fact he had a job interview today at Hope High School in Columbus. They have a history/coaching job opening up for next year.”

Jamie interjected. “Show him the ring.”

Lindsey blushed and held her left hand out for Lance to look at. “Wow! He got you a beautiful ring. The wedding’s next summer, right?”

“Yeah, after I graduate. In fact it’s like a year from last Saturday. So, when do we get to see the other guys?”

Jamie gasped. “We get to meet the other guys?”

“Why don’t we go now.” Lance said as he stood up and started waling toward the door. The two girls followed him down the hall to a room that a
lot of laughing was coming from. The door was cracked, so Lance pushed it open and motioned for the girls to come in.  Justin jumped up from the bed when he saw Lindsey and gave her a big hug.

The other guys followed suit. Then Chris noticed Jamie. He walked over to her, put his arm around her, and said, “Hey Lin. Who’s your friend?”

“Guys, this is my roommate, Jamie. Jamie this is Justin, JC, Joey, and the one connected to you is Chris.”

Jamie gave a weak wave, overwhelmed by the guys. Chris walked her over to the couch and asked her to tell everyone about herself. She told them she was from Starkville, a senior accounting major, and a huge fan. Lance, not wanting to let the guys have to opportunity to play twenty questions about how much of a fan Jamie was asked, “If you live in Starkville, why do you live in the dorms with Lindsey?”

“Well,” Jamie explained, “I have a scholarship that pays for the dorms and I didn’t want to stay at my parents.” While she was talking, Chris put
his arm around her. Unconsciously, Jamie snuggled up with him.

Lindsey noticed this and nudged Lance. He just smiled and mouthed, ‘love at first sight.’ Lindsey nodded then gave a look to Jamie.

JC glanced down at his watch and mentioned that they needed to go to sound check. Everyone grumbled not wanting to break up the reunion. JC got up and kissed Lindsey on the forehead. “We’ll see you at the concert.” Lindsey nodded.

“Dude,” Joey said, “you can’t kiss her anymore. Did you see the rock on her hand?”

Lindsey laughed, then hooked her arm in JC’s. “You know you’ll always be my second.”

Justin scoffed. “What about me?”

Lance grabbed Lindsey around the waist. “Guys, I think I get first dibs.”

Joey punched Lance in the arm. “Just because you two have been friends since like birth doesn’t mean a thing.”

Lindsey just shook her head then started to push Lance out the door. “Don’t you guys need to go?”

Justin pointed to Chris and Jamie, who were whispering to each other.

“We will as soon as we get him away from his new girlfriend.”

Jamie realized everyone was looking at her and scooted away from Chris, blushing. They boys walked out the hotel to go to sound check as the
girls went back to their room to start getting ready for dinner and the concert and so Lindsey could call Scott to see how the interview went.   The two girls truly enjoyed themselves at the concert. This was Jamie’s first time to see NSync in concert and she could swear that Chris kept looking at her. Lindsey had been to many of the guys concerts, so she had as much fun watching the guys as she did the crowd, especially Jamie. After
the concert was over, Lonnie escorted the girls to the back. They sat in a living area while the guys got quick showers. The first in the room as Joey. He sat down between the girls then asked, “So, are you two going out with us tonight?”

Jamie nodded. Lindsey patted Joey on the knee. “Ya’ll did a good job tonight.”

“Thanks!”

“So, are Britney and Kelly going to be coming too?”

“Yeah!” Justin said as he and Lance walked in. They were soon followed by JC and Chris. Once everyone was there, they went to Club Mirage up walked straight up to the VIP room. They sat and talked for a while, then Chris asked Jamie to dance. She accepted and they ended up dancing the whole night.

The next day, Lindsey, Lance, and Jamie got on a plane to fly back to Mississippi. Lance had fallen asleep, so Lindsey asked Jamie, “How was
your evening with Chris?”

“That was the best day ever. You know what, he asked for my number.”

“That’s great. You know he doesn’t do that with just anyone. You gave it to him, right?”

Jamie nodded. Just then Lance grunted. “He said he would call. He likes you. Now, shut up!”

The girls laughed, then quieted down when Lance shoved Lindsey and shushed them both.

The Babysitter
A Lance Story

Jennifer put down what she was reading and grabbed the phone sitting next to her. Hello! Fatone residence."

"Hey! Is Joey there?" the voice on the other end asked.

"No he’s not. May I take a message?" Jennifer began to look around for a piece of paper to write on.

"No, no. That’s alright. This is Lance and I was just wondering if I could drop by to pick up something I left there."

"Well, Mr. Bass..." Jennifer began.

Lance interrupted, "Mr. Bass is my father."

"Sorry!" Jennifer laughed. "If you need to come by, I’m sure that they wouldn’t mind. I just Brianna to bed and am just reading. You can come over is you want."

A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Jennifer answered the door and was greeted by a smiling Lance. "Come on in."

"You’re Jennifer, right?" Lance asked as she closed the door behind him.

"Yeah. How do you know who I am?"

"Well," Lance explained as they walked into the living room, "Joey had told me his babysitter’s name before. I expected you to be a teenager though."

"Thanks!" Jennifer scoffed. "No, I work with Kelly and she asked me to watch Bri one night. I fell in love with that little girl and now I baby sit for her anytime Joey and Kelly want to go out."

"Ah."

"So, what did you leave here?" Jennifer asked moving what she was reading off the couch so they could sit down.

Lance pointed to what was in her hand. "That, actually. You were reading it?"

Jennifer looked down at the script. "Yeah! It’s pretty good. Kelly always tells me to make myself at home and I saw this and started to read it. I don’t like to turn the TV on once Bri is in bed." She handed it back to Lance.

"So, what did you think of it?" Lance asked as he placed the script on the coffee table.

"Well, I’m no professional or anything, but it caught my attention in the beginning and kept it up until you rang the doorbell."

Lance chuckled. "Is this one you’re thinking about acting in or just producing?"

"Haven’t decided yet. What do you think?"

Jennifer picked up the script and began to flip through the pages. "Well, I’d have to finish reading it before I could give a knowledgeable answer, and most people would disagree with me, but I could definitely see you as the killer."

"The killer? You don’t find out who the killer is until the end. Did you already figure it out?"

Jennifer blushed and pulled her legs up on the couch. "I always read the last page first. It's a bad habit of mine."

Lance opened his mouth to say something right as a cry came out of the baby monitor on the coffee table. In a flash, Jennifer was off the couch and sprinting up the stairs. Lance got up and followed Jennifer. He walked into Brianna’s room and saw her in Jennifer’s arms falling back to sleep. "Wow!" Lance whispered. "She never quiets down that fast."

Jennifer placed Brianna back in her baby bed and covered her back up. She pushed Lance out of the room and shut the door behind them. "It never takes me long to get her back to sleep."

Lance and Jennifer walked back down the stairs. "Well, you must be a babysitting genius. I can never get her back to sleep that quick."

Jennifer started walking towards the kitchen. "Well, with years of taking care of siblings you learn how. would you like a drink?"

"Sure." Lance replied. "Any Dr. Pepper in there?"

Jennifer nodded and fixed them both a glass. They went back into the living room and sat down. "How many siblings do you have?" Lance asked.

"Three. One older, two younger." Jennifer softly laughed. "I was the only planned one."

"What do you mean?" Lance asked, turning to face Jennifer.

"Well, my older brother was conceived on the wedding night." Jennifer recounted.

"Wow! That’s a wedding gift for you."

"Yeah! They were real excited about that. Then five years later, I came along. My little sister was born when I was ten. Then on my sixteenth birthday, my mom gave birth to my brother, a complete surprise since dad was, well, fixed supposedly. Now he’s seven and I’ve moved away from them all. Taking care of Brianna just fit perfectly into my life."

"When does that leave you time for a personal life?" Lance asked his strategically placed question.

"What personal life? I haven’t had a date since college." Jennifer said shaking her head.

Lance nodded. "I can relate. I haven’t had a girlfriend in over a year."

"Well, that kinda makes sense, as busy as you guys are and all." Jennifer patted Lance’s knee. She then stopped, it dawning on her that she was touching a superstar. She looked up into his eyes as he put his hand on hers.

Lance smiled and said, "Well, I’m not busy right now. Maybe we should go out sometime."

Jennifer smiled realizing that Lance was just a normal guy. She had never gotten star struck around Joey. There was no reason to with this man. She cockily replied, "Maybe."

They continued talking until they heard the front door open. Joey and Kelly walked in and were surprised to see Lance sitting on their couch. "Hey man! What’s up?" Joey asked.

"Just came over to get my script and ended up hanging out with Jennifer." Lance smiled as he untwined his hand from Jennifer’s.

Kelly sighed. "Well, there goes the best babysitter in this town."

Everyone laughed.
