Danny Smith, from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, had been writing and recording songs at home on a 4-Track for years before he landed a leading role on the TV show Big Wolf On Campus. While on hiatus from the show, he recorded demos featuring Lisa Loeb on backing vocals and also found time to record in Memphis at the legendary Sun Studio, home to Elvis and U2. Once Big Wolf's run had come to an end (3 years, 65 episodes), Danny got his Green Card and moved to Los Angeles. Here, he started a band and during their first year together they played shows around Orange County and recorded eight tracks. Chris Fudurich (Finch, Nada Surf, Rx Bandits, Ozma) produced five of those songs, and two compositions featured backing vocals by the amazing Rachel Haden of the now-defunct band That Dog (she also sang on Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" and has worked with Weezer and Beck). During October of 2003, a new incarnation of the band was formed. Drummer Marc Precilla of West Covina, California and bassist Scott Waldman of Lido Beach, Long Island, New York round up the rest of the coast-to-coast line-up. In November of 2003, the band went into the studio to record two new songs "Defeated" and "Saints", again with Fudurich. In March 2004, The City Drive performed on the opening night of the SXSW Festival (South by Southwest Festival) in Austin, Texas, alongside such bands as NOFX, The Thrills, Alkaline Trio, The Von Bondies, Coheed and Cambria, The Hives, Papa Roach and N*E*R*D* . Today, The City Drive is working on new songs and continuing to gain popularity with record labels and fans alike. Stay tuned...
