"Hello?" said a weak voice through the phone, "Jeff? Please man...I don't want to fight you right now. It's not a good time."
"No, J. It's not about that, I...I...wanted to know if you found out anything about Mackenzie? I'm really worried, man." he said while Mackenzie looked away is disgust. She couldn't stand to look at Jeff any longer. She heard Justin reply, "Naw, Jeff. It's...it's pretty bad out here. We thought we found her but....this is all my fault." he said taking a deep breath.
"Yeah, Justin, it is but everyone makes mistakes. Call me if you hear any thing. Ok? Bye." he said all in one breath.
Mackenzie could hear that Justin was about to ask Jeff where he was but he had hung up the phone so quickly that all was forgotten. "Oh that was fun, wasn't it!" Jeff said clapping his hands together in delight. "Hmmm......watch this...it's even more fun." he said pulling out a small device and placing it in front of the mouth of the phone as he dialed a number again.
"What the hell is that?" Mackenzie asked
"Shhhhhh." he said but in a different voice. Realization hit Mackenzie. That was a voice disguiser.
"I love scary movies. They give you the best ideas." he said in a voice that was not his own. "Justin?"
The voice was low and computerized as he spoke into the machine that connected to the small cell phone.
"Hello?" Justin said wearily, "Who is this?"
"I've got something you want." Jeff said again
"What the..." realization hit Justin, "Who the hell is this?"
"She's right here, Justin and she's mine. I won't hurt her like you did." he said
"Mackenzie! Where is she?? Let me talk to her! Look, I'll give you anything you want. ANYTHING and everything. Just...just let her go. Tell me where you are and I'll get there by myself with out telling anyone and let you go free. How much money do you want? I'll give you anything you want." A tear trickled down Mackenzie's face as she heard the defeat in his voice.
Jeff looked at Mackenzie's face and a laugh escaped him as he saw the tear. "I already have what I want."
"Damnit! When I find out who this is, I'm going to kill you! I swear to God I will! Let me talk to her." Justin said, not knowing what else to say
"Hmmm..." Jeff said looking over to Mackenzie as her head shot up when she heard him say these words. "I guess. If you do any funny business, Timbershit, she's dead, right here, right now. Don't think I won't." Jeff carefully handed the phone to Mackenzie and stood next to Sam who was gradually gaining consciousness and pressed the knife only about an inch from her side.
"Ju...Justin?" Mackenzie said her voice weak.
"Kenzie! Where are you? Who is with you?"
"Justin, I love you." Mackenzie said knowing that she couldn't answer his questions. She told herself she wasn't going to cry. She wasn't going to let Jeff win.
"Mackenzie, I'm so sorry about before, baby. I love you too. I'll be there soon, I'll find you. I'll be there." his voice broke several times.
"I know you will, J." She saw Jeff starting to get impatient and she knew that her call would be cut soon. "Think, Justin. Think."
Jeff came over and took the phone from her as Mackenzie screamed, "I love you!" one last time.
"Time is up, Timbershit. I hope you said goodbye." Jeff said with his voice decoder back. He clicked the off and smiled as if he was proud of what he had just done. "That was fun." he said.
Mackenzie was now more determined than ever to get away. If only Sam wasn't there it would have been so much easier. Hearing Justin's voice break the way that it was crushed her heart but made her 20 times stronger all the same. She was going to get out of this.
