Chapter 27
Chapter 27
The next week had been a strange one. All the girls in the house kept teasing Mackenzie about Justin and Jeff fighting over her, but to Kenzie they were being silly. All she knew was that something strange had went on between them and now they were very far from being friends. Today everyone had the day off because Wade was going to be away, so they decided to head down to the beach and be back in time for the party at night.
"Timbershit, getting scared yet?" Jeff said as he passed Justin in the hall.
"Of what? You? Hah!" Justin said moving around him but Jeff stopped him. "Look, Jeff, let's try to make this a semi-fun trip with each other around. Ok?" Justin said trying to call a truce.
"Damn, you're coming? I thought Johnny would try to lock you up here, surely-"
"Shut up, Jeff." Justin said firmly as he walked around him but Jeff stopped him once again.
Jeff held his fists up like he was going to punch Justin and said, "Come on. We could finish this now. Winner gets Kenzie."
"Winner gets Kenzie? She's not a friggin' object. No one gets her." Justin said angrily.
"What are you scared? Come on. Winner gets Kenzie, if you I'll back off."
That did sound good to Justin, but something wasn't right. "Fine. Winner...gets...Kenzie." he said slowly, but just as the words left his mouth Mackenzie came storming through the hallway.
"I can't believe you, Justin!" she said angrily as she stood in front of him. She didn't know what to do. About 50 different emotions were going through her but only one shined through. With out thinking she reached her hand up and slapped him across the face. She noticed the smirk of Jeff's face and did the same thing to him. Justin grabbed his cheek in pain. "Kenzie, you got to listen."
"No, you have to listen. I can't believe you two. Especially you Justin." She said looking at him in a way that showed she felt betrayed. "And you Jeff. What...why? Ever since I entered the music business people told me that I would be treated like an object instead of a person. But never...never in my wildest dreams did I think that it would be the person that means the most to me..." she said turning to Justin holding back tears," and the person who I trust will help my career..." she said facing Jeff. "Do me a favor today guys, leave...me...alone. I was supposed to come to tell you that we are leaving now." she said as she walk away.
"Mackenzie! Wait!" Justin yelled after her while exchanging a dirty look with Jeff, but Mackenzie kept walking away. So Justin ran in front of her and blocked her way by kneeling on the floor. He couldn't stand seeing the look on her face. "Please Mackenzie, let me explain." Justin swore that Mackenzie's mouth twitched in a weak smile and Justin gave her a sympathetic look, but Mackenzie kept walking away.
Justin sighed. He knew that she was mad at him but he also knew that by tonight they would be perfectly back to normal. He was going to make this up to her and make her see why everything happened the way it did. He decided to meet the guys out front. He couldn't wait to see Mackenzie in a bathing suit.
The next few hours had been nothing but relaxing for everyone. It was early afternoon on a weekday which meant that most people where either at work or school. It felt good just to lie on the sand and take in some sun on their pale bodies. Justin knew that Mackenzie was still mad at him for the things he had said and she had a reason to be. He was wrong to say that about her and he for one is a great example of being used as an object. For years people have been treating him like he was a piece of merchandise and just as he started being treated right, he did it to some one else.
Mackenzie was laying on her back when Justin sat next to her and flick sand on her arm. "Please don't." Mackenzie said nonchalantly.
"Please come with me." Justin said
"No." Kenzie said with her eyes still closed.
"Why not?"
"Because I'm still mad at you." she said turning her head the other way.
"I know you are, that's why I want to go for a walk so I can talk to you. Please."
She turned back over to look at him, "Just leave me alone." she said getting up and dusting the sand off of her and putting on her shorts, "I'll be back later guys. Justin stay here. I don't want to talk to you."
Justin watched her begin to walk away but after looking around at the guys, he knew he should follow her. "We'll be back." he said with a slight smirk.
"Those to are made for each other." JC said
Mackenzie sighed when she heard him come along from behind her. "I asked for you to stay." she said with out emotion
"And I asked for you to go for a walk with me." Justin remarked
"Justin...please...just...go." she said as she stopped walking and looked at the sand.
"I can't do that, Mackenzie." Justin said softly standing in front of her. Justin put his hand on her chin and lifted up her head. He was about to say something when Mackenzie but in, "Why not?" she asked and although she shouldn't have, she felt a tingle go through her body when he touched her.
"Because I need to make you see how sorry I am and how much it kills me to see you mad at me." Justin said as he placed his hands into hers.
"Look!" Chris said from where they were sitting about 50 feet away, "They're gonna kiss!" he said as everyone looked at the pair.
This wasn't the time or place Justin wanted for this to happen but he couldn't help it if it did. He leaned his head down a little further.
"Get the camera!" Jenna yelled
"You're going to take a picture?" JC asked
"Why not?" she said turning it on.
Mackenzie knew what was about to happen, she looked into his eyes but something didn't feel right to her. At the last second she let go of his hands and turned her head away as she started to walk again.
"Ohhhh, shut down!" Chris yelled
"That's gotta burn the ego." Joey joked
"Mackenzie!" Justin called as he ran after her. "What...What..." he stammered
"Justin, you can't do that everytime I'm mad at you!"
"What? Do what?"
"Try to work your charm on me. You've done it before and led me on only to just forget about everything that's happened."
"What are you talking about?"
Mackenzie sighed, "Nn..nothing, Justin. Please go." she said walking quicker
"No, not until you tell me what you are talking about." he demanded
"Tell him what I'm talking about..." she thought. How was she supposed to tell him that she was falling in love with him? How was she supposed to say that every time she gets mad at him he trys to charm her to get her to accept his apology and she does because she has the hope that he'll tell her his feelings? How was she supposed to say that she was tried of loving someone who didn't love her in return? At the moment she couldn't think. She could tell him how she felt or she could blow it off and say nothing. Mackenzie thought of all the times she was mad at him and how he made her stop being upset. Each time he used his charm to make her feel as if he shared her feelings. Maybe that's just how he solves his problems, she thought.
"Justin, it's...it's...just..." she looked up into his caring eyes and almost collapsed, "nothing...it's nothing. I'm sorry." she didn't know what to do so she reached her arms up and hugged him close to her.
Justin knew that something was up but he let it pass for the time being, "So am I forgiven?" he asked with a slight smile on his face.
"Yeah." she said, his smile was contagious.
"Umm...I'd hate to interrupt..." Nick said, " but everyone is leaving now. If you want I'll stay with you and tell the guys you decided to stay?" he asked
Justin looked at Mackenzie and smiled at her. She looked so beautiful with her hair blowing in the breeze and her sun-reddened cheeks. "Yeah, Nick, would you stay? I think we are going to keep walking for a little while."
"Sure thing, J." he said as he walked back to the rest of the guys.
Mackenzie smiled up at Justin evilly, "What?" he asked
Before he knew it Mackenzie bent down and splashed cold water all over the front of him. "Hey!" Justin said laughing, "What was that for?" he said as he began to chase her along the shoreline.
Mackenzie laughed as cold water splashed her back and she felt his strong hands reach around her bare waist."Hey! Put me down! she said punching his back with her fists....
And that's how they spent the rest of the day, laughing, swimming, and talking. It was so good for each of them to spend time together alone. In a small way, they were both secretly glad that they didn't kiss. Neither of them were positive about the feelings they had or didn't have for each other and maybe they weren't meant to be in a relationship, yet...
