Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Over the week Mackenzie had never felt so overprotected. Justin was with her ever spare moment he had, but between all the tour rehearsals he maybe saw her once a day form only a few minutes, if that. For him those few extra minutes were becoming the highlight of his day even if he only talked to her on the phone. As the trial date got closer he could see Mackenzie getting more and more nervous and it reminded him of what they went through. She had worked her whole life getting to where she was and now it all could be taken away from her in what seemed like a second, but nothing made Justin happier than knowing that he could calm her nerves.
Mackenzie on the other hand was starting to feel like a caged bird. Although she had been doing radio shows all around Florida she felt as though she was a prisoner. Her security team had gone from one just Jeremy to Jeremy, Sean, and Brian, who had previously been on Nsync's team. It was from them that she learned that no place was safe.
Everywhere she went Jeremy, Sean, or Brian had to go in first to make sure there was nothing inside. Every concert she performed at most of the attendance had to go through metal detectors. Radio personnel were being to comment on this and wonder why such hard standards had to be taken for Mackenzie. This caused rumors to circulate that Mackenzie demanded them or that someone was stalking her. Although some of the rumors were true, no one knew for sure.
Mackenzie's days were long and boring even though they were filled with appearances here and there. Today was the last day she had being bored, though, tomorrow she would start rehearsals for the tour with Nsync. All of her things were moved to Johnny's Compound along with the guys for security measures. There was no place more secure than there and everyone was happy to have Mackenzie, especially Justin. Although he tried to hide his excitement he had been counting the days until her arrival.
Tonight, all the ladies in the house including Mackenzie, Jenna, Chris' girlfriend Danni, Joey's girlfriend Kelly, and Johnny's fianc Terry had offered to cook dinner for the guys. Mackenzie was making sauce over the stove as the guys came into the kitchen.
"I think I died." Joey said smelling the food.
"Because of Wade and Jeff?" Kelly asked as she walked toward him.
"Well, them too. I was talking about the food. It smells so good."
"I haven't had a home cooked meal in....forever." Lance said
Mackenzie noticed that Justin and Wade weren't there and she wondered where they were but wouldn't dare to ask. Jenna picked up, "Where's Justin and Wade?" she asked
"They are working on some choreography, Wade gave us a half hour break." Chris said eating a carrot.
Mackenzie turned to face the stove and almost jumped when she felt hands on her waist. She looked up to see Jeff reaching over her about to taste the sauce.
She quickly reached up and grabbed his arm. "I don't think so." she said as she quickly walked away from his grasp.
Justin entered just in time to see Jeff put his hands around Kenzie and looked as though fire from his eyes could shoot Jeff. His heart jumped when she walked away looking completely disgusted. 'Maybe she's playing hard to get?' he thought, but quickly ruled that out.
"Jeff?" Justin called, "Wade and I need to talk to you."
"We do?" Wade said.
"Yes! Come on."
The two guys followed Justin down the hall for a few seconds before Jeff stopped him.
"Look, Justin, I know what this is about and you have no right pulling me away from her. She's not yours. You can't tell me what to do."
"No, you look, Jeff. She's 18, your 22, doesn't that seem a little bit wrong to you? If you keep this up, I could have you fired."
"You can't do that." Jeff said
"You want to see me?"
"Actually, J, you can't, man." Wade said
"Shut up." Justin said quickly.
"I could take this to Johnny. He'll see that this is interfering with your work and have you fired."
"Just because I can be open about my feelings with some one..."
"Jeff!" Justin said pushing him against the wall.
"Hey! Guys!" Wade said separating them Jeff threw a punch that missed Justin but hit Wade.
"What the hell!" Wade said grabbing his nose to make sure it wasn't bleeding.
"Hey, hey, hey! What is going on here?" Johnny asked as he ran down the hall.
"Little Timbershit is trying to tell me what I can and can't do." Jeff challenged.
But Justin remained silent. He knew if he said anything it would cause only more harm.
"Justin, my office, now!" Johnny said firmly.
"Whoa, man, what do you think you are, a principal?" Justin asked
"Go, Justin. As for you, Jeff, you better cool it because your spot on this tour isn't very secure as of now. I suggest you two stay away from each other."
The walk to Johnny's office was a silent one. Johnny was like a father to Justin and he knew that he was disappointed. Once they got into his office Johnny finally spoke, "It was about Kenzie wasn't it? I didn't think having her here would cause this, we can easily move her to-"
"No!" Justin said sharply. "No, Johnny, don't do that."
"In some way I'm favoring Jeff right now, J."
"What!" Justin said
"He's going after what he wants. He's not making Kenzie wait for him. Maybe you should take some lessons."
"What are you talking about?" Justin asked
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. He has feelings for Kenzie, so do you, don't deny it. Why don't you make yourself realize that you are madly in love with this girl, Justin? All these problems would be solved. Is it because of Cara? I certainly hope not. Imagine how Mackenzie must feel to know that because of some girl she'll never have a chance with you. I don't know what happened between you two; it's none of my business but please tell me you are moving on from her. Not all girls are like that, most of them aren't. There is a girl who is head over heels for you, Justin. In that kitchen, making dinner for you."
"She's not making it for me-"
"Let me finish. She'd do anything for you, Justin and every time she thinks that you may have the same feelings something happens and her whole perspective is changed. Youre torturing her by giving her the hope that you do have feelings, sending the messages, but not following through. Are you following me?"
"Johnny, I respect you but you don't need to lecture me."
"Are you sure? Are you positive because there is a girl out there who does everything for you in hopes that she will make you proud of her."
"Why would she want me to be proud of her?" Justin asked
"Because you can make her feel protected over anything. You can see it in her eyes, man. You're her everything. You're her hero. I want you to go and think about everything that I've said, J.  I hope you take some of it to heart. Now go back, Wade should be choreographing again."
Justin left with out saying another word and Johnny knew that he had made an impact.
'Youre her everything. You're her hero' those words kept going around in his head and he was beginning to think of every time she had called on him. He would do anything to hear her voice and to hear that she needed him. Once again, hopefully, things were going to change. Now all he needed was the right time and place.
