| Chapter 25 For the next three days Mackenzie, Jenna, and Jeremy had been in and out of the New York Police Station more times then they could count. The main suspect had been Mr. Martins simply because of the sayings painted on the walls but he was ruled out when it was discovered that he had been out of town that week. No one knew what to think. Their were no other fingerprints discovered on any area of the apartment which led police to believe that Mackenzie or Jenna did this. For the first time in her life, Mackenzie was glad to be leaving New York. Justin looked at his watched and sighed. There was storm that seemed to be right over the airport, which caused their flight to be delayed. He looked over and saw Mackenzie sleeping with headphones covering her ears. She looked so delicate as she turned her head to the side almost as if she knew Justin was watching her. It was amazing but at the same time worrisome to him that after everything that happened to her she could still hold her self together. He wished he could watch her sleep forever. Just then Mackenzie cell phone rang from her coat pocket as she woke up from her sleep. She yawned and smiled at Justin before she began to talk. Justin watched as her face changed and quickly sat closer to her. "I have both great and bad news for you, Mackenzie." Johnny Wright said through the phone. "Ok..." Mackenzie said hesitantly. "Martins' has filed a lawsuit against you. He's hired a very good lawyer to defend him and this will be tough to win." he said taking a breath. "I need you to understand that if he wins, Jive may be forced to drop you from their label. We are going to fight hard, Kenzie, so I don't want you worrying about this too much. As you know the release date for your album has been pushed back and I'm working on finding you an even better lawyer than he has-" "Johnny, my dad is a lawyer, he has plenty of friends. I know one I could call already. Don't worry about that." Johnny smiled when he heard the confidence in her voice, "That's great, Kenzie." "And for the good news?" she asked "Oh yes, as you know the Nsync tour starts July 3rd in Miami and we want you as our opening act." he said waiting for her reaction. "What? Are you serious?" Mackenzie said in shock. She looked over at Justin who was smiling and she smacked him on the shoulder, "You knew and you didn't tell me!" she yelled "But July 3rd is the day after the trial, which means that there is a chance that you won't be opening. If we loose, you will have no contract to open under and we will have to start back at phase one, if we win-which hopefully we will- you're the main opener for the whole tour. Which means-" "Which means there is a chance that I'm going to do a months worth of rehearsing for nothing." Mackenzie said "Exactly." "I'll take those chances." she said confidently. After a few minutes of playful fighting with the guys over why they didn't tell her she was a possible opener, their flight was called. |
| About an hour later Mackenzie was sitting next to Justin and Lance on the large airplane as she opened her laptop. "Don't you two ever relax and take a break?" Justin asked as he saw Mackenzie and Lance typing away on their laptops. Lance was too enthralled in his work to respond, Mackenzie chuckled quietly and turned to face him. "I'm just about to check my email. I haven't done that in so long." she said as she connected the computer to her cell phone and waited for it to connect. Justin laughed at her and was about to put his headphones on when he saw Mackenzie cover her mouth with on hand. "What? What?" Justin yelled jerking the computer away from her lap. He stared at the screen for a moment before comprehending what he was seeing. "MIKE!" He yelled getting up to stand in the isle. Tears were coming to Mackenzie's eyes, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She had clicked to check her email and scanned to the end where an email that was sent not to long ago waited for her to open it. The address didn't look familiar but the subject had said, "Remember Me?" on it so she figured she'd open it. When she did, words that were written in a red font with a black background. They read, "Remember Me? I didn't think so, bitch. I warned you. But did you listen? The highest security can't keep me away from you. I'll be watching, waiting for the moment.... when you're alone...." The words kept circulating in her head, by this time Mike was on the phone with the detective that had been working with them. Lance, Joey, Jenna, Chris and JC were all sitting around Mackenzie trying to comfort her but it wasn't helping. She thought she had recognized that email address but she couldn't put it all together. It wouldn't matter anyway, the email account had been deleted. Justin pushed his way to her and grabbed her hand in his, "We are gonna find the bastard that did this, Kenz. I promise you." But she didn't answer. An announcement was made throughout the plane that they would be landing soon so everyone had to sit back in their seats. Lance and Justin were still trying to get her to talk to them and to tell her how she was feeling but she was just staring into space. It wasn't until the plane had landed that she looked at Justin and said, "This is real, guys. Someone's trying to kill me." She took a deep breath, "Someone's trying to kill me." she repeated. Mackenzie, Justin said shaking her hand, you need to calm down and listen to me. No one is going to hurt you. Do you hear me? I we wont let that happen. Not a chance in hell. Do you know who sent that to you? he asked trying to get her respond. Nnno she said finally. Her cell phone rang from her purse and Justin grabbed it and was about to answer when Mike took it from his hands. Hello? Oh, Im sorry, Samantha, somethings happened. Shell have tohow did you find out?Nevermind, I dont have time for this. Shell call you back later. He said hanging up the phone. The rest of the day Mackenzie felt like she had no control over her life. People had been calling all day wondering what happened. A heavier security was enforced and Mackenzie was no longer allowed to leave the hotel room she was staying in. She was greatfull but at the same time she felt like a bird stuck in its cage. She never wanted things to turn out this way, maybe her dad was right, and maybe she should have never become a singer. If she would have listened none of this would be happening but then again she would have never of met Nsync and right now they were one of the reasons she woke up each day. She jumped when she heard the door open but relaxed when she saw Chris and Justin coming in with a couple pizzas. Thanks guys. She said as they set it on a table. No problem. How are you? Justin asked sitting next to her on the couch. Im ok, she said half smiling. The door opened again and this time Lance, Joey, and JC entered. Lance was holding a stack of movies while Joey and JC were carrying pillows. Ummwhat are you guys doing? she asked What do you think we are doing? Chris asked, Were having a sleep over! Youve got to be kidding me. Mackenzie said as Joey hit Lance over the head with a pillow knocking down all the movies he was carrying. Nope! they all said simultaneously. It was lucky that they all had the next day off because Mackenzie knew she wouldnt be getting any sleep that night and it wasnt because of the events that happened earlier in the day.
