Chapter Six

The weekend flew by and before anyone knew it, it was Monday morning, the start of another week. JC had called Alexis during that weekend to see how she was. He made sure he waited until Sunday, he still believed in that wait a day after the date before calling again thing. JC went home that evening with a permanent glow, not even the troubles he was having with his brother bothered him then. All he knew was that Alexis had definitely caught his attention and he just wanted more of it, she was unlike anyone he had ever met.

An alarm clock buzzed on the nightstand for the third time and a hand crept from under the covers to slam the snooze button. Two eyes opened slowly to see the time. 11am said a groggy voice. 11am..hospital..Tyler, met mom there to pick him up!!

JC jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom Damn, I was supposed to be there already, why cant I just wake up the first time the alarm goes off?! He said aloud to himself as he scurried around his room trying to get ready. Luckily he remembered to call Mike to meet him there, they werent allowed any where without security.

He was out of the house 10 minutes later heading down the freeway to the hospital. Im never late for anything, and now I have to be late to pick up my brother from the hospital, real nice JC, give him another reason to hate you. JC thought about his words. Another reason to hate you? Well whats his original reason? JC had been thinking about this for a while now and each time he came up empty handed. All he knew was that Tyler had gone out to the store, and thats when he got in the accident. JC didnt know he was missing a big piece to the story that would help him solve the puzzle. His mother never told him that Tyler was at home studying before she sent him out to get stuff for his homecoming. That would explain everything, that would explain Tylers ill feelings towards JC. But JC didnt know this.

Trying to shrug off these thoughts, thinking he will get over it and everything will be back to normal JC sang along with the radio. The DJ from the radio station filled his car as he said: Yep those boys are back in town and it seems as though they will be here for a month or so, heres their latest hit Its Gonna be Me. JC turned down the radio. He was used to hearing their songs on the radio, and now it just seemed a little awkward and strange to be listening to himself sing.

JC pulled into the back of the hospital and put on his hat and sunglasses as he waited in the car for Mike to arrive. He was there within 5 minutes. As they stepped out of the car they heard a loud commotion coming from the front of the hospital. Mike knew what it was, he had seen it as he came in.

Dont tell me that noise is what I think it is. JC said

I think it is. Mike lied; he truly knew it was fans waiting outside the hospital. He had also seen hospital security holding them off and pleading for them to go away, so he thought it was pretty much under control for now.

JCs beeper went off as they entered the building and made their way up to the third floor. He turned the corner and walked into the room There you are sweetie, a little late I might add, but actually I was beeping you to let you know that we arent leaving at the time we had thought. It will be a little later.

JC looked at her like she was crazy. He had just jumped out of bed and ran over here for her to tell him that they werent leaving till later. Great, he thought to himself.

Ok mom, thats fine. He said like the good son that he tried to be. Wheres Tyler? He asked as he looked over her shoulder toward the empty bed.

Therapy, she replied. Thats why we will be leaving later.

JC was glad Tyler was leaving today, he had spent days and hours in this room with his brother. They had talked a little played some cards, but JC noticed he was acting very distant towards him, almost hateful at times. He would act more openly with the rest of his family members.

His mother must have been the happiest of all; she hadnt slept in her own bed for a week. Every moment she had stayed by her youngest childs bedside, no matter how much her family begged and pleaded with her to go home.

JCs cell phone shrilled from his pants pocket; he quickly went to grab it and excused himself from his mother as he stepped to a corner of the room. Hello?

JC, its Johnny here.

Hey Johnny, whats up?

Have you watched MTV this weekend by any chance?

No I havent, why? He asked fully expecting to hear the latest rumor that had popped up about them.

Well they know about Tyler and the fact that hes there. And please tell me hes not actually leaving today.

Damn it, we went a whole week without anything. Yeah we are leaving today. JCs mother turned around to look at her son with a worried expression as he said this.

Do you have security there with you? Johnny asked because he knew that sometimes the guys went out without them.

Yeah I have Mike here with me.

You might need more people then that. Let me talk to Mike for a second.

Sure, JC replied as he walked outside and handed Mike his phone. Mike looked at him like he was crazy but grabbed the phone and put it up to his ear.

What was that all about? JCs mother asked as he walked back into the room.

MTV found out Tyler is here, they broadcasted it, and all that noise I heard as I came in were the fans, a lot more then usual. JC sat down lazily in a chair as he finished his words. I knew it was too good to be true, we went a week without any one knowing anything. I cant even be at the hospital with my bother without the media and fans knowing.

His mother went up to him and began stroking his hair in comfort, something she didnt get to do often for her 24-year-old son. Its ok sweetie, we leave today and everything will be alright. You will get at least a month of the most normal life we can give you.

JC just sighed and sat there staring off into space. You know you have to get Tyler out of the house today, his homecoming party is tonight at 7.

I know. His mother replied as she bent down and gave him a kiss on his head.

Mike walked into the room in a hurry. Heres your phone JC I have to go get more security and block off this area so you wont be disturbed. Please dont leave from here, Ill be right back.

JC nodded his head but promised nothing. He was planning on visiting Alexis since he was here.

As Mike approached the door he turned around, JC just be really careful, cuz I know youre gonna go down to Alexiss office. With that he walked off.

JC had a slight blush on his face as he gave a smile. Oh yes that Dr. Gray. Nice shes a nice girl, a little nosey but nice I guess..

Mom please dont start with that, Im trying to forget that part.

I find it funny that you were rude to her when you first met her, but then apologized and asked her out not even a week later.

Lets just say I forgot how and why I first met her. I still dont like what she did, she had no rightthere was no need. JC said with slight anger in his voice.

But she did, and I talked; but we dont need that type of help, we are perfectly fine. His mother said as Alexiss words from that day rang in her head. Do you think that was the smart thing to do? To ask her out with you guys when you barely know her? Who knows what shes really like or what shes after.

Alexis is different mom I could tell from the moment I met her. Ive learned to tell when a women is interested in only one thing, and thats definitely not her.

I hope youre right son, I really hope youre right.

*******************************************************************

Alexis leaned back in her chair as a patient walked out of her office and back to her room in the hospital. She just finished talking to a very troubled teenager and it just tore her heat to hear her story. She had promised to help this young girl and fully intended on keeping that promise. She rubbed her eyes to stop the tears that were beginning to form.

She took a paper in front of her and began writing something, barely noticing her door creek open just the slightest bit. She moved her head up towards the door to see who could be coming in. The door opened just enough for a body to slip in. The persons head was still outside, looking around making sure everything was safe and no one had seen him. Once he was in he closed the door slowly and quietly, his back still toward the person in the room. As soon as the body had made its way in Alexis immediately recognized who it was. A huge smile came across her face and she propped her elbows up on her desk and leaned her head against them. Then as she saw what he was doing her expression turned to confusion.

JC finally turned around once the door was closed to see Alexiss confused face. He walked in, saying nothing, as if nothing had happened and sat down in a chair in front of her desk. So how are you? He said trying to hide the laughter.

Ok, thanks. She paused for a second. Now can you please tell me why you just walked into my office like a person being chased, hoping no one was following them?

Cuz thats exactly what I was doing. Alexis stared at him blankly not fully understanding what he meant. Her face said the words, why would anyone be following you, that makes no sense.

JC smiled at this and knew he was right in telling his mother and in believing she didnt want him for his status. MTV got a hold of the fact that my brother is in the hospital, they also know we are leaving today, so there are more people here then usual.

Oh, Alexis said as realization hit. She had stopped thinking about the man behind the one in front of her right now. But what about Mike, where is he?

Trying to hold off the crowd and get some more security here.

I see, she said as she removed her elbows from the desk. You said Tylers coming home today?

Yeah he is, we should be leaving soon actually.

Thats great, it will be good for him to go home. Alexis wanted so badly to ask him how his relationship was with his brother, if Tyler was accepting what had happened and stopped blaming JC.

We are having a homecoming party for him tonight, would you like to come? JC asked her.

I dont think thats such a great idea, Im not sure how your mom would take that or if she would even want me there.

I dont care if she doesnt want you there, I want you there. JC said matter of fact.

She gave him a warm smile. I really dont know if I should.

My mom doesnt hate you if thats what you think, she just she just. JC couldnt get the right words out, so Alexis cut in.

Didnt like the fact that I tried to help, yes I know.

Help, yeah thats it. He said sarcastically. We are doing just fine and we were doing just fine, but I thank you for your concern.

Alexis could hear his male pride with each word he said. She could hear the insult he thought she was giving his family be merely trying to help in a difficult situation. She had heard some of the same things from his mother that day. But she had also felt that she had some how gotten through.

JC shook his head. Trying to get the cold look out of his eyes. This will always be a sore spot to talk about.

Alexis just nodded her head in agreement. I guess so. But I must say if it wasnt for that you wouldnt be here right now. She said trying to turn the subject around for the better.

The glow returned to his eyes, remembering how irresistible she had looked to him. Yes, very true. So will you come?

Yeah I guess so, just talk to your mom, let her know I will be there.

Ok Ill do that.

Do you need any help setting up. Im pretty good at the stuff.

JC grinned at her, Sure if you want to. Be at my house by 6 then.

Ok Ill be there.

JC grabbed a piece of paper off of her desk and began writing his address. Well then Ill leave you to do your work now, he said as he made his way to the door. Alexis followed him. He turned around when he reached the door and their eyes locked. Her eyes moved down to his lips, those soft, full lips. Her eyes slowly made their way back up to his blue ones. JC noticed this but then kissed her softly on her cheek, letting his lips linger there for a moment before pulling away. Ill see you tonight then, bye. And with that he walked out the door.

Im so stupid! He said aloud as he quickly walked down the hallways. Why didnt I just kiss her, he thought. She wanted it, but what did I do, kiss her on the cheek. He cursed himself the rest of the way to the room.

When he got there his mother was collecting Tylers things and putting them in a bag.

Oh good, youre back, we are leaving now, we have to go get Tyler on the fourth floor and we are gone. She said as she continued to pick up getting ready for their departure.

Oh mom by the way, I invited Alexis over tonight. JC said remembering her request

Mrs. Chasez looked at her son for a moment then continued with what she was doing. Well it seems like you really like the girl. She sighed. Fine let her come, just tell her to mind her business, and everything will be fine, maybe once I get to know her she trailed off.
