Undying Devotion Chapter 6

Placing a file in the drawer, Erika quickly closed it, and walked over to her desk. Her mind was blank, as she was fighting off any thoughts that entered her mind. She focused intensely on every task she was given at work, lately. Blocking things out seemed to be the easiest way for her to cope. "Hey sweetheart!" Sarah said cheerfully, as she passed by, on her way to her desk.

Sarah knew what had happened, but she knew the best way to help would be not to bring anything up. So she just tried to act normal. Erika knew Sarah was trying to be nice, so she smiled back at her, then went back to work. Before, she'd always hated to be at work, waiting anxiously for the moment she could leave, and rush to see JC. Now, though, she couldn't bear to leave, at the end of the day. She still wanted to see that gorgeous smile, and those blindingly blue eyes, but she dreaded having to talk about her problems. When the clock said 5:30, Erika grudginglygathered her things, and walked to her car. She decided to go to Justin's house. Hoping he'd be home, Erika pulled up in front, and saw his car. As the door opened, she smiled weakly at Justin, who hugged her, and pulled her inside quickly.

"Hey girly." he greeted, and asked if she needed anything.
"No, I'm fine, I just wanted to come visit you." she responded.
Justin knew immediately what the problem was.

"You don't want to go home, do you?" he asked, already knowing what the answer would be.
Right away he regretted ever letting the words escape his lips. "Oh, baby, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to.."
"No, it's not your fault," Erika quickly interrupted, "but you're right.
As the tears cascaded down her cheeks, she felt for the first time, like she wanted to talk.
"It just hurts so much, Justin." she said, dropping her face into her hands.

He felt his own tears start to fall, as he slid an arm around her shoulders. She collapsed into his embrace, grateful that she had such amazing friends. After a few agonizing moments,v Justin spoke. "I know you probably don't want to hear this right now, but you know JC loves you. He would love it if you would talk to him. Even if it's only as much as you told me just now."

The words cut through her like a knife, but Erika knew it was true.
"I know, I'm trying. It's just too hard right now. I love him, it's just...I don't know. I think I'm scared of losing him, and I don't know, it seems like if I let him see how miserable I've been, I WILL lose him. Why would he want to be around this, me crying ALL of the time?!"
Justin was shocked at her answer. Wide-eyed, he told her,
"Because he's SO in love with you, the thought of not spending every waking moment with you would NEVER cross his mind."
