Dreams Don’t Last Forever Chapter 1

Jocie started digging through her dresser trying to get something nice and comfortable to wear. After some time, she decided on a pair of black jean, a pink tank top and a black jacket. She walked toward her dressing table and opened her drawer trying to look for the new lipstick she bought the other day. Before she could found her lipstick, she saw a photo. She held it tightly and walked towards her chair and sat down.

Jocie was her nickname and her full name was Jocelyn-Kate Olsen. She was 21 years old, born in Washington and moved over to Florida 3 years ago. Since she was 5 years old she knew what she want to be when she grew up. She love music a lot, but no! She never wanted to be singer. Instead she wanted to be a songwriter. She started writing music at the age of 9 and whoever had heard it, loved it and that included Josh. Oh, Josh was Joshua Scott Chasez and they have known each since they were kids. They were neighbors and they used to hang out a lot together with her elder brother, Joe-West Olsen. Josh and Joe were classmates in school and also the best buddies.

She looked at the photo she was holding. It was a picture of herself with Joe and Josh on her 10th birthday. Jocie could still remember Josh and Joe bought her a watch, which they saved for months. After more than 11 years, she still had the watch with her. She remember when she was young, many people thought that three of them were siblings. She guessed probably because they had the same brown hair and blue eyes. But she doesn’t think she really look like them. She looked more like her mum and Joe looked more like her dad. However, she does agree that Josh and Joe looked quite alike. So whenever, she saw Josh, it reminded her of Joe. Joe had left them. He died in an accident at the age of 16, which was 10 years ago. It was a hard time for her family as he left them without saying his last words. Joe and Jocie were very close, and she found it difficult to accept the truth that he was gone.

During the time when her whole family was mourning for Joe, Josh was always with them. Jocie almost gave up her dream, which was writing music but she managed to stand up again when Josh told her “Jocie, your brother is up in heaven watching you. He wants to see you becoming the most successful songwriter.”
Upon hearing these, she thought that he was right, she didn’t want to disappoint Joe and everyone in the family. She knew Josh love singing and she even promise him that if he become a singer one day, he will write songs for him. And also from that day onwards, he treated Josh like her big brother.

Jocie stood up and put the photo back in the drawer. She decided not to put any makeup and started brushing her long silky hair.
She grabbed her bag and opened the door.

“Hope, are you already?” She yelled.
Hope Nicole Watson was Jocie’s best friend since they were 15. Just like Jocie, she was from Washington but moved over to Florida with her 3 years ago.
“Okay! Let’s go.” Hope looked at herself in the mirror for the very last time.
“Where are we heading first?” Jocie asked.
“How about the mall over at Street D, I’m sure you can get what you want there.” Hope replied back.
Both of them walked towards the main door and Hope opened it.

Jocie walked towards her car, “Hey, can you drive today? I don’t feel like driving. I’m having stomach cramps.”
“No problem. But why didn’t you tell me you are not feeling well? We can go later.” Hope said.
“No! Lance’s birthday is coming soon. I should have bought the present but I’ve been too busy and I glad I have finally got a day off. So let’s not waste our time,” She said and handed the car key over to Hope.
“Let’s go, we are meeting the guys later at 7.” Jocie reminded and walked towards the door.
“Alright, let’s go!” Hope smiled.
