Crying On The Inside Chapter 18

Michelle saw them look confused and then head toward her car. Justin was prepared for a confrontation. He wasn't afraid. Michelle had come over toward him.

"You go. I can handle them," she whispered desperatly.
"I won't leave you alone. I'm not afraid of these guys," Justin said back to her. He saw the fear in her eyes. He looked at the three guys approaching and quickly changed his story. Maybe he was a bit afraid.
"Just go okay," she said pushing on his chest. "Please." She pleaded with him and he walked slowly away bumping into Joey on his way. Joey looked at him toughly but Justin kept going. JC approached her.
"Who's your new friend?" he asked looking back.
"No one. I just gave him a ride to school," she told him. "That was it. I swear." JC didn't look to easily convinced.
"Okay if you say so," he said. But he turned to Joey and Lance and they exchanged knowing glances which made her worry more.

Michelle walked around school in a daze most of the time. During lunch she sat quietly at the table hardly eating anything. Across the room she saw Justin leave. She got up to follow him.

"Where you going Michelle?" Heather asked. She caught Heather's icy glare which meant she knew.
"Nowhere actually," she said sitting back down.

She was getting really tired of this. It was like she was trapped in this circle with no way out. Something had to give and she needed to cut herself loose from them. She wanted to be with Justin. He understood her more than any of them. He cared about her feelings. He listened to her side of things. But there was nothing either of them could do about it. The bell rang and everyone got up to leave. She passed by Justin in the hall and they exchanged glances. But she had to walk by him.

Michelle walked out of her last class and bumped into Justin.

"I had to talk to you," he said. She looked around hoping not to see any of the others.
"Justin we can't. Not here. I'll come by later," she said walking away. He followed her.
"I love you," he said perhaps a little to loudly.

She turned toward him a little shocked. Looking at him she knew he meant it. Her eyes started to tear up. He walked up close to her. "Be with me. I can treat you right. I can make you happy because I love you for who you are and not what you are. I know I don't know everything about you but I know enough. And this is sudden but I truly mean it. I love you." She started to cry. She wanted to kiss him right then and there but she saw Heather and Brianna approaching.
"Tonight. I'll be there. But I've gotta go," she said walking away. Outside she let out her tears as she walked to her car. She had to find a way to get out.
"You and your friend sure have been talking a lot," Brianna said outside. Michelle had already dried her tears.
"Yeah. He's a nice guy," she said.
"The guys had to go straight to practice. They had a meeting," Heather said.
"So we heard what happened last night," Brianna said.
"About what?" Michelle asked looking up.
"About you and JC almost gettin it on," she said smiling.
"If only his doorbell didn't ring you would have been in the same boat with us," Heather said.
"Yeah I guess so," she said quietly.
"So tell us what happened? Give us details," Brianna asked eagerly.
"There really isn't much to tell. We were almost there and then someone was at the door. We were this close," she said holding her thumb and forfinger not even an inch apart. She figured this would satisfy their sexified minds.
"Oh my god, I can't believe you almost did it. So are you going to go finish?" Brianna asked smiling.
"Maybe..." she said and something popped in her head. She wondered who was at the door. Not that she didn't mind the distraction but he never told her who was there. "I gotta go. See you later." They said bye to each other and she got in her car and drove away.

Later that evening when she was on the way out to go to Justin's house the door the phone rang. It was Heather.

"Did JC tell you what happened?" Heather said breathlessly.
"No. What happened?" Michelle asked. It sounded urgent like something was wrong.
"Lance is in the hospital. I'm so worried. JC just called and I'm on my way there," Heather said and she started to cry.
"Oh my god! What happened to him?" Michelle asked her. Heather started to babble and she couldn't understand what she was saying. "Calm down Heather. I'm sure he's fine. Meet me up there okay."
"Okay," Heather said. Michelle hung up the phone and raced out the door. 'What in the world could have happened to Lance?' she wondered as she sped to the hospital.
