Almost Chapter 1
"Can you scratch my back?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Cause I'm comfortable, and tired, and I wanna sleep."
"So go to sleep."
"I would if you shut up!"
"Well, my back itches!"
"So itch it."
"I can't reach it."
"Would you please shut up? I am really tired."
"I cannot do that, my back freakin' itches."
"Fine, turn over onto your stomach and I'll itch it." He smiled triumphantly at his best friend.
"Ah, thanks Bree."
"Justin, is that better?" She asked after scratching it.
"Yea, I said thanks."
"Then I'm going back to sleep." Bree rolled over to 'her' side of the bed.
Bree and Justin were having one of their weekly sleepovers, at Justin's place this time. They have been best friends since the dawn of 1981, growing up next to each other their entire lives. Now, at the age of 16, they were still inseparable and each knew everything about each other. Bree went to Justin with her problems and Justin to Bree. Whether it was about school, friends, crushes, girlfriends or boyfriends, or family. They could tell each other everything, even they're most personal thoughts and problems. It was the best friendship at their school and last year they were voted 'Best Best Friends' and 'Most Likely to Get Married' Justin and Bree laughed it off because they knew that one would never happen! Bree felt a sudden poke in her side. She turned back around.
"What do you want Justin?"
"I don't feel like sleeping. I'm hyper!"
"Maybe if you didn't have Apple Jacks before we went to bed, you wouldn't be."
"I was hungry, you better not be dissin' the Apple Jacks my friend."
"They are so gross, I don't know how you can stand them!" Justin picked up a pillow and hit Bree in the head.
"Ow! What was that for?" Justin shrugged.
"You messed with the Jacks." He put it simply. Bree giggled and turned so that her and Justin were facing.
"Remember when we were 8..."
"Here we go with the remember when we were crap."
"No seriously! Remember when you didn't want to be my friend when we 8 because you thought that all your guy friends would make fun of you for having a best friend who was a girl?"
"Yea, that was kinda funny."
"Yea, kinda, just I was left best friendless for 2 days."
"You lived."
"I know I did, and my god, those were the best 2 days of my life!"
"You begged!"
"I didn't beg!"
"You did, you came over and begged to play with me."
"No I didn't!" Bree defended herself.
"Yea you did."
"Well whatever, in the end, you couldn't stand 2 days without my presence and you called and apologize."
"Just cause mom made me."
"Sure." Bree said sarcastically. They laid there in a comfortable silence.
"How's Britney?" Bree asked casually, Britney referring to Justin's new girlfriend. Someone Bree didn't like very much. She had tried to convince him out of it but Justin thought that she was beautiful, so he asked her out.
"Shut up Bree."
"What? Did I ask something I wasn't supposed too?"
"Go to sleep if your tired."
"Oh, my dear friend, I'm not tired anymore. You gotta talk now."
"Britney's fine. Thank you."
"Have you realized she has no personality and that she thinks she is a goddess because she is the captain of the cheerleading squad yet?"
"She's hot!" Was his excuse.
"She's pretty, a pretty girl with no personality or future, I would be surprised if she ever graduated. She's about as smart as a piece of driftwood."
"Your unbelievable!" Justin exclaimed softly.
"What's wrong Justin?"
"Your talkin' trash about my girl in front of my face. Would you like it if I talked about JC like that?"
"No I wouldn't, but then again, I know you wouldn't say anything cause he's bigger than you," She glanced downward. "In more ways than one." She said evilly.
"Hey! That was harsh Bree. And how would you even know, you don't do anything with him."
"I do more than you think. Which is a lot more than I can say for you! You didn't even kiss anyone until 7th grade."
"You didn't until 7th grade either. And it was me so blah!" It was true that Justin and Bree had experienced their first kiss with each other, but it was because they felt that before they got a real girlfriend or boyfriend, they would need to practice. And what better way to practice than with each other! It didn't mean anything and when they look back on it, they both get terribly disgusted.
"I know, sorry, and you wouldn't say anything about him cause he is the captain of the Basketball team and you are co-captain. And ya know that he could kick your ass. And, he is your best friend, besides me of course, so I don't think you would say anything."
"Your right I wouldn't. But would you like it if I did?"
"No, I'm hungry."
"So go get food."
"I'm tired."
"So sleep."
"I can't decided which one to do."
"Sleep."
"Ok, night buddy."
"Night."
* * * * * * * * * *
"Justin Timberlake!" Britney exclaimed to her sleeping boyfriend. He jumped up in surprise waking Bree up as well.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"What? Why are you here Britney, on a Saturday? At..." He glanced over to the clock. "At 10:30."
"I wanted to see you, and your mom was saying that you were sleeping, she didn't say who you were sleeping with!" Bree started giggling uncontrollably and Justin shot her a look.
"Driftwood." She mumbled. Justin tossed a pillow in her direction but instead it hit Britney.
"Ow!" Bree started laughing harder. "Why are you sleeping with my boyfriend Bree?" She asked in a serious tone. Bree smiled devilishly knowing she could do some damage.
"Britney! We had a sleepover. Don't you ever have sleepovers?" Justin asked, almost blushing when he realized how stupid it sounded.
"Yea, with my girl friends!"
"Britney, your boyfriend is so good to-" Bree tried to get out. She was cut off by another pillow.
"Shut up Bree! Brit-"
"Brat!" Bree coughed. It was obvious that Bree disliked Britney, a lot.
"Shut up Bree! Britney, its not what it looks like!"
"Why don't you explain it to me Justin."
"Bree is my best friend! We have sleepovers like this all the time. Its not like we do anything. We just hang then we sleep."
"I'm sick of you choosing Breeann-"
"Bree." Justin corrected her, knowing the Bree wan't short for anything.
"Right, Breeann, over me!"
"Britney, are you jealous of her?" He glanced at Bree who was watching trying to hold in her laughter.
"No! I just want more Britney time. Please?" She asked sweetly.
"More Britney time?" It was becoming clear to Justin why Bree disliked her so much. "I give you plenty."
"No you don't, if you can't give me what I want, then I might have to dump you, wouldn't that look bad on your record."
"No," Justin was growing angry. "You are to high maintenance, I don't think I can give you what you want. So, I'm dumping you. Now look who's record is ruined."
"Justin! Are you dumping me?"
"I believe that's what he just did." Bree said jumping in. Britney stood there furious. Bree knew that now was the time for her to totally tick Britney off. She pulled the cover over her head and gave Justin the look to play along.
"Justin! I want some Bree time." She teased and Justin laughed. Britney gathered her stuff to leave.
"Wait until I tell all the cheerleaders about this." Bree got up out of the bed.
"And wait till I tell the basketball team about this." Bree was captain of the girls team that had become State Champions that year. She was one of the best in the whole state of Tennessee. "And the boys basketball team. I mean, you do know that I am dating your passion, the one and only JC. I mean, that's why you went with Justin isn't it? To get to my JC?" She asked angrily. She had known the truth all along but didn't want to hurt his feelings. Britney stared in almost complete awe.
"You 2 are the strangest people on this earth. I'm leaving."
"Why, thank ya, thank ya very much!" Britney stormed out of the room and Bree fell onto the bed into a fit of giggles. Justin was still trying to figure something out.
"Did she really go out with me, to get to JC?" He asked, still confused. Bree suddenly felt sympathetic.
"Yea, I tried to tell you last night, but you seemed to like her so much. I just couldn't bring myself to it."
"You should of, and I guess I don't like her as much as I thought, cause I don't feel that bad about losing her!"
"That's good, she was a bitch."
"Bree, I'm not totally over her."
"Oh, right." Bree started laughing all over again.
