| I Won't Let Him Hurt You Anymore |
(Chrissys POV) Bye Haley, I called, waiting for my three-year-old daughter to come flying down the stairs to kiss me goodbye. Bye mommy, she called, jumping from the last step into my arms. I love you. I love you, too sweetie, I said. Be a good girl for daddy. After giving her and my fiance, Mike, a kiss goodbye, I got into my car and headed for another day of work at the grocery store. Mike and I had been together for six years, and we were raising our daughter, Haley, together. Our wedding date was set for June 18th, which was only three months away. Mike was hurt in an accident at work one year ago, and he was still on workers comp, which was good, because he could stay home with Haley while I worked, trying to support the three of us on seven dollars an hour. (Joeys POV) Okay, I said into the cell phone. I will be over in a minute. I have to drop something off at Chrissys first. Okay, Lance said from the other end of the line. See you in about a half hour then. Bye. Bye, I said, ending our conversation. I continued driving through the busy Orlando streets, on my way to my childhood best friend, Chrissys house. I had to drop off a stuffed animal of Haleys that she had left at my house when she spent the night last Saturday. Hello, I called, letting myself into the house. Is anyone home? I heard Haley screaming from the other room, and figured Mike was in there with her, and they were fooling around. He was probably tickling her. I smiled, and walked towards the living room. Stop, Haley screamed when I walked in. Uncle Joey! Haley, I screamed, dropping the stuffed dog I was holding and rushing over to her. Mike was on the floor with her, shaking her around and smacking her head against the coffee table. Mike, I screamed, jumping on top of him and trying to pry him off the little girl. Stop! I finally got Mike off of Haley, and took her into my arms. She cried on my shoulder. Please stop, she begged, holding onto me as if I was her last lifeline. Please stop, daddy. Its okay baby girl, I said, rocking her back and forth in my arms. Its okay, sweetie, Joey is here now. Get away from my daughter, Mike said. He walked over to me and tried to get the frightened little girl from my arms. No, I said, holding her closer to me. I got up and headed for the door. If I have anything to say about this, you will never touch this little girl again. I took Haley and grabbed her jacket before getting in my car and driving to the grocery store, where Chrissy was at work. (Chrissys POV) Your total comes to $33.51, I said, taking the fifty-dollar bill from the ladys hand. After making change, I bid her a good day, and turned as the door to the store opened. Joey, I asked, running over to him and taking my screaming baby from his arms. What the hell happened? It hurts mommy, Haley cried, holding onto my neck. Make it stop hurting. Please. I promise I will be a good girl. Shhh baby, I said, rubbing her back. Tell mommy what happened. He hurt me, she cried. He hurt me. Joey, I screamed. What did you do to my baby? Joey looked at me shocked. Chrissy! Do you really think I would hurt her like that? I love her as if she were my own daughter! I would never hurt her. You know I would die for her! I love her, Chrissy! Then would you kindly explain to me why she was with you, and not her father? Because, he said, tears welling in his chocolate brown eyes. I went over to give her the dog she left at my house the other night, and Mike was in the living room, beating her. I swear, Chris, I would never hurt her. You mean to tell me, I said. That Mike beat his own daughter? Yes. Chrissy, Mike called, running into the store. Oh thank god! Never let this animal touch Haley again! You should have seen what he was doing to her! What? Joey screamed, staring at Mike in disbelief as he took Haley from my arms and tried to comfort her. Chrissy, he is lying to you! No Joey, I said, taking Haley back from Mikes arms. You are the one who is lying to me. You know Haley means the world to me, and you tried to take her out of my life. I know you dont like Mike, but that doesnt give you any reason to make something like this up. Chrissy please, he begged. Dont believe him. I love you and Haley, and you know I would never do something to hurt either of you. I wish I could say I believe you, I said. But I cant. Im sorry Joey. I dont think we should be friends anymore, either. This time, you went too far. (Justins POV) There you are, I cried, jumping up as Joey walked into the studio. Where have you been? You had us scared to death! Chrissy, he said. HaleyMike. What? JC asked. Joey, what are you saying? Mike beat Haley, and Chrissy thinks it was me. What? Chris asked. Why would she think that? I dont know, I said. But I would never do something like that, I swear! And now Chrissy never wants to talk to me again! Dont worry, Lance said. It will all get worked out soon. |
