SAMHAIN POEMS

    Maiden to Crone

    The spring so calm,
    The shadows deep,
    The road so long,
    The willows weep.
    Silently she walks,
    She's lost her way,
    Lightly she stalks,
    Day after day.

Long ago, or so it seems,
    She knew herself,
    She knew her dreams,
Now they're lost in empty space,
    Nothing left, what a waste.

    Never sleeping,
    Too much time,
    Darkness seeping,
    Through reason and rhyme.

    Losing control,
Of what she used to be,
    Nothing to show,
    For what she's seen.
    The forest around her,
    Her foot upon snow,
    The wind hounds her,
    Nowhere to go.

    Slipping through the trees,
She falls gently to the Earth,
    Lost even to the breeze,
    Moving from death into rebirth.

    Lady Goddess

I am the fate of all who would live
I am the gift that few ever give,
I am a pure and cleansing place,
Yet nightmares depict me with a dark frightening face.

I am the source and the end of it all,
When the time is right you all answer my call,
And come to the dark, mysterious place,
Where finally you see a true, honest face.

Through all of my faces, few recognise,
What they can see with their own two blind eyes.
As the life's cycles turn, for those who will see,
You know who I am, the true, real me.

I have many ways, but to see you must feel,
This land with its love and its power to heal,
The moon in the sky, the earth all around,
My children, you are all, and my love you have found.

    Triple Solstice Goddess
    sung to "Star of Wonder

    Chorus:
Oh, time of wisdom, time of light
    Time of Winter's darkest night
Goddess hold me, Love enfold me
    Open me to Your light

Goddesses of the Solstice are we
Bringers of the Star and the Tree
    Maiden, Mother, Crone uncover
    Winter's deep mystery
Maiden of the darkness, I sing
    Underworlds of wisdom, I bring
    Seeking, learning, Kore returning
    Bearing the light of Spring

    Chorus:
Oh, time of wisdom, time of light
    Time of Winter's darkest night
Goddess hold me, Love enfold me
    Open me to Your light

    Demeter, the slumbering Earth
    Dreaming of the Daughter's rebirth
    Candles lighted, world united
    Knowing our own true worth
Crone of deepest wisdom, I dwell
    Deep in Time's mysterious well
    Dreaming, daring, teaching, sharing
    Hecate's secret spell
This land with its love and power to heal,
The moon in the sky, the earth all around,
My children, you are all, and my love you have found.

    Chorus:
Oh, time of wisdom, time of light
    Time of Winter's darkest night
Goddess hold me, Love enfold me
    Open me to Your light

    Samhain Chant

    Fire red, summer's dead
    Yet it shall return.
Clear and bright, in the night,
    Burn, fire, burn!

    Chorus:
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
    When the year's a-turning.
    Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
    When the fire's burning.

    Fire glow, vision show
    Of the heart's desire,
    When the spell's chanted well
    Of the witching fire.

    Chorus:
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
    When the year's a-turning.
    Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
    When the fire's burning.

Fire spark, when nights are dark
    Makes our winter's mirth.
Red leaves fall, earth takes all,
    Brings them to rebirth.

    Chorus:
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
    When the year's a-turning.
    Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
    When the fire's burning.

    Fire fair, earth and air,
    And the heaven's rain,
All blessed be, and so may we,
    at Hallows-tide again.

    Chorus:
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
    When the year's a-turning.
    Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
    When the fire's burning.

    Twas The Night Before Samhain

'Twas the night before Samhain and all through the house.
Not a creature was stirring except for my spouse.
The incense it burned in his Cauldron so black,
For witchcraft and magic he'd a wondrous knack.
The circle was drawn with the athame of power,
The guardians were called to each quarter tower.
The Lord and the Lady attended our rite,
In wonder and glory and power and might.
The dearly departed came as our guest,
To live once again after their rest.
We bid them goodbye with a tear in our eye,
Such a lovely presence of loved ones so nigh.
The candles danced in the flickering light.
With the Great Rite we bid them all a good night.
The guardians thanked, have all sped away.
The Lord and the Lady, thanks for the day.
The night before Samhain, Gods Bless this house.
A circle of wonder 'round me and my spouse.

    Pumpkin Bright
    sung to "Starlight, Starbright"

    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin bright,
    When the goblins ride tonight,
Guide me with your kindly light,
    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin bright.

    Pumpkin. pumpkin, pumpkin grin,
    Cheshire cat and tiger kin,
    Night without and light within,
    Dancing, dancing, pumpkin grin.

    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin head,
When my "Tricks or Treats" are said,
Will you light me to my bed,
    Kind old father pumpkin head?

    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin pie,
    I'm so sad that I could cry;
    Why dear papa lantern, why
Must you end as pumpkin pie?

    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin bright,
    Autumn lantern in the night;
You'll be back next year all right?
    Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin bright

    I Need No Spell

I need no spell to get me through
    A tangled fence of briars.
I need no spell to help me pass
    A wall of burning fires.

I need no spell to make a dress
Of silk from one of chintz.
I need no spell to turn a frog
    Into a handsome prince.

But if you've got a spell around
    That gets my homework right,
Or one that makes my mother think
I've gone to bed at night,

Or one that takes the garbage out,
Or one that feeds the cat,
    I'd pay you my allowance
If you had a spell like that!

    It's Halloween!

Tonight is the night when dead leaves fly
like witches on switches across the sky.
When elf and sprite flit through the night
    on a moony sheen.

Tonight is the night when leaves make a sound
like a gnome in his home under the ground.
When spooks and trolls creep out of the holes,
    all mossy and green.

Tonight is the night when pumpkins stare
    through sheaves and leaves everywhere.
When ghoul and ghost and goblin host dance round their Queen.
    IT'S HALLOWEEN!!!
